Er … just take your subscription card out of your box and see!

What a good idea. I will do this tonight.

Nice budget. You’ll have fun spending that.
Bianchi Infinito is supposed to be really nice.

FWIW there is no way I’d be buying a Ribble with that budget.

I think Eurosport is part of the news bundle (weirdly).

Also interested in the answer to this as I don’t think I get value from my full Sky World + HD package.

But if I was, say 1k or so over the threshold, I shouldn’t have been paying anything at 40%. My salary at that employer was never > threshold + allowances. Even if I should have been taxed at 40%, the proportion of my overall income taxed at 40% should have been negligible…

This is prompting me to dig out old payslips and look at in more detail.

Did you even read my post?

This salary plus allowances idea you’ve got in your head is a load of crap.

Schwalbe Ultremo R1s. They are pricey but nooiiice.

If you want puncture protection without them weighing a ton then there are some deals about on Michelin Krylion carbons. CRC has the best price I think. These came in at 261g and 256g on my kitchen scales in the 25mm size. When you consider than most of their competitors are approx 400g and a race tyre is approx 200g for a 23mm then that is impressive.

Everything below the personal allowance is tax free.

Everything between the personal allowance and the higher tax band is taxed at 20%.

Everything above the higher tax band and below the additional tax band (kicks in at £150k) is taxed at 40%.

Everything above the additional tax band is taxed at 50%.

If you’ve been paying 40% on the lot because you were just over the threshold then you’ve been quite seriously diddled.

Breaking news – SBZ has come up with a worse deal.

See, I told you I’d be happy to be wrong.

I humbly refer you to my post of over 2 hours ago:

    Veron, also to United

Worst Prem deal ever = Veron.

Twice. Both United and Chelsea, arguably Chelsea was worse as he had proven himself not up to the premier league.

Andy Carroll is a good player and looks like a hell of a prospect. I just think that is a crazy amount of money for a prospect. Crazy days.

Sorry, bunged in a few other possibles in an edit…

Take your point on Hargreaves. Was he injury prone before he signed?

    Stuey01

    Owen Hargreaves to Man U?

Not that he is a bad player, by any stretch, just he has hardly played due to his appalling injury record.

    Veron, also to united?

    Francis Jeffers to Arsenal?

That bloke that was a cousin of George Weah, signed sight unseen and was utter crap.

They should buy Peter Crouch back. I’m sure ‘arry would be amenable to a deal.

Underrated that bloke, just cos he looks a bit funny.

It’s about the ammount of cable pull. Roadie levers pull less cable. So you can use it but you’ll probably be pulling the lever all the way to the bar.

You can get some sort of cam device to make it work. Can’t remember what is called though.

Jamie, that baseball reference is for wages though, not a transfer fee, so it isn’t comparable.

I would think it would be too small for someone 5’4″

I’m staggered that Newcastle turned down £30m tbh.

Me too, but to be fair, it’ll look like pretty good business if they get £35m.

    is he THAT good?

    No.
He is English though, so you have to pay the over-inflated price for a talented Englishman. Frankly it is no surprise managers bring players in from abroad when they are made to pay over the odds for the equivalent, or worse, English born player.

Well it’s all moot as the dealer has authorised the fix at my garage I’m paying him £100. Happy days.

    Good outcome.
Care to name and praise the dealer for this example of good customer service?

Be careful with ebay, lots of people get excited and overpay for second hand road bikes, but still worth looking at.
Classifieds on here or Bikeradar might be worth a look.

Sorry, to clarify: the clutch is slipping, not badly, if you sit at 2000rpm in 2nd,3rd or 4th and accelerate it will slip a bit before taking up drive. I have stopped driving it since I discovered it, I am worried about making it worse or breaking the DMF.

I think the dealers offer is the minimum I would expect, I do not see why I should have to bear the cost of recovery to him.

Cost of recovery? It’s driveable, so drive it there. Just take it a bit steady on the go pedal.

stuey, sram is more of an unknown than shimano to us both so its lack of knowledge/experience rather than rubbishing it.

The wheels, cassettes, chains are all interchangeable with shimano, so it isn’t as much of a leap as campag. The gear change is a bit more “agricultural” than shimano but the levers are brilliant.
When the time comes I’m gonna try swapping the cassette and chain to shimano ultegra units (bike is sram force equipped), hopefully that’ll give the best of both worlds.

The Allez is supposed to be a fine bike.

FWIW there are some excellent deals about on 2010 Cannondale CAAD8’s, might be worth a look.

Probably a 54cm, but he is borderline.
If he finds it a little small he could always fit a slightly longer stem, some pros ride with up to 14cm stems.

SRAM Rival is better than 105, in my opinion, so wouldn’t consider that a reason to rule out the Boardman.

    With or without pad?
I prefer unpadded tights over padded shorts.

Can’t go wrong with Gore. But as with all things, the fit is king.

    Wind = very noisy.

Fluid is apparently most realistic feeling but you can’t adjust resistance. Fluid plus magnet gives the feel of fluid with adjustability of magnet, but you are unlikely to get one in budget.

I got an elite chrono elastogel fluid one from Wiggle, £140. Not adjustable, but just change gear… it is quiet. When my Mrs is on it I’m happy enough sat in the same room with the TV volume turned up just a couple of notches. For the money I’m happy with it.

Whitelines snowboarding, for the beanie and the money off card that typically pays for the subscription in a couple of summer trips to the snowdome. Never read it though.
Cycling Plus, but have let it lapse because it is the same every month.
Thinking about having a go on 220 Triathlon.

Don’t buy any mountain bike magazines for the same reason I let the cycling plus subscription lapse.

I can understand how the combined weight of wheel and chainset would give a greater flywheel effect then a chainset alone, but to do that the wheel would need to be putting tension on the bottom run of the chain to carry the chainset through its dead spot.
And if that was happening, then surely a freewheel would freewheel briefly at every dead spot and it doesn’t.

it’s got little to do with flywheel effect and more to do with the fact the you are moving forward, with momentum, and your wheel is in contact with the ground. You are moving forward, therefore the wheel must be turning. There is no freewheel so if the wheel is turning the cranks must be turning. It is your own forward momentum that is driving the cranks through the deadspot.

My only other bike, a roadie, needs to be cleaned every time I take it out for a ride as the gears/brakes/cables are all covered in crap and I dread how it would feel/behave next ride.

I very much doubt that it needs to be cleaned every time.
