I just got some Fox Sergeant Shorts and they are ace. On sale at Evans.

    +1

The liner is shite though. I wear them over some gore bibshorts, much better.

mol my friend…. i couldn’t honestly comment on what being drunk normally is, drunk is not a normal state for me! there will be guys reading this who drink more in an afternoon (and not get drunk) than i drink each year.

    *waves*

Sitting in the office tip tapping away at a computer is one of the last places I would want to be drunk. It isn’t really representative of most social drinkers’ experience, so I wouldn’t go making too many judgements based on this little escapade.

Good point Jamie. Conniving so and so.

Molgrips, you’ve just got a bit of a buzz on that’s all. The headache is it wearing off. Nothing to worry about.

    Teetotaller is lightweight shocker…

More embarrassing for the boss who bought a load of champers to celebrate with a bunch of people who aren’t there, i’d say. What a numpty.

Point missed there, I wasn’t talking about subcontracting. I was trying to say that I thought baggage handling was the responsibility ofthe airport and not the airline, if that’s right then it will have a bearing on where the OP should direct his issue.

No, the point wasn’t missed. The contract is between the OP and the airline. Not the OP and the airport services company. The airline has a contract with airport services.

The OP has no relationship with the airport services company. He has to deal with the airline as he paid them to move his goods.

I thought that the baggage handlers worked for the airport services company not the airline. I imagine that you’d be best talking to the airport about this issue and see what they have to say.

The fact that the airline subcontract it to another company is nowt to do with the OP. The airline was paid to transport the goods. OP needs to deal with the airline.

I’ve been flying to Jersey from Gatwick and back every week for the last 5-6 weeks with Flybe and BA.

I am yet to be asked to show anyone any form of ID at any point in the process.

I do carry my passport, just in case.

By this I mean I’ve just been out In farely boggy conditions for two hours and did approx 16 miles. On decent roads what sort of distance could i cover on a Road bike. ?

    Your thoughts please.

Double it. 16mph is an easily achievable average on a road bike. Obviously dependant on amount of climbing, wind conditions, your fitness etc.

I recently got some quotes from specialist Bike insurers. Bikes to value of about £6k. They wanted £700 a year, and had stringent conditions on storage when out of the home.

They are on my contents insurance for pennies extra.

I have mixed experiences with roadie brakes.
On my winter bike the cheap tektro long drop calipers with shite pads are not very good, and scary in the wet. I really need to get around to upgrading the pads. I would love discs on that bike when it is chucking down with rain.
In the dry though, on my good bike, the SRAM force dual pivot calipers with standard pads (made by swissstop for SRAM I think) are really, really powerful. Probably more powerful than the 203mm Hope M4’s on my mountain bike.

I descend on the drops for proper 1 finger braking power.

The only point of 1×10 is that you can have a 36t rear sprocket. If you need it, then go 1×10, if you don’t go 1×9.
I replaced my 11-32t cassette with 11-34t and stuck with 1×9, rather than fork out all that extra dough.

EDIT: if you already have 9sp parts then I’d use them at least til they are knackered.

I got nobbled on this once, had to drive 10miles down the M5 to get to the services. Happy, I was not.

Chiswick is very nice. But very pricey and family-centric.
Depends what you are after and your budget really.

LOL at Tooting Bec, now that is a shithole.

Offer her a seat on the bus…
if she says thank you and sits down, pregnant.
    if she cries, fat.

I’d organise a trip, to a trail centre or something, with a load of mates. None of my friends would want to miss out, even those not into cycling.

    I could care less.

Agreed. It doesn’t make sense. In the context it is used surely it should be “I could not care less”.

I did click the link. I’m genuinely surprised they say the scheme is open to the unemployed. However, it also says subject to status and that you will be credit checked.
Do you have a credit history?
Anyway, just because you could, doesn’t mean you should.

I’d be amazed if they would give a 0% interest finance deal to someone who is unemployed and, I’m guessing from your posts, no credit history.

How can one accurately set them up though? As its not like you can loosen the cleat screws so you can get into position properly, then unclip and tighten them up as the unclipping process moves everything out of alignment…..or am I doing it wrong?

    Trial and error.

    Stuey01

You want to be setting them up so the ball of your foot is roughly over the pedal axle.
Angle will be dependant on personal preference. How much float on those cleats?

Make sure you back off the spring tension til you get used to being clipped in.

It’s not an XC frame. It is a long travel hardtail, borne out by the fact that you have Pikes and a 50mm stem on it.

The Brick, i think you read it wrong:

Normal monthly bills aside like gas/electric/council tax and stuff, we draw out £280 a week.

I read that as other than bills another £280 a week goes out in cash.

This thread is interesting to me. I get married in May, we have a joint account, but at the moment that is just for paying for the wedding. After the wedding it will be for all shared expenses and we’ll each pay in a certain ammount.

Not sure exactly how it is going to work, we both are doing quite well, but she is earning more and has more savings to put into the house we are going to buy.
We currently split everything more or less straight down the middle. We used to work it out to the penny every few months and do a transfer to balance it. But we’ve gotten lazy with that as we’ve become more committed to each other. Now I pay for some bills, her others and we only really split big expenses, this is working OK whilst we rent. I think we will make much more use of the joint account after the wedding and when we buy a house.

What’s the point of having a van if you have to dismantle the bikes or put them in bags to go in? You can do that with a car and not have to drive around in a van.

I want a van, key point for me though is bikes need to go in whole.

The impact can be hard on joints. But running in a straight line is significantly less harmful to your knees than sports where you have to change direction all the time, like squash or 5-a-side football.

A mate who is a keen footballer snapped his ACL and had it rebuilt, he’ll never play football again but is able to run and has recently done a 1/2 marathon at 90+kg with no issues.

So, name one decent Anthony Hopkins performance…

    Instinct
The Worlds Fastest Indian is excellent as well

Anyone who thinks Leonardo DiCaprio can’t act needs to watch The Basketball Diaries, Whats Eating Gilbert Grape and This Boy’s Life and then reconsider. He’s done some shite (Titanic, Romeo and Juliet, The Beach…), but the lad can act.

I tried the King of Shaves one and thought it was terrible.
Went back to the Mach3 that I’ve been using for years. I think Gillete hit the sweetspot with the Mach3 and what has come since is really gimmicky – vibrator razor anyone?

    Nice post peterfile!

    I’m on step 2, so nearly there…

Only THEN will you ever really understand what it is to be a “mountain biker”.

I think that should read: Only THEN will you ever really understand what it is to be a “STWer”.

Even more so if you actually ride your road bike more than your mountain bike – as I, and it seems many more on here, do.

You are looking at high glacial resorts. The available terrain will be severely limited compared to what is there in the winter and most places you can only ski from early morning (icy) to early afternoon (slushfest)

Off the top of my head there is summer skiing at:

    Tignes
    Les Deux Alpes
    Hintertux

Can you not shoot off for a long weekend next winter without the preggers Mrs g? Skiweekends.com do a bus from Victoria Bus Station to Meribel in France, travelling overnight, 2.5 days skiiing and back by Tuesday morning. I did it and journey is a bit of a slog but it was still good and cheap.

So when’s season 2 of the Walking Dead going to be on FX or whatever it was on before?

October or November this year, apparently.

I liked the remake of Dawn of the Dead too.

Resident Evil movies are a guilty pleasure, so bad, yet so good!

    Just picking 3 is tough…

    I’ll go with these:
    Evil Dead 2 – it’s hilarious.

28 Days Later – I know they weren’t really Zombies as such but I think it counts. The deserted London scenes – awesome. And fast, running zombies, I think this was the first to do that?

Zombieland – Watched this recently and really enjoyed it. Woody Harrelson is brilliant, Bill Murray(!), Emma Stone is hawt.

That’s what got me thinking about Zombie movies again, looks amazing, lol

It is amazing. I watched it on FXHD. Highly recommended.

For road I seriously doubt that you will need a chain device, of any kind.
Med cage mech would be fine. Maybe even a short.

    Jesus wept.
Is this a competition to see who can come up with the most controversial selection?

On a thread about actors who can’t act the STW massive have managed to list:

    Al Pacino
    Clint Eastwood
    Leo DiCaprio
    Christopher Walken
    Anthony Hopkins
    Tom Hanks
    Jeff Bridges
    John Malcovich

This place baffles me at times.

    What? Like in East London?

I’ve always thought it would be so much easier if the industry used Joules instead of kWh.

    100% agree.

I suppose they invented kWh for those who don’t know that a 1W = 1J/s
