They’re sposed to look like the fancy pants spesh road shoes so the pros can still look the part (still rock the sponsor’s logo’s…) on the podium without going a over t:

You’ll soon find yourself looking quizzically at your camelbak thinking but “I could put a bottle on my bike and put stuff in my jersey pockets”
Then you’ll remove the peak from your helmet.

    This is how it starts.

It is dangerous going by what the pros use

This is a bit rich coming from a bloke advocating blades for a beginner because you’re using them on recommendation from a Pro.

Hybrids are easier to hit than long irons for the average golfer. By all means keep hacking away at a blade 4iron, I’ll take the reliability and versatility of my hybrid thanks.

Most used clubs in my bag:

    – Putter (obviously)
    – Driver
    – Wedge
    – Hybrid (Go to club for long shots out of short rough, punch shots, 2nd shot on par 5, 200yard par 3s…)

Most other clubs are lucky to come out of the bag more than once a round.

I got some forged mizuno MX23 cavity backs off the bay. £150 and they are excellent.

My advice, bearing in mind you are a beginner:
    – Some starter sets from the likes of Wilson are a good way to get started for about £250 all up (inc bag, putter etc). You can upgrade the driver etc later.

If you don’t want to go that route then:
    – Consider buying second hand, golfers are serial upgraders and there are loads of good second hand clubs going for a song.
    – Buy a modern driver, they are so forgiving these days. 460cc head, titanium, one aimed at mid-high handicappers.
    – Hybrids instead of long irons – much easier. Even pro’s are carrying hybrids these days, there is just no reason not to. YE Yang, major winner, has hybrids down to 5 iron! I carry a 4i hybrid (Cobra Baffler) and love it. Any longer than that and I am hitting 5w or laying up.
    – Buy a proper blade wedge, so much better than the cavity backed sand irons you get with most iron sets. Something like a 56degree, 10 degree bounce with a blade head and steel shaft should do you for an all purpose wedge. You should be able to get one brand new for £50.

Get yourself down debenhams luggage section. Tripp are decent and good value. I’ve got big suitcases, hand luggage sized suitcases and holdalls all from there in use.

Those North Face duffels are silly money, I really wanted one but in the end just got a holdall from Tripp for less than half the price, lighter and bigger with more useful pockets.

The escapist 25 is huge. I use one for commuting, it swallows shoes, laptop, trousers, shirt, towel, pump, tube. wallet, phone etc. I would have thought it would be massively overkill for MTB, ditto the escapist 20.

How much stuff are you carrying about with you?

Bath are playing Exeter Chiefs at home on the Saturday of that weekend. That would be excellent for a stag do if you can get tickets.

Bottom line is it was a forward pass, no-one is disputing that. The correct call was made. The letter of the law means he shouldn’t have ruled it out, but the spirit of the law is upheld…

IMO the problem is with the wording of the law and the initiative shown by the TMO and Ref is a good thing. The law should be reviewed.

Is it the roayls that they come to see, or the buildings/events?

They come for the Royals, they are frigging obsessed with them. All the American tourists I’ve met are well up on the lives of the current Royals, way more than most Brits.

did a tour of Newby(?) hall (the other side of the a24 to Mickelham),Ranmore,Leith,Holmbury,Pitch,Winterfold,Ranmore & Box.

sounds like a big ride. My problem is whilst I know my way around Leith and Holmbury I don’t know how to string it together.

Yeah, you can park at Leith Hill. There is a car park on Leith Hill Road.

I do, when I get out. There are trails on Leith Hill as well, though I prefer Holmbury personally.

    that banky rollercoaster like trail

You must mean either Yoghurt Pots or Barry Knows Best. Does it finish by a tarmac’d road or out onto a wide trail?

How did you break your wrist?

The Grand Palace scam they used on us, some important dignatory had died(king’s sister or something) and it was on the news, they weaved this in to their spiel and I’m ashamed to say we fell for it.
Oh well, we loved ripping around in a Tuk Tuk anyway. We didn’t buy anything from the shops they take you to, but just going through the door is enough for them to get free fuel vouchers.

I would say that a tuktuk ride is a must, they are great fun.

My favourite thing in Bangkok was to go to a muay Thai match, it was incredible, great atmosphere. There are two big stadiums with fights on alternate nights, we went to lumpini stadium. (buy your beer and snacks form the stalls outside, way cheaper than inside and they let you in and out to the stalls with a stamp on your hand.)

The aquarium under the big shopping centre is very impressive, best one I’ve ever been to. Bot different to the authentic Thai stuff listed but very very good.

My post would be almost exactly as per Stuey01’s but with a “not” in it

Fair enough, just goes to show that we’re all different. For me they do just enough to stave off hunger pangs for an hour or so and give an energy boost.

What does your current bike weigh?
What does your current frame weigh?
What does the Orange Alpine 160 frame weigh?

From this you can work it out yourself.

SOX applies to any company listed on the NY Stock Exchange. I work for a UK bank with very limited US operations and we have to have SOX compliance controls on frigging everything. Normally it is just getting sign off that things are not SOX impacting, unless you work in finance or financial reporting in which case it is way more onerous (I don’t, thankfully).
TBF we have integrated the SOX compliance checks into existing project processes and it is not that bad.

We are a long way from efficient in other areas though.

I don’t race, so a different context. I recently rode London to Paris, I found that gels (particularly those with caffiene) were effective at staving off hunger til the next stop where solid food could be taken on.

BB used to annoy me a little because I like the repeats of old Frasier on channel 4 in the morning before work and through the summer the whole channel was taken over by BB.
Now it’s on 5, meh. I just won’t watch it.

Tara Reid used to be hot.

A future management consultant I’ll bet.

    Uni is great, have fun.
But make sure you do enough enough work to get a decent degree. Nothing sadder than spending 3-4years of your life to get a third or worse an unclassified “pass”. Happened to some guys I know.

The word accident implies that the driver is somehow not to blame.

    No it doesn’t.

A road collision is called a collision not because accident implies no fault, but because accident implies it was not intentional.
A non-intentional collision is an accident, whether there is fault or not.

Driving a car is the equivalent of carrying a loaded gun.

    No, it isn’t.

Best wishes with this guy and his family. And I hope they throw the book at the perpetrator, hit and run is a shitty thing to do.
