You’ll be pretty close to where I live.

From Tarland there’s a lot of nice non-technical riding up into the surrounding hills on landrover track. You could easily cycle to the trails at Aboyne too.

There’s loads of trail/enduro stuff within a 30/45 minute drive at Ballater, Scoly, Pitfichie, Bennachie and Hill of Fare.

If you’re looking to get into the big hills there’s plenty too. The Lochnagar & Loch Callater loops are good and there’s plenty more if you head up to Braemar and into the Cairngorms proper.

Trailsforks is your friend, it’ll show you the heartbreak ridge loop and lots of other stuff.

Can you fit knee pads under any of these?

I stopped racing any DH 4 years ago and have done a lot of Enduro since. This year I decided I was going to do the full SDA series. Went to the first round at Ae and managed to get 3 runs done in 4.5 hours because the uplift was slow, got fed up and went home.

You just get so much more bike time with Enduro, I could have done the whole SES route in the same time I got 3 runs in at Ae.

Not going to do anymore DH.

She was, she bought Balmoral instead of Ardverikie because of the midges.

Does anyone know which trails were used when the EWS was there?

Also, what’s the capacity of the shuttle bus from Les Brévières?

I ran one on the front for a bit as a replacement for a magic mary since I like the vigilante. Convict was ok but wasn’t as good as the Mary and I’ve gone back.

It’s just tape, the high pressure bit is in the tube.

It’s a 2017. It climbs as well as my Saracen Ariel and the front wanders less when it gets steep. I’ve got the CCDB with the climb switch. It makes a big difference. They were good at answering my emails about the bike before I bought it and while I was waiting for it, felt like I was speaking to someone who really knew what they were talking about. Delivery was a month late though.

Got the Spindrift. Pretty impressed. Was worried it wouldn’t pedal well but is good. Shock doesn’t get any muddier than my shocks have on any other bike thanks to the carbon guard it comes with. It’s a monster downhill.

    What problems on carbon rims?

A carbon fibre bottle cage for £35. Not because it was light but because it was the best colour match!

Glen Dye would be a decent spot.

Not managing to make it this year but it wasn’t that bad.

It was a hell of a lot better than the first year the dunkeld enduro was run and look at what that’s like now.

Don’t go through Glen Banchor, it’s a boggy unrideable mess for quite a bit of it.

We just took our photo driving licences as normal. They didn’t even want to see licences for additonal drivers.

Up via white bridge isn’t the traditional start to the Lairig Ghru though.

I rode up to corrour bothy via derry lodge and accross luibeg bridge and then down to white bridge last year. The path to corrour bothy via the luibeg bridge is rideable most of the way.

The path from white bridge is a nightmare, even going down it was unrideable for large parts.

I took 5.5hrs from Linn of Dee to the old bothy bikes when I did the whole thing a few years ago with it taking 1 hour to get to corrour bothy when I did the corrour loop last year.

From south to north it’s pretty much all rideable until near corrour bothy.

From there its basically 2-3 hours of walking until it becomes rideable again. How far that is will depend on your skill level but it almost certainly won’t be straight away when it starts going downhill.

It was pretty depressing having to push downhill!

Once it is rideable it’s a nice ride down to the bottom.

    I was wrong.

3 turned out to be ok(ish) it was 6 that was the nightmare.

    Still good fun though.

    Pretty good.

Just looking to survive stage 3 and stage 5 is a bit meh.

Apart from that thoroughly enjoyable. Bring on tomorrow.

There’s loads of good stuff at Fort William and last year was good so I’m expecting a good race.

I’ve been over that fishermans bridge. I wouldn’t go that way again, it needed a good bit of heather bashing to reach it on the north side. The bridge itself wasn’t in great nick either. The rest of our route was pretty similar to roverpig’s.

    I’d go for a 19 if I were you. I’m 5’6″ and I’m riding a 17″ 14x.

I’m the same height as you are and I’m riding a 17″ Ariel. I think 15″ would feel very short.

When I was using a GPS watch (Forerunner 110) for riding I kept pressing the buttons with the back of my hand when I took big hits. The battery also didn’t last long enough for longer rides. Moved on to a Edge 510 now.
