Bazookajoe, thats the name i want for my first dog. Just need to stop working so much and get one.

Friends mum got home one day to find the scouts tuck shop stock had been raided. Turned to the dog and asked “Elsa, what have you done ?”

Elsa the Lab promptly regurgitates 200 white chocolate mice !

    Lovely.

Neighbour chaps on the door at 11pm last night pleading for help to assemble his sons bike ( he was too merry and is useless at mechanical stuff anyway).

Spent the next hour trying to get the POS together and running smoothly. I failed !

Buckled plastic wheels straight out the box. Brakes with more flex than a rubber band. Was amazed the forks were on the right way round.

How it can meet british standards i do not know. Unsafe at any speed !

Got 4 brand new Yokohamas once for £22.00 !

Only noticed when i got the visa bill in. The guy in the fitters missed a 0 out.

    Nice one.

Well till karma got me back when i discovered they were utterly lethal in damp or wet conditions.

Friends live right next to a mini sub station. As in through the wall of their extension.

They have just split up and every time it is windy their ridge tiles fall off !

What more proof do you need ?

What a load of overblown mince that was today.

Schools shut and i got sent home at lunchtime (oh what a shame).

But really ! Ok it was well windy but you would have though it was the coming of the horsemen of the apocalypse.

One colleague said she hoped that if it came to it she would rather die than her husband.

    Catch a flaming grip people.

Over-cautious nanny state wrap everyone in cotton wool and avoid litigation nonsense.

Thats the windfarm just up from West Kilbride. Would have got a good view of it from the Dalry Moor road.

And a brilliant tail wind up the climb !

Slight technical hitch with feathering the blades perhaps ?

Liked one bit in the “making of” segment.

The actor is describing how Ridley Scott wanted him to run down a street with explosions going off all around him.

Ridley said ” Try and look scared”

The actor said “Try ?, i was absolutely shitting myself !”

Done Lui a few times. 1st time in heavy cloud with deep snow.

Moment not to forget as we crested the summit ridge to find we had poked our heads out the top of the clouds ! Really made the day.

Did Lui, Oss and Dubh Craig in another day. Lucked out by getting a lift on the way in from one of the gold miners (honest). Long walk even so.

Never done it with such pleasant company though !

Road bike this morning to the south of Glasgow.

Got peeped at by a motorist for riding on the road instead of the A77 bike route. The divvy had obviously not noticed it had a coating of ice !

    1st blizzard at Kilmaurs, Lovely.

8 miles of snow covered road after Stewarton followed by another wet blizzard. All dealt with on 23c tyres.

Max temp of 3c and did have cold toes and legs when i got home.

But i did get out !!

It’s the Finnish co-drivers uttering a phrase that sounds like a term for “oral sex” that amuses me.

I service for a mate with a tarmac spec MKII. Though power steering and a 6 speed sequential box has moved things on a bit from the 80’s.

Knew a chap with a supercharged 6R4. Difficult to improve on the original noise though.

Got three in a big two level hutch out back.

Having Three does mean they curl up together which helps them in cold weather.

I put clear acrylic sheet over parts of the mesh to keep the rain and wind off them in winter and also foam camping mat and a tarp over the top half if its below zero. This makes a big difference, their water does not freeze with this until about -5.

A very good idea is to line the whole of the sleeping area in 25mm (or more) polystyrene foam with plywood over it. With even one rabbit in it it heats up very well. We had down to -10 last winter with no problems.

If the rabbits ears are cold to the touch, the rabbit is cold ! But resist the temptation to bring it into a nice warm house at this point as the tempreture variation is too much for them to handle. Just give them some food and plenty of bedding hay.

Surprised to get out this morning after a wild night just to the south of Glasgow. This included being outside in my wellies at 1am trying to shift 5 inches of water from the front of my house after a biblical downpour. Blocked drain shovelled clear.

35 road miles this morning in rather cool conditions. Beggar of a head wind for the last few miles but by some miracle it stayed dry the whole way.

    Glad i made the effort.

Think you might have snow there in the morning !

The roads over there are terrible. Was over the Tak, Top o the world and Crow a few weeks ago on the road bike. The stretch past the Clachan is like a special stage.

Couple of years ago i went from Hayes Sole single pots on 160 discs to Hayes nine’s on 180 discs.

Changed over because the sole’s were feeling unreliable at stopping 16 stone of me.

The nine set up made a huge difference. Probably partly due to the two pot design but i think mainly due to the 180 discs.

The 180s just stopped the bike. No fuss and no fade on any of the Stanes.

Do wish i had gone for Formulas in the same size. The Hayes do seem less muck resistant in the long run. Sticky pistons etc.

Have read the usual suspects, Pantani, Millar, Simpson, Kimmage, Armstrong, Obree and Beaumont.

For a more gentle read, the books by Edward Enfield of his slow tours in Europe are actually very good. Find myself using google images to see where he rode.

47 or so happens quite regularly where i cycle but it is hilly around my area.

Did hit 50 once on my Tourer coming down the Crow road on the Campsie Fells with a tailwind and the front end shimmying all over the shop !

    Bit buttock clenching.

Much more stable on my current bike at that speed.

Can recommend the road from Dunoon to Loch Striven for high speed thrills. Though the front end coming off the ground over some crests is a bit interesting !

Just in from a road 50. Two cereal bars and a banana. Feel slightly tired and a bit hungry.

Not tried gel yet, cant really say it appeals to me. I mean, i’m not trying to win anything, even in sportives i just like taking part.

Did a 165 mile ride, as part of a 12 hour audax, many moons ago with not a clue about nutrition. Memories of raiding the spare food box at the halfway halt (in Crianlarich Youth Hostel) and stuffing biscuits down my throat at the Johnstone wheelers clubhouse knowing i still had 20 miles to ride home. Was too exhausted to notice when i bonked but i did make it home.

    Know nowadays to eat regularly.

Doubt they were more than 200ft up. Totally made my day.

Why not go for triple glazing if you can afford it ?

If it’s like last year you will need it.

CR Smith (UPVC double) fitted to my house in East Renfrewshire and its now 19 years old with only some door seals shrinking a wee bit.

Was up in a pals attic tonight and noticed the same thing as Druidh mentioned.
The attic was recently reinsulated and has the certificate pinned to a rafter. But…..the downlighters have no covers/boxes whatsoever.
Know from the “Holmes on Homes” programme (Canadian) that a cover should be used.
Any suggestions for a UK supplier ?

Couple of mates have had them. It will carry a cubic meter of concrete in the back. Which stops the bleeding thing bouncing !

Terrible for towing caravans. Even loaded up its still fidgety.

Rear suspension leafs break even without heavy loads.

The ltd edition Animal comes with lovely leather seats. And they are as uncomfortable as hell. You sit on them, not in them.

Buy a Legacy estate instead. Though they do snap cranks (diesel) and it’s 20k to repair !

Interested to note on the Energy Savings Trust site says NOT to use cavity wall insulation if the wall is subject to driving rain.

Personally my main walls (mid terrace) are parallel to the prevailing wind. Next door, both sides, have had CWI done but i am waiting a couple of years to see how they get on dampness wise. We do live high up and in an exposed area.

Other local friends have had it done but the severe winters over the last two years make it difficult to judge any savings. It is very cheap to have installed though.

JonEdwards, if you cant get 10mm internal diameter pipe insulation cheap, you could just buy the 15mm and trim it lengthwise. Tiewraps will close the gap or contact adhesive ? Realistically it’s not going to be much of a problem to just use the 15mm as is. Especially if you insulate the cavity/joist gap it’s in anyway.

Every climbing scene with Stallone in Cliffhanger.

Oh hang on, it’s accents not ascents. Oops.

Still applies though, especially John Lithgow’s accent. And i normally like him.
