But to be honest I didn't hold back, breaking a leg hurts the same if there's someone there or not.
True, but a broken leg could well turn into a life/death situation if your left in the middle of nowhere.
I would never ride DH alone, partially for safety, but mostly because its lonely!

Ran mine for years with 140mm pikes on and no problems.

Is it a state of mind or a way of life? imho both.

I think this is pretty characteristic of XXXC.

Looks like regular xc to me.

You can get a 10mm bolt thru and get a 10mm saint (or other axle) and pop a bolt on the end…i would imagine it would be heavier though.

I have the 10mm bolt up and i’m not worried about the alu threads…

Yes, but you wont be able to run a big ring up front.
You’ll be fine on a single front ring and just get away with one on a 22/32 front.

    Bike forum is good…its random!

Classifieds could do with sorting out into sub cats.

Search function i find hard to use effectively. (EDIT, just had a search and its been redone!)

jackthedog…the reason you hear so much about them is there are so many out there. They must outnumber any other hub by about 5 to 1!

Pro2 gets my vote. Easy to service, light, make a cool noise(love/hate thing) and interface can be changed (ie 9mm, QR, 20mm, 10mm bolt thru, 10mm bolt up)…oh and hopes customer service is amazing. If you do ever break anything they’ll pretty much replace it for free/very cheap.

Although i do like the saints disc interface, but cone bearings so you have to keep ontop of them.

Washing out can also be caused by rebound being too fast/slow…

I think then you may be getting into the ‘send to TF’ (or ask him) territory!

More positive will make them less plush on the little stuff.

petefromearth…would a 28 not limit you as to how steep a climb you can go up?
I wouldnt want to be grinding up a steep one with a 28 after 2hrs of riding!

I do know, now that for a given post mount, an IS-post adaptor for the front 160mm cant be used on the back, and a 160mm IS-post adaptor on the back is the same as an IS-post adaptor for 160mm on the front.

    That didnt make sense!
You mean for the same IS-post adaptor, the rear disc will be 20mm smaller.

    Just take big ring off.
Granny/big ring will give poor chain line at the small/big ends of the cassette.

trailmonkey…gotta agree, a 22/34 would be perfect for off road. MRP LRP solves the chain issue.
Reason i asked about the big ring is i ran a 36 on my dh bike and only ever span out at ft bill between the tissot jump and finish…i would not want to be going the speed you need to clear the finish jump on my trail bike!

Does anyone actually use a big ring when off road?
    I run a 22/32 on my 5 and rarely/never spin out with a 32/11 on the back.

Indeed stuart. As a long time Marzocchi fan, I can honestly say that this difference in attitude will make ALL the difference next time I buy forks.

That and the reliability that marzocchi were famed for has gone.

Have you ever stripped and re-lubed the air chamber?

AFAIK, Marzocchi stopped making service manuals available in 2007. I think it’s something to do with warranty – if you only get them services by a recognised service centre, they’ll have fewer issues etc.

If that is the case its pretty interesting to see the other 2 (fox and rockshox) going the other way and releasing full stripdown instructions.

A mashed banana and fresh cut apple in flapjack is pretty tasty. Always reminds me of apple crumble…has me craving for custard!

Just ask politely when its to be posted.
I sometimes dont have time to post stuff for a few days, but will have a reasonable idea when im going to be able to get it done.

Is there lots of oil or just small rings?

Normally with marzocchi i would release air pressure, remove the top caps, pour out oil, remove footbolt then cartridge should just pull out leaving stanctions and lowers. Stanction and lowers can then be parted and you can get at the seals.
(Disclaimer…it has been a few years since ive have a set of marzocchis so this may not be accurate!)

Im just waiting for a set of mx comps to arrive…when i get them i’m gonna strip them down and service. If your still without a guide i can help more then!

Performance wise i did hear they were very good and pretty much on par with the rp23, it was the reliability i was worried about.

Funn 45 smx stem with low rise 720 full on bars. Low and wide…makes for a superb fun bike.

Could it be that your sprokets are worn?

    stuartanicholson

How do damaged stanchions cause that many problems – only lube oil/grease can come out. Air is inside the piston (inside the stanchion) – surely the scratch is the equivalent of scratching the outside of a syringe barrel??

A worn/damaged stanction allows dirt and water to get inside the lowers easier. If wont affect the air, but will mean a more frequent service schedule…not such a problem if you dont maintain anyway or like shitty feeling forks.

    EDIT: I think!

    You think right!

Pikes have oil seal, foam and dust seal as standard (non oem) so i would assume the rest of the range would…unless revelations use the fox/magura system and have a dust/oil seal in one and foam below?

Must be round 5inch travel (no more, I have 6″ travel DH bike)

You know prophets are 140mm (5.5″) right?
Maybe this sounds a little rude, but why have a 5.5″ and a 6″ travel bikes? What is the 6″ DH bike you ride?

Actually went to a mate of mine for £1050 outside the auction. It seems not many folk want to pay the 10% ebay fees!

Got an areozine BB a few months back so its had 2 months of shitty mud riding.
Just opened he up to regrease and not too bad inside. Some of the grease had washed away but overall pretty good. Regreased with fresh high quality grease and its just as smooth as new.
Ive only used shimano BB before on they are on par with them, but cheaper. I would imagine a hope or CK BB would have better sealing, but if you regularly clean and regrease then not much difference.
