My first foray into modding.  Two schoolboy errors – bought wrong sized bezel insert and “trimmed” the stem too far. Now impatiently awaiting replacements.

    Marloe Coniston Auto “Trackday”

Design cues from Gulf racing livery.

Marloe are a small brand with their HQ in Kinross (a short bike ride from where I live).

Basic movement calibre (Miyota/Citizen 8N24) but lovely to look at.

Not posted in a while but lurking in this thread periodically.

Not sure if these count as they’re not hillwalking as such…

Lots of good advice – cheers all.

The lanes you mention, TomB, look like a good way to stay off the A66. I hadn’t noticed them until I zoomed right in.

Whinlatter and Honister look like the meat of my route.

Ok guys. Thanks for suggestions so far.

I’ll plot them out on ridewithgps and see how they look.

    Any roads to be avoided?

Got some leads to follow now.

My German pal, Till, bought me some of this stuff as a leaving present. He’s from Freiburg and it’s his local drop. Very delicious, as is their Pils.

I’ve broken the scaphoid in my right wrist twice now. It healed fine the first time but not the second and I’m now left with a non-union scaphoid fracture.

Does it affect me? Not at all, really.

Yes, it aches from time to time and if I jar the wrist it hurts like blazes but day-to-day I pretty much forget about it. I can still ride a bike, climb, and do all the other things that keep a man sane… 8O

No doubt it will give me trouble in the future but when I was told by my consultant 12 years ago that the blood supply was damaged and half of it had necrotised, I expected to be incapacitated by the time I was 40 (which was a number of years ago now!). Best advice was to keep active and maintain strong supporting musculature and that has served me well so far.

I post this only as a counter to any horror stories out there on the hysterical side of the web. Best advice though is as above – be pushy in getting proper care to ensure it heals properly. And good luck dude.

Aye – just had a look at climate data. Not encouraging…

    Ah well, Lochaber it is!

OK – scrub Canaries. Too pricey.

My finger is hovering over flights to Lisbon for £157 return. Bike £70 extra.

    Any reason not to?

    Aye – that’s what I’m seeing. Bah!

Any other suggestions for Xmas sun, ideally with awesome riding, for tuppence ha’apenny?

Majorca highly recommended for cycling, Al.

Was there in April and it was very quiet.

    Hmmmm…

Just looked at prices to Tenerife from EDI – no bargains to be had.

GLA to Malaga more reasonable. Any idea about climate in Andalucia over Xmas period?

    I hear you on Italy…

Not all roads (Lake Como area was fine) but some of the surfaces in the Dolomites would shake the very flesh from your bones. Particularly terrifying is the SS51 into Cortina from the north west. The tarmac seems to have sloughed off to the side leaving long, serpentine cracks along the camber, exactly where you would ride a bike.

I used an app called Bulkr which seemed to work pretty well, though that was a couple of years ago now. I’m sure they’ve adapted it to mesh with flickr’s current ghastly incarnation.

It’s a slow process, depending on your bandwidth and the number/size of your pics but I’m pretty sure it allowed archiving at native resolution.

    Cheers guys!

It was a great trip, despite the overwhelming feeling of being alone in the universe  And the driving; so much driving.

Beej – agree with you on the Como circuit. It has a bit of everything – brilliant climbs, history, a tremendous, flowing descent, views…

RichT – would have loved to have added the Stelvio and Gavia but the forecast for Bormio area always looked pretty poor so I didn’t risk it. Next year…

    Cheers dude.

Perplexingly, it all appears to work now! I tried the share button on your photos and it worked then I went back to mine and it was all working like it should.

Weird, since it was fine in Chrome earlier but refused to work in FF.

No problems with Chrome but still doesn’t work with Firefox.

Anyway, here are the fruits of my labours.

To compound my frustration, I’ve just lost the rambling, incoherent photo-essay text because I refreshed the wrong tab. Arse.

I’m going out for a walk for a while. Hopefully it’ll work when I get back.

This is a bit like Brazil’s capitulation in the 1998 final – only MUCH more so.
