Lights in my opinion are a must!
Having lived around the world I’ve experienced some very bad attitudes toward cyclists and the last country I lived in you wouldn’t ride in he day without a little red lighthouse flashing from your seat post, let alone at night.
I’d ride at night with off road lights on my helmet there and would have to deliberately dazzle the brain dead 4×4 drivers to even make them mildly aware I was there. It really was bad!

I live in Oz now, Melbourne (and no, I deffinitely don’t ride Beach road with all the cafe hoppers) and nearly all cyclists ride with a bright rear light and sometimes front light even In the day. Hi viz? I’m not a fan an don’t wear it, but equally don’t ride in black kit on road.

It’s our lives and our look out.

I do agree that the points listed are poorly thought out and mostly impractical from a pure cost and implementation point of view. But, if dizzy bitches and drunks are going to continue knocking our finest off there bikes and killing people, something has to be done.

Question, and humor me here. Are all Souls steel?
Rode with a guy today and saw his Soul, said to him, cool, old Skool steel, to which he said, no, it’s ally.
I was confused at it looked like a steel bike, but not being an expert on em didn’t want to comment.

    Thanks guys,
I’ve ridden a few more times now, put about 300km more on it and have concentrated on riding on the drops.
I have to say I’m getting a lot more comfortable. I’m now up to 33kph average over an hour and am also starting to get that feeling of efficiency I was so craving.

I’ll try and get a side on pic so you can see though. Good advice, thank you.

Had it quite a long way forward, certainly past central and have now gone back to central.
I dunno, I just dont feel at home on it.

Regards reach, I have to say I “feel” like it fits ok, but am just uncomfortable all the time.
I also know that when I put my foor down on my MTB that I get a good return of forward motion whereas I dont get that sam esensation with the Allez.

    Wierd I know.

There is mountain biking but it’s an hour away and working 6 days a week with a wife n 2 girls kinda rules out commuting to ride.
I had an sworks hard tail last year as my race bike and ran that with rigid exotics which rode superbly, that’s my thinking behind buying the carbon. Plus the frame and forks would only set me back £600. Far less than a decent road bike and nearly as light..

Oooh, that sounds good, what are the times for that, they happy for anyone to ride or is it a whippets only ride?
I’ve not raced this year and am not in peak condition, I know the terrain up at Rivington though, the big aerial etc.

    Mmm, thats a fair point.

When I looked at the trailer it did look low res and I use a large telly in the garage and will hook the iphone up to it and was worried if it was still going to be a usable picture.
    I am a bit fussy 🙁

My allround bike gets a good go over once a month or when needed otherwise I leave it and just look after the worky parts… My race bike gets stripped and rebuilt completely, everything off, toothbrush and rebuild. mainly due to my ocd about resistance and drag but I guess at least it means shes always in tip top nick..

Appears the stanchions are not that bad but wouldve been without that little strip and clean. How easy was that by the way? two bolts, tap tap, wipe down, wash out, dry, grease, oil, fit, finished.. lovely!

    Thanks for the advice peeps.

Well, it seems like the D2D finished mine off too as the stanchions now have scarring on them! It was awful weather!

I just need to get them through the 2 hours of the last race of my season this weekend and then I can look at replacing. I’ll keep you in mind though, thanks.

Mr P, will say hi, I'll be the bearded bald guy looking slightly tired!

Ok anyway, I'm going to get the Friday evening flight and will come back on the last HR flight Saturday.

What I need now is a bed, sofa, anything for the night….

Anyone? Maybe even a suggestion of a cheapie hotel..

    Thanks

    Hi,

Be interested to know more about the bus, does anyone know if it's running this year.

Dasilva, when are you flying over?

Brant, I'm committed with my job all week and can only get there for the public day. I'm not currently in the industry so can't get there on the trade days. Mores the pity.

Potential job in it mate, needs be n all that jazz… 🙂

I drove 65000 miles for work last year so travelling is 2nd nature, not good though eh.

Alternatively, I can fly to Zurich cheap enough if I can cadge a lift with someone?

    Football,
Hate everything it stands for, the overpaid idiots that play it, the drunken fighters that watch it, the dads that fight over their kids playing it, the money that's spent/wasted on it and the whole ethos around how the country comes to a standstill in the vain hope that we will actually win a competition with the afforementioned overpaid idiots playing solely for the fame and money.

    Brrr, sorry, rant over.

In a similar position myself although I have to say its a pretty entertaining start this year what with the day one pile up, a horrendous second day, Frank S craching out on those amazing cobble sections (more like mountainbiking) and today Cavvy bagging his very doubted win. Lets hope its not the last one eh.

    Roll on the tour!
