With a full-susser, don't you have to account for chain growth? so a tensioner would be needed?

    yep, spring loaded one.

EDIT: unless your rear suspension is a single pivot, around the bb, kona A or BASS stylee.

MaverickBoy – Ask Stu up there, just how dirty my bike was…

I didn't like to mention it

del, sorry to gang up on you, though not ideal the the single wheel chain tensioner is a necessary evil to accomodate chain growth but isn't near as flappy or hanging out the back as a derailleur.

from a financial point you're better off buying, as with most things the complete bike is worth less than the sum of it's parts.

i thought about building a full susser, all items sourced 2nd hand, i budgeted £250 for a frame and £150 for forks, then looked through the classifieds to get an idea of costs for mechs, stems, posts, levers, rotors, bearings, cranks, saddle (new), bars, grips (new), wheels (new – superstar), cables (new), chain (new), tyres (new) and innertubes (new), and whatever else i missed out…. total £987.50. for that sort of money there are loads of complete 2nd bikes to choose from.

like tj said it's been discussed a zillion times but now that you've bought it up….

i had a go on maverickboys yesterday, i was well impressed, only on the road mind so didn't get a proper feel for any extra weight on the back end and didn't want to bounce mboys bike up the kurb. on saying that, i held the wheel on it's own and was surprised at the lack of weight, don't forget it replaces the mech and cassette at the back.

shifter works in reverse (11 speed will be the right way round) and you do have to ease up on pedal pressure to change, on the road this took about 200 metres to get used to, not sure about the dirt but hopefully will find out soon.

gear change is slick and dropping down the gears whilst slowing down or stationary ready for a start from rest is a real plus point that i didn't think would be of any benefit until i used it.

i'm sold on the idea, will be waiting for the 11 speed though as i want the extra range, on saying that crc are knocking 8 speeds out for £150 which sounds a proper bargain.

fair enough but common sense tells you that the cooler it starts the longer it'll stay cooler. anyway, you're on holiday, get off the internet. holiday rule 1; get hot, hit pool.

    billywhizz, i've been thinking about this for a good 45 seconds now and i've come up with two theories;

1: you're on half term from primary school and you've borrowed your moms pc while your xbox loads.

    or

    2: you're trolling.

the hammer-schmidt looks like it can be used with an ebb. got a choice of two chainrings 22 or 24 and 2 gears giving 1:1 and 1:1.6, would that give the range you need. f'cking expensive mind.

however, personally i'd wait until september, get an 11 speed alfine and don't bother using the gears you don't want. of course, when you're absolutily shagged and you've got that 30 mile ride back home, you might just be tempted to click one of those extra gears!

    tracknicko,

didn't the government's 'computers for everyone' (or whatever it was called) get shut down by this kind of n0bhead behaviour.

no, it got "shut down" because the purpose of the scheme had been achieved.

just buy a bike, get it cheap, lovely.

brilliant, why didn't i think of that!

stop trying to be too clever.

clever for you maybe but i'm fine with it ta.

before you ruin it for everyone.

oh right, cos "everyone" is just queing up to buy a new bike!

SO many people trying to get one over the taxman to save a few quid. what's the point?

er, didn't you just answer your own question there… doh!

whilst looking at the c2w rules i noticed that if your commute involves a train journey you are allowed to have two c2w bikes, one for each end of the train ride! these government bods think of everything!

anyway, i've got a better idea

it's all about compromises, it's a well known fact that kitchens and bathrooms sell houses, mainly to women, blokes look at garages, women don't care much for garages. sounds like you're doing all the compromising and are clearly buying the wrong house… my advice, keep looking.
