You could just use your sfn and sell the head doctor which comes with your headset.

Steerer touches the crown race and the collet, not the bearings. And headtubes dont fill with water as much as BB shells.

About £6 for deore and £13 for XT and £16 for xtr from rosebikes.

    Superstar cups take standard bearings.

Not a fan of the enduroforkseals design without the tophats. Seized bearing=scored axle=new cranks

If it is damaged just drive it down deeper, fit another and forget about it. Its a steel pike so you aren’t weight concious! Head Doctors etc are a solution looking for a problem IMO.

I have a dirtworker, a mate has the crc/brand x version. The jet is slightly stronger on the crc/brand x.

Mud tyres just are slow compared to summer tyres. Get used to it!

If I was looking for a cheap DH bike I would probably buy that. Even if you hate it you’ll get most of the money back selling it in bits.

Evidence suggests between 1-10% will get some sort of minor adverse effect.

I had one. A pike was ideal, 120-140mm.

I tried it with Marzocchi AM and 36 TALAS and they were too long.

Get the boots that fit you best. Nothing else matters.

    Goggles need trying on.

You want some brand names? Burton, Westbeach, Foursquare, Special Blend, Analog, Vans, Forum, Salomon, Da Kine, Volcom, Bonfire.

I don’t think any brand is superior across the range. Pick stuff you like the look of and which fits you.

Dirtschool are excellent, I went twice. Once at GT, once at Innerleithen.

You won’t need an insulated jacket. Presumably you are a noob. Falling over and getting up and all the walking and scooting is hot work.

You must have some base layers already from riding.

Mitts last longer than gloves and are warmer. You are unlikely to need the extra warmth in Europe.

Good trousers are a great investment, you will spend a lot of time on your ass.

Don’t forget goggles. Pricey ones have an anti fog coating on the inside. You don’t want to be rubbing at it. Goggles on and off all the time is a classic mistake you will get snow inside and then wreck your lens rubbing at it when it is wet.

Get yourself down to tkmaxx and find some cheap gear. It isn’t the best time of year to buy cheap snowboarding gear.

If you are going to pay rrp (as in the above link) you would be better off finding your local shop and going in and looking/talking/trying things on. You will get a deal if you buy a whole load of kit.

eVent has significant durability issues imo. I’ve had two event jackets and they both suffered from wear and water coming in the shoulders from bag strap abrasion and also the sides of the sleeves from scuffing bushes and trees.

A mate I ride with has a bender fender, I have a neoguard and a crudcatcher. He gets less mud in the face than I do and less mud round the fork seals. Same frame and forks too.

You may be surprised, a new swing arm for my anthem was around £100. Cheaper than i thought it would be.

Hopefully Giant will sell you a single linkage rather than the full set.

Sure you can’t bodge it with some bearing retaining compound?

What’s this elite membership all about? Yet another revenue stream, or something useful?

Have you “upgraded” to a non shimano skewer?

Or maybe dismantled the deore hub and left something out reducing its width?

This thread is stupid. As was the smoking in rented house thread. And the slightly worn cranks thread.

I suppose you will whinge about this post too.

I’m going to take a break from COD, just installed BF3. I seem to be dying rather a lot! Looks pretty good so far.

My 36 vans and talas have significantly outlasted my coil lyriks with similar servicing and use.

Would like a go on some BOS forks.

Helmets are made in the US iirc. D2 is a lovely thing and worth the money.

Sprint and Moto shorts are pretty good quality. I had some xc shorts and the stitching was poor.

Its a premium brand so will always be expensive.

if something is not “As Described” you have a course of redress. Questioning of a seller will give you much more than a picture, both in legal terms and in evaluating the seller.

How can a photograph of an assembled fork tell you what condition the bushings are in ore if the damping works. Or if bearings are ok etc etc.

Faults can easily be hidden in photos.

People who ask for pics frequently don’t buy.

It was a 2nd hand frame wasn’t it? If so think yourself lucky you got a free rear end and only had to pay postage.

I tried not using the TALAS last time at Golspie. I can manage without it, nae bother.

I’d put a spring in rather than convert to floats if you don’t need travel adjust.

presumably you have already googled the name and discovered PD Malloch is still trading as a shop in Perth, although it is a trading name of another firm now.

    http://www.pdmalloch.com/

And they are probably worth something.

The problem with a super soft rubber sole is they don’t last very long.

I’ve had 4 pairs of impacts, they all have had a rubbish cardboard midsole which falls apart after getting wet. 5:10 or marzocchi branded.

Sticky soles are a short cut to confidence but not competency.

    Spitfires don’t have any cardboard.
