“I’ll be able to support them better in the long run”

    Probably true to be honest.

You have also made giant assumptions about how the gf and baby will be supported whilst he is at uni.

Struggling to see what your problem is with this.

I’m an Arsenal fan. He will be missed at Arsenal, anyone who says different has been watching a different team this past year, we have been toothless without him.
Hopefully return the likes of Wilshere, return to form of Ramsay et al, and the new blood coming in can step up. They are big shoes to fill though.

It is true that Arsenal only really got one great season out of him. The only one in which he wasn’t injury hit. I’d say he is a player at his peak, not past it as some are claiming.
If we really got £24M for him then I’d say that is a good bit of business given the inevitability of him leaving. But I’d prefer not to see him lining up against us in the Prem, would have much preferred it if we could have off-loaded him abroad.

I fear a further exodus (Song to Barcelona is being bigged up in the press) and the chances of any kind of championship challenge (what little hoep of that there was!) going out the window, probably along with top 4 status. The club is in decline and it is sad to see.

    I am disappoint.

Still, at least Spurs are more **** than we are. ;)

We just choose our wedding lunch as pork/cabbage/roasts main and couldnt decide the starter. ended up choosing a rocket, tomato and mozzarella salad as we wanted something light

Pretty much what we had at our wedding. Went down a treat.

    It’s not about need

Tell that to my wife… Apparently I don’t “need” 5 bikes either.

Nothing booked yet :( Need to get on the case.

Probably no new gear. The only thing I might consider is some ski boots, as I am finding myself enjoying splitting my time between board and skis.
No new snowboard kit though, oh no, I definitely don’t need anything new, not even bindings. Oh no siree. Or a jacket, definitely don’t need a new one of those.

Darcy, Thanks for responding anyway. The search for someone to do the floors goes on! Any tips or idea what sort of cost per square metre I should be looking at for a refurb?

I have a few recommendations for reliable plumbers now, thanks anyway.

    Good tip!

Bro in law is a sparks and is going to do any electrical work we need in exchange for beer and a place to crash when he parties in Brizzle, so that is about the only tradesman I don’t need to find.

    Cheers

Also, good luck fella. Scariest, most exciting and best thing I ever did was proposing to my missus.

    Exciting times.

Regarding purchasing the ring itself, the biggest piece of advice I could offer would be to avoid the high st chains, such as Ernest Jones.
I did a reasonable amount of research and found that they were offering smaller and lower quality diamonds for the money than you could get at independant jewellers in places such as Hatton Garden.
If you are going custom then you probably won’t be shopping on the high street anyway.
I’d find a jeweller with whom you can choose the best specific stone, based upon your budget, size, clarity, colour requirements and have them make it into a ring for you.

A website I found that has a good feature for viewing their different designs, is http://www.cooldiamonds.com
They have quite a few different designs and you can rotate the images to look at them from different angles, might give you some ideas.

edit: good luck hiding that frame in your sock before the proposal ;)

Secondly, I fully intend to get down on one knee and propose in a place that is right for us, be that public or not.

I think you should go back and read the OP properly before calling people a “pussy”.

    gj78,

That wasn’t really directed at you, just a general comment. Apologies if it came across that way.

I stand by the comment about the stand-in ring. If you choose the ring yourself, she will love it and appreciate the effort.
Why wouldn’t you want to choose it yourself?

Several people on here have recommended Reiss in the past. I went out of my way to check a Reiss store out the other week. Disposable fashion, not for suits.

Well said. They aren’t even 100% wool ffs.
Quite like their casual stuff but the suits are pish, expensive pish.

Anyway, what’s the general “procedure” as it were? I’ve had mates who’ve spent up to £2k on an engagement ring then had to buy a wedding ring as well, which just seems a bit silly.
Are the two rings supposed to match up? My dad proposed to my mum with a fairly nice ring, which matched up to a simpler wedding ring so she wore them together.
After they split up, my mum re-married my now step-dad, who proposed with a similar (albeit, nicer) setup.

    It’s all a bit confusing…

    General procedure is quite simple.
Engagement ring signifies that she is engaged. This is generally the flash ring that has one or more diamonds or other stones in it. Then when you get married she has a simpler (usually plain band) wedding ring that goes on the same finger as the engagement ring, usually worn together so they ideally should match.
Usually the man will have a wedding ring, but no engagement ring.

To the OP, personally I think proposing with a stand-in ring is an enormous cop out and you should MTFU and do it properly.

Down on one knee? Absolutely. As Badger says, if you’re worried about a bit of embarrassment when asking the woman you love to be with you for the rest of your life then you’re not exactly committed, or you are a pussy. Suck it up sweetheart.

Hopefully you will only ever get engaged once. Best do it right eh?

Druidh, just because there is no else to blame it doesn’t mean he was negligent.

    Stuey01

That’ll rather depend on the contract’ T&Cs etc. It’s not unusual for an employee to be responsible for damage caused to company property through negligence

Well it will won’t it. Burden of proof of negligence occurring would be on the company, not on him to prove he wasn’t negligent, though.
I’d like to see them prove negligence for a minor car park bump.
Perhaps if they have a witness who’ll swear he was talking on the phone, eating a bowl of cereal and applying his makeup in the rearview as he handbrake turned into the space.

This is why they have insurance. I would be very very surprised if you are in any way contractually obliged to pay for this. Nor should you be expected to.

Of course, you were using it for company business… weren’t you?

Had an Arione, wanted to like it but after 30-40 miles it started to feel like it was cutting me half slowly, a little more with each bump I rode over. It didn’t get better with time.
Changed it for an Aliante and am much happier with it.

Still got the Arione in a box somewhere, if anybody more slender hipped than me wants to buy it.

The most irritating presenting in all the Olympic coverage is the dappy woman on 5 live, no idea what her name is but I don’t think she has any actual interest in sport. My god she is annoying. Stupid question after stupid question.

Gabby Logan is really good on the highlights prog IMO.
Michael Johnson is, as ever, brilliant as a pundit. I think we are lucky to have him on British TV, I wonder why he doesn’t work for one of the big American sports networks?
Ian Thorpe a big coup for the bbc as well, I thought he was really good on the swimming, knowledgeable, self-deprecating and funny. He’s also genuinely been there and done it.
I’m a balding fan, haven’t always been but a few turns on comedy show like hignfy where she was genuinely funny and I’ve warmed to her. She does her research too.
Colin Jackson is a prat but he’s there as light relief.

Inverdale is good on the rugby and I liked him when be was comforting those rowers and got all choked up himself. He’s not been great on the Olympics but not so bad as to wind me up as he obviously has some of you.

If she is faster than the teammate she is supposed to be helping to speed up, then why can’t she just go for it herself and try to win it herself?
    I don’t understand

Winning in triathlon at that level is all about run speed. Jenkins has the best run and therefore the best chance of winning if she is anywhere near the front group coming off the bike. So the team set up to get her there.

Same in the men’s, there are blokes in the team to do bike domestique duties for the brownlee brothers. The domestiques have focused their training on the swim and bike for this reason. The Brownlees are far and away the best male Olympic distance triathletes in the world, so it is more of a no brainer in the men’s than the women to set up like this. Men’s will probably end up a shoot out between the Brownlees and the Spanish bloke Gomez

Every day is a bit much with the polishing isn’t it freddyg, once every 5 wears or so is plenty surely? To be honest I do it less than that and they still look fine and uppers will last me at least 3 re-soles before looking tatty.

Agree that polishing shoes at all seems to be pretty rare amongst people my age (31) and younger.

I clicked on this thread hoping for comedy gold in the vein of “Erm, so I got in a fight today”.
    I am disappoint.

Your “friends” sound like dicks, if they honestly think that you have somehow wronged them (disrepected them?! what are they? gangsters?), and not the other way around then you are better off without them.

Having said that, the top Korean female archers are pulling something in the region of 40lb. My own recurve is around 41lb @ 28″ and will shoot 70m (Olympic distance) easily, so physical strength isn’t that much of a divider at the top level of archery.

Surely the only relevant comparison is what are the top level male archers in the Olympics pulling?
Comparing a top level female athlete to a jobbing amateur male one doesn’t really tell us very much about top level competition. Unless you are in fact in the Olympics, in which case I apologise for doubting you.
