Oh, and I use PC’s all day but have a sudo mac [hackintosh] at home for.

    Just me? Oh well.
You are a nerd for having a Hackintosh BTW. If you had just gone out and bought an off the shelf Mac because it is just easier, then you wouldn’t be a nerd.

I recall a recent thread where someone pointed out that just repeating the same exact point again and again and again and again was unlikely to convince anyone of anything.

In a startling moment of self-awareness TJ posted a  smiley and said that was a learning point for him.

    Did I imagine that happening?

I ride a K2 Slayblade these days. The base is totally flat, no camber or rocker. It is ace.

Woke up with hangover due to copious wine last night. Hilarious round of golf in pea soup fog. Home. Successful run round the shops in Windsor. Watching planet earth with David Attenborough, whilst browsing STW and looking on auto trader for an audi TT for the wife.

    Nay bad really.

You listened, that’s really all you can do.
Us blokes often make the mistake of thinking we need to take action and try to fix problems for the women we care about, it’s ingrained in us. Mostly just listening is all that is wanted.

Please don’t go steaming in and trying to do something about this, or coerce her into doing anything. You need to be supportive and don’t try to take over the situation.

The fact that you are thinking about how to find out where this guy lives worries me. Nothing that comes from that will be good, even if it may be satisfying (for you, not her) in the short term.

Quite often I write a fairly lengthy reply to something, read through it, decide I don’t want to get involved as it’s more hassle that it’s worth and just delete it all.

Plus 1, completely. I hardly post because of it.
If I did, it would enrich all your lives, so you’re all missing out really. I get to hear my opinions all the time, so it’s no great loss to me.

    ;)

Genuine LOL (well a chuckle at least) at clubber’s friend’s “review” of the forum. It’s absolutely spot on in my opinion.

Build up to it… 40 mins is a lot if you haven’t run at all in years, of course you are in pain.

Take time to recover, then start small, 15 mins then 20mins, 25mins etc… build up to longer distances and durations over a period of time.

When I first got a road bike I found the position very uncomfortable after much less than 100 miles, got a sore neck and shoulders for a few rides til I got used to it. I would not want to take on a big ride like that first time on the bike.

I expect you could manage the distance fitness-wise from what you describe, it would be the comfort on the bike that I would be concerned about.

OP, Find out the going rate locally for rent on a property of that type. Offer to pay your share of that amount and contribute to the bills.
There is no way you can reasonably be expected to pay more than that without getting something (equity…) in return.

I use the drops always on downhills, and on flat into a headwind or the front of a line, and when sprinting. I use the flat section when sitting and spinning up a hill.
The majority of time for me is spent on the hoods or just behind them on the curve of the bar, I wouldn’t be without the other positions though.

I understand your logic Ro5ey, and yes she has “beaten” them. But she wasn’t competing against them as Triathlon remains a sport segregated by gender.
And for good reason – she is an outstanding once in a generation athlete, but against the men she is an also ran, and that wouldn’t be right.

He hasn’t had much to offer on the pitch for a while now, he should be out of the squad for that reason anyway.
The fine seems excessive – was his behaviour any worse than anyone elses? More like he got a lot of headlines because of who he is married to.
    Smacks of scapegoating to me.

The RFU are a right shower, can’t see them sorting themselves out either. It’s a sorry state of affairs.

“Chrissie is ridiculously good, but women and men don’t compete directly in Ironman, there are mens and womens categories. That she is so good that she is faster than most of the male competitors doesn’t change that.”

    Sorry disagree

As is your right. You’ll be wrong though.

    Golf?

    Nope.
Different competitions, different tees, different governing bodies. Different class as well, a few of the very best women over the years have tried to compete with the men and never gotten close to even the journeyman pros, let alone the best.

At an amateur level you can compete with women, but only in specific mixed comps, and you’ll still be playing off different tees.

Triathlon, well more Ironman really or should that be Ironperson.

England’s Chrissie Wellington “chicked” most men at Challenge Roth this year coming in 6th overall, iirc

Chrissie is ridiculously good, but women and men don’t compete directly in Ironman, there are mens and womens categories. That she is so good that she is faster than most of the male competitors doesn’t change that.

Which is worst on the knees?

Skiing has the greater potential for knee injuries, big long skis are a lever to twist your leg if they don’t disengage in a crash. If you have dodgy knees then probably best on a board, as with both feet attached to the same plank there is less chance of this type of injury.

    1) You don’t need to re-point your satellite dish.
    2) Don’t know. Does it have component inputs?

Supplementary unasked question 3) You can use your sky box as a freesat box. My skyHD+ subscription lapsed on 31st October. I have all the freesat HD channels through my sky HD box, without having to change the card.
Recording does not work though (apparently you can pay for this from Sky if you want, tenner a month).
The menu is annoying as it still shows all the Sky channels that I no longer have access to, to tempt me into signing up again.

Threads like this always bring out the worst kind of sneering coffee elitist snob w@nkery.

IMO the Pike Place Roast filter at starbucks is pretty nice usually. I also like their americano better than any other high st chain. I only drink black coffee so don’t know about other types.

It could be because I’m conditioned to it, having a starbucks in our office, or it could be that it is actually quite nice, whatever.

Recently started using a cafetiere to make my own in the office, it’s not as nice, but way cheaper.

Well Alice Roberts (anthropologist, not just tv presenter) said that cooking was one of the major developments that helped humans become the dominant large animal. It releases far more nutrients from food than it destroys.

    This

We might be the only animal that cooks its food but we’re also the only animal who is sitting around having academic discussions on the internet – go figure, as they say.

    And this.

Pretty much sums up what I was going to say on the matter.

Other animals don’t cook their food? So what, we’re better than them.

Seems to me that there are many posters just falling over themselves to be as welcoming as possible.

Never have I seen a forum with so many so keen to jump on and decry any real or trumped-up displays of sexism, racism, homophobia or any other ism you care to mention. It’s also pretty heavily moderated and reported posts are actively dealt with, and bans handed out regularly for those who cross the line.

I’m genuinely curious – what more do you want?

    Bez,

This year on the London to Paris 24hr ride I rode through the night through rural unlit France on the dipped beam (the high beam wouldn’t have lasted all night). It was fine. On one stage I had my teammate and two others whose lights weren’t up to it drafting me so that they could see where they were going, this was through the darkest part of the night from mignight til 3am.

You can’t give it the full beans on downhills – for that you’d want the full beam – but for tanking along the flat and climbs it is sufficient.

My opinion is that a strada on dipped plus a joystick spot on the helmet would be pretty much the ideal combo for night time road riding. Really want to get a joystick myself for winter night rides.

The light lasted just under 8 hours on dipped with occasional full beam sections on the downhills, btw.

    Hope this helps.

    cheers

    Stu.
