    Ok for me..

Hi Smudge, it’ll be on O2.
Have to say I’m now leaning more toward the Bold, mainly as it has the browser functionality and 3G.
Please remember guys that the main reason Im looking at BBs is that I’ll get heavily discounted on the airtime and wont have to stump up £35+ for an iphone tariff.

*if* I could get what theyre offering me for the BB tariff for an iphone I’d almost certainly get one, but as it is I am pretty much forced to the BB option.

Thanks for the on going info though, it’s much appreciated.

    Thanks for the advice,

The main reason I’m thinking of a BB over an iphone is the price of the iphone tariffs. I’d prefer the iphone, BUT! I can get a full BB deal from my current provider with 600 mins, 1000 text, unlimited browsing, push email etc and with my loyalty discount it comes down to £20 a month with all the bolt ons. Hard to refuse!

The Curve 8900 would work out free and the Bold would work out about £50, so you can see my reasoning for considering one.

My original question was if anyone had the Bold or Curve 8900 and could compare between the two. Functionality wise, the Bold wins, but size wise, the Curve/Javelin 8900 wins..

I’ve tried the N98 but hated it, but have not had any experience with the E71.. Be interested to hear more about that.

Sennheiser if you want a bit of quality at that price.

Have Bose Quiet comforts for general use, and mini sennheisers for on the bike etc and theyre great.

Had a set of Sennheiser full size headphones a few years back and they were fantastic, I’m not an audiophile but I do demand a decent sound reproduction.

    Mmm, compelling arguments indeed.
    I’m just not sure!

Have looked again at Black wotsits the new Bold, and a mate has an 8310 and says it’s by far the best unit he’s ever used.

I like what you guys are saying re the iphone, ebay internet banking, sofa/hotel use etc etc, but is it really that good? Can you push std Msn mail to it?

What about the old “it aint as fast as the advert” quotes we get from everyone?

Keep your thoughts coming, they are helping (to confuse) me.
    Cheers

That review is spot on, save for the fact that there is now a 5 mode version available, lo-med-high-flash-sos.

The handle bar mount DX sell is quite good, and at $3 is a brgain. I tried to order a lock block, but unless you order over a tenners worth they stick you for the postage.

    Anyway,

    Everything you need is here.

    You need the torch $37.70 :- http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.12060
    A pair of cells $10.00 :- http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.5790
    Charger $ 8.44 :- http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.6105
    Mains adaptor $ 2.13 :- http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.2709

Infact, rather than shooting the poor dog and it’s pathetic owner, how bout I just shoot Dorset_Knob 😆

I’d have shot the dog, and then shot the owner!

Then, like they do with dog poo, I’d have stuffed them both into little see through sandwich bags and hung them from the nearest tree so eveyone that passes for the next 1000 years can see them ruining the scenery.

But then, maybe that’s just me. 😕

One of the screws in the pill had come out and was rattling round behind the reflector, obviously why it wouldve been switching off I guess..

Funny you should say that Lightman, my second is certainly a little dimmer on every setting that the first one.

As you say, no bad thing as medium is plenty 90% of the time.

Glad you had a good first trip Richyb

    Thanks Lightman,

The one I used on the bars last night was certainly a little rattley.. so I will give it the once over tonight as per..
FYI I use the protected cells, and yes, both mine have the metal cover over the spring in the end cap.

went out with two last night, the new one that had arrived that day mounted on the bars switched off 3 times. I cam back on again but it did switch off.

The one mounted on my helmet worked fine..

Theres a message in that somewhere I think.. 😕

Hey, I’ve just been looking at the a!rbike light sold by 0n 0ne and it is an SSC-P7 in a flash holder with holder for 3 18650 cells.

So that blows the speculation that you can’t expect a normal P7 to stay the course if theyre selling them, bike specific with bar mount.

Is the a!rbike therefore, “just a cheap torch” that should be expected to fail? It is essentially the same product isn’t it?

My want to try a P7 was purely to see what all the fuss was about, that and my 10 year old Stadium is getting a little long in the tooth. Once I’d tried it I was sold. hence my disappointment when it failed.

I’ll be running two tonight, one on the bars, and one on me lid, so look out for the bright glow coming from the Thetford area.

Maybe you’ve been watching the wrong people. 😉

I personally swing both ways 😀

Ok well, as an update, since my P7 went tits up on the 22nd of December, a total number of 15 days have passed (including christmas and new year!).

The replacement has just arrived and paypal have informed me this morning of the refund of my postage costs.

    That, is good service!

I was indeed thinking of something that uses OS or MM TBH.
I do have an Etrex and have had for many years and have never bothered with it on the bike.
I kind of think it’d be nice to have something to physically reference when out riding instead of just the track.
And of course as a training aid.

Cheers for the replies, I was leaning towards somthing like the 305 or the newer colour ones.

42 miles in Thetford yesterday on the SS, and another 17 today over on the Winter Series 3 course in Tunstall.

Both days, fast as mid summer, how totally cool is that.

    I love bikes!

    Hi PK,

Nice name by the way, had a Black PK on blue Tuffs a long time ago, sweet bike….

I had 4 cells at the time and tried all in it that night, none worked.
And then, the next day, it powered up for like 20 seconds and then went out again. I’m guessing it’s a connection/heat issue. Just hope my current one and the replacement don’t go the same way.

I was quite disappointed as all the talk about them was positive.

    Fingers crossed.

I was under the impression you could change it a couple of times, but had like two or three chances before it locked to the last selected region?

But, feel free to shoot me if I’m wrong, I’ve not risked it TBH.

    Thanks Lightman.

I do already have a second on it’s way on the strenght of the first ones performance initially, so will have a spare.

you know what it’s like tho, you jump in and try something different only for it to fail, kinda made me wonder if I shouldve just gone the ay-up route.

I’ll give em a second chance tho.

Theyve agreed to replace it, and pay for me to return it to them.

To be fair, whether it cost £400 or £40 I’d have expected it it to last more than 2hours! I’m hoping mines just a rare failure.
