Pretty straightforward if you have the correct tools.

    Quality set of Allen keys
    BB spanner
    Headset press
    Cable cutters
    Cassette lockring tool
Decent hacksaw for cutting steerer tube
Torque wrench handy but not essential (good for peace of mind with carbon bits)

I’ve been through 400 sets of SS pads in the last week.

They’ve all been great and lasted ages.

Poor game, but an enthralling shoot-out.

Lots of superb penalties – I feel sorry for Dundeh Utd.

Here’s a good example of mis-calibration – I probably started moving before the GPS was ready so it didn’t get a proper initial fix on altitude. The ride starts and finishes at the same point, though it goes from being 324 feet below sea level to 204 feet above by the time I return home.

At some point during the ride it manages to calibrate itself, but I’m not sure I could pinpoint exactly where…

This is from a Garmin Edge 305 which seems to use satellites to auto-calibrate and the barometric altimeter thereafter to track changes in height.

If you want a 24mm equivalent, divide by the camera’s crop factor.

D80 has a DX format sensor with a crop factor of 1.5.

    24 / 1.5 = 16

So you need a 16mm lens to give you a 24mm “35mm film SLR” equivalent FOV

    Loris,

thanks for link to Motion Based. Pretty cool site.

It would appear that the altimeter on my Edge 305 can’t be relied on. This ride has me 180 feet below sea level at one point.

I’ve noticed it misbehaving a bit recently. Most of the time it seems correct but sometimes it’s WAY out – reading in m what I would expect to see in ft, even though the units are set properly.

    Anyone else noticed this?

“…my concerns lie with those who have to try and get others out of trouble…”

They’re volunteers, Fred, if it’s the MRTs you’re referring to. If I were you I’d just give up on this thread because you fundamentally misunderstand what you’re talking about.

I’m having the same thoughts for the Transalp.

Options are Kinesis Maxlight XC Pro 2 or Titus Racer X.

I’d like to have each built up as light as possible, though the Kinesis is looking pretty reliable as it stands, even if it’s not as light as it could be.

Eating – pizza and salad about to arrive on the table.

Drinking – Californian Cab. Sauv. which I was convinced was a Rioja…

Listening – Lenny Cohen, "The Partisan"

Watching – should fit in 3 episodes of The Wire, season 2 later on. Sorted!

    Live results are here.

I had to pull out because my partner had work commitments and it was too late to get anyone to commit to taking his place. Was ambivalent about it until today…

I was stopped on the way back from a football match last month (Celtic v Villareal) at the roundabout by the new Kincardine Bridge. Similar circumstances – after 11pm, quiet roads. Difference was there were two patrol cars and they seemed to be flagging down every second vehicle. They asked my name and address and checked the car out (holding a torch in the prescribed cop manner, like the way Norman Bates would wield a knife). I asked why they’d stopped me and was met with the stock, stoney-faced response “Routine check”.

Parting words from them were “You might want to clean your number plates”

Mine would be that Titus FTM.

Ridden a Motolite for the last three years and it has been my perfect bike. I’ve also got a Racer X frame waiting to be built up. The FTM looks stunning, and I wouldn’t mind an El Guapo as well just to complete the stable.

    However, it’s a new kitchen for me…

“I got 3 full suss bikes, 1 spare wheel, 3 suitcases / big bags, 1 tent, toolbox, enough gear for 3 people for 2 weeks, spare tyres, food, 1 passenger and 6 cases of wine in the back of my golf with the seats down. “

Two bikes will go into the back of a Seat Leon (same size of car). Fold the seats forward but leave the seat backs in position, remove wheels and slot it all in, seats down and bikes top to tail. The wheels wedge everything in place so nothing rattles. Cover the seat backs with an old sheet and hoover the accumulated dried mud out occasionally – perfect!

Leave the boot free for other kit.

Just finished The Damned United by David Peace. A fictionalised account of Brian Clough’s 44 days as manager of Leeds FC. Very good – I think even non-footy fans would enjoy it.

    Ton,

I’ll mail you an idea I’m working on – based around Mallaig/Knoydart but taking in lots of other stuff over 4/5 days.

Not sure how feasible it is…
