7.15 plus 3.95 postage. You could easily get a decent set of bearings for a tenner 😀

Always keep a spare set or two in the backpack. Oh and fresh out the pack…

buzz-lightyear…there are some really good servicing guides out there. Once youve done it once you’ll wonder what all the fuss is about!

It’s known they wear out quickly – for the price it’s unacceptable.

They only wear out quickly when people neglect them…

Apparently, this is a common fault with Fox Forks but can someone explain what the impact is?

Its not a fault, its a problem that develops because the fork doesnt get serviced.

If i were buying second hand i would stay away…hard to tell how much damage has been done and could continue to get worse…

Bought me one of those 3 or so years back. Was a couple of quid cheaper mind. It’s not hydrophilic it lasts for ages…used about half the bottle over the 3 years and i bleed quite alot of brakes.

where does fox recommend forks to be stored upside down?

To keep the foam rings lubed. Storing upside down lets the oil in the lowers run down and soak the rings.

a set of Pink Wotans would set that off nicely!

    Haha, dam right!

stuartanicholson, heavier oil will mess up the damping.

    In the lowers? Your joking?

    That burger looks pretty good.

Not so keen on the meat cake though…

I think Mojo recommend Float Fluid for the foam rings, it’s different to the fork oil used in the lowers.

Maybe, but since the forks should be kept upside down does it really matter? Would the fluids not just mix?

Question i have is why do fox reccommend a quite light oil in the lowers (7wt) when other manufacturers use 15wt+. It would seem to me a heavier oil in the lowers would be better and help it ‘cling’ to the internals as the fork works.

Fox use 7wt in the lowers…

I dont wanna let her just die…she’s given me 3 years of perfect service, and its far from worn…shifts(ed) far better than the new xt i just bought.

Ralph, did the bolts come with the axel?

Is it noticeably stiffer than qr?

Take the old bolts down to your local hardware store and ask for some the same (but new).
Or measure them up and have a search on internet.

Can these spacers be fitted to any mech?
Ive a 34.9 LX front mech and my new frame takes a 31.8.

There’s plenty of people who can’t even fit new brake pads though, and don’t own any tools. For them it’s virtually impossible. And how long did it take you to do it first time?

Thats a fair point. It prob took me a good hour or so. But i quite like faffing about with the bike so the time didnt really bother me…

    PeterPoddy,
Ok 10 mins is optimistic…I can do it in about 15-20mins (and im no pro mechanic) but maybe thats because i do it often enought…no special tools needed 😉
Marzocchi you dont need to because they’re open bath. RS are essenially the same as fox but with an oil seal instead of a foam ring. RS and Fox forks both use very little oil in the lowers (hence the light weight) but because of this they need more servicing.
You you makes your choice, you pays your money!

I cant understand you guys…You pay £600 for a set of forks and 10mins service every 15 hours riding is not alot of effort!
And RS forks should have the same love!
Guess thats the price you pay over marzocchi for light weight.

Anyone used 719s? Are they pretty much the same as 819s but not tubeless?

Just had a look at the arch and flow rims…they’re like £65 each!

Sorry, should have mentioned im not buying new, so stuff like the blood or alpine are no go’s.
Have been looking at 06/07/08 patriots and their variable travel(5.5 or 7). Bit thougher but dont think that much heavier…does anyone know the weight diff from a 5 to a patriot?

Problem with shraeder is they have no lockring…harder to get the pump on when flat. Only reason i use presta.

Got some of these Lickity Split Flats not long back from mtb direct.
Well impressed. £35 gets you a well made large platform concave pedal with sealed bearings. Bargin!
After numourous harsh winter rides still as smooth as the day i bought them.
