Firstly, apologies for missing the bright yellow thread about forum search, couldn’t see the search box so just ploughed on with a new thread.
As expected there is already a spectrum of answers here. Sounds like I’ll make a basic “there there” style pack, probably with something gauze/dressing like and some sort of cleaning fluid. I do already actually have a space blanket in the bag, been sat there for about 5 years and forgot I even had it.
We ended up riding back to the Lookout on Tuesday to get him cleaned up but his nerves were shot after the fall so it was day over anyway.
stuart_cFree MemberThe flashback campsite and lake that the ship flew over just before crashing was at Black Park, Wexham. Have a picture of the campsite somewhere…
Pretty sure it was last summer I saw it there.
As for the show, yes a very different take on Star Wars tone. Enjoying it more than some of the other Disney+ stuff being created at the moment.
stuart_cFree MemberDear diary,
I am officially a failure…..
“Life” just gets in the way. Sort of managed to get to day 15/16 before properly falling off, but suspect that some of the days prior to that I was pushing my luck with what classed as exercise.
Yesterday was a 100% blowout anyway due to a migraine and I will be travelling Weds/Thurs this week for work so no way I can do anything on those days.
Should get my road bike back next week so will get Zwift up and running, saw someone mention changing the challenge to 100 hours before Xmas, will see what I can do about that as a plan B.
stuart_cFree MemberWhat kind of shady stuff are you all doing on your phone that you’re worrying about someone “seeing”??
Where I work there is a clear policy that personal devices should be avoided for work data whenever possible, if they think you will ever need anything remotely then a phone/tablet is provided. Pretty clear cut.
I have not had a “personal phone” in probably 10 years and never had any issues. I’m aware it’s saving me £20-30 each month and I don’t job hop all the time to leave gaps in ownership. Last time I moved jobs I was without a company phone for 2 weeks, I didn’t die from not having a phone…..
Unless you think your company will be actively dickish about phone usage then I can’t see a problem either way, but if they are awkward then I suspect it’s just a crap company to work for anyway and phones are the least of your problems.
stuart_cFree MemberSince I last posted (which was last Monday):
Tuesday: 4.1 miles of walking to do school runs and stuff
Wednesday: 2 miles walked and a 7 mile MTB ride to get some cash out
Thursday: 3.5 miles walked and some basic body weight exercises at lunch
Friday: As above
Saturday: 2.8 miles of walking and a bunch of DIY lugging/clambering in the afternoon
Sunday: 17 miles on the MTBI suspect today will be a blowout as have already been half passed out on sofa for over an hour this morning tryin to shake off the early signs of a migraine.
I feel like I should start a post like this with “Dear diary,”
stuart_cFree MemberSaw this thread last week, didn’t get chance to say “I’m in” but made sure I did stuff. Managed to sneak on a good 8KG than I should have over the last year and just getting moving has become more difficult to just get on with lately. I will be setting my bar quite low in terms of what counts as exercise each day, or I just won’t do it.
Friday: In the office so avoided the lift in our 6 floor building and stairs it up and down a fair bit throughout the day
Saturday: Covered a good 6.5 miles of walking whilst helping out at the kids cycling club
Sunday: Covered another good 6.5 miles walking around at Silverstone (Ferrari Challenge day)
Monday: 46.6 miles on the road bike, not really touched the bike much over last 2 months so this hurt by the endThe elder boy will be stealing my road bike for the next 2-3 weeks for his bike club, once I get that back I’ll be getting my Zwift setup out which will help fill days.
stuart_cFree MemberYes you should tell them, out of courtesy and the belief that they should then help you along the way (assuming you deserve the opportunity).
Where I work it is considered a necessary step in the process to talk to your line manager about it before applying for anything. They should then be helping you through the process, or as other have said may have already considered you as part of succession planning.
If a boss blocks a move out of stupidity/own agenda then they should not be a boss.
stuart_cFree MemberMy boys used to go a local kids “Go Ride” club a few years back and the older 1 (about 9 at the time) would spend the whole evening just quietly practicing his wheelies whilst waiting around. 1 of the coaches came over and advised him not to as “The top of the fork might explode and hit him in the face with bits”. We nodded in acceptance and walked away slowly….
stuart_cFree MemberThere for the Sunday. Got there mega early. Printed tickets seemingly fell out my pocket somewhere between the car and the gate! Slight panic until it became clear I could use the digital version on my phone. Luckily the phone signal was still working at 6 in the morning to login and get them. After that my phone was basically a paperweight for the day. Very glad I took an FM radio now.
Atmosphere was great, also took a walk of the circuit during the F2 race to get a feel for the place. Left our chairs but Vale and they were still there when we got back for the F1, very relieved with that. As has been said, seeing Mansell’s car (and hearing it) was cool and the crowd reaction was great. During the race hearing the roar every time Lewis came round shows the passion and added to the day. Last 10-12 laps great racing, all it needed was a 30 seconds of rain in there and it would’ve been the perfect race.
Would really love to do Spa 1 year, it’s always on around my birthday so would be an awesome present, might have to save up for a few years for that 1 though.
stuart_cFree MemberWas there, brilliant day out as rookie attendees!
Was setup at Vale for the day for the atmosphere. We walked the track perimeter during the F2 race to see all the views/angles, so ended up not being there for the F2 crash. That looked a big hit as well as Zhou’s.
Fantastic atmosphere and a brilliant race to be at, the direct relation of crowd volume to Lewis’ 4>3>2>3>4 move was very clear.
Stayed for podium but then left before evening stuff. Journey home not too bad really.
stuart_cFree MemberPondo, yes race day only. If we were doing multiple days then would absolutely have done 1 at Copse/Maggots/Becketts for the “oooph that’s fast” moment and then a day at Club/Vale for the atmosphere.
Have now acquired an FM radio so can keep in on the info from that. Couple of camp chairs sorted, now need to see how much we can manage to carry in terms of clothing and food to cover all the bases.
stuart_cFree MemberJust there for the day, couldn’t warrant making a whole weekend of it as not sure he would have the actual patience for all of it.
Have had Copse/Maggots/Becketts suggested to us for the real view of what the cars can do, but been told it’s quite isolated other than that.
Have downloaded radio apps on to phones as seemingly nobody I know has good old fashioned twisty dial FM radios these days?
Would love to go wandering throughout the day but if we get a good spot early on I’d not then want to lose it. German towel syndrome.
stuart_cFree MemberA slight tangent of this subject, has anyone had July/August flights cancelled? With news in recent days of “pro-active” cancellations to stop the last minute madness has anyone been on the receiving end it yet? Basically, has anyone been notified or would you not find out until much closer?
stuart_cFree MemberRocketdog, let me rephrase, “value” wheel set. I do have to try and budget so there will be some compromise unfortunately.
As to why the hell I’d remove a tyre for them to do a spoke, it snapped at the thread so old nipple is blocked.
Any experience here of Silt wheels? The Scribe (road version) of the brand seems to do well.
stuart_cFree MemberWell, the plot has not so much thickened, it has more come to a complete halt and I’m rather at a loss.
Went to shop to get details to give to Wiggle and upon putting the wheel in a trying stand it has a side to side swing of about 2 inches! Now, I KNOW it wasn’t like that when on the bike (the wheel would not have turned in the frame) and I can say with great confidence that it was not like that when I handed it in (I would’ve seen that) BUT as I don’t have a picture of it as I handed it in there’s not much I can do other than accuse a shop of jumping on the wheel. I removed wheel from bike, removed tyre basically by hand and put the wheel in the car.
Having seen the wheel in person again I’m truly stumped as to what the hell has happened. Barring going to war with LBS it kinda feels like this is a chalk it up to experience thing and know to take pictures of stuff before I hand it over.
Right, budget wheel sets, talk to me…
stuart_cFree MemberTonyf1, doing the chasing in an attempt to get sorted in time to take my boys out tomorrow. Not often the stars align that I can get out with them so to have this issue now is just really bad timing.
Scotroutes, agree it’s very nice of them but now feel I’m between the proverbial rock and hard place. Had I broke the wheel doing something silly I would put my hands up and deal with it, but I absolutely don’t ride aggressively in anyway and the failure was whilst coasting along a road at 10mph. The LBS’ updated appraisal of the wheel being inherently built wrong is why I’m leaning back on Wiggle, but I can’t say for sure which end is in the wrong in terms of opinion.
stuart_cFree MemberOriginal number from shop when I phoned them was about £40 which Wiggle signed off.
Shop then called later with the new price which Wiggle are now questioning.
stuart_cFree MemberHi,
Broke half way through school run, literally just pinged as I was coasting. Rode half a mile on the road after that. LBS asked me if I had mucked around with other spokes and tried to straighten it myself which I hadn’t. The tone indicated that they believed they’d never seen a wheel like it, what I can is that visually and ride feel I wouldn’t say it was miles out (wish I’d taken a closer view/spin of it now before handing it over).
Your numbers make sense and I think that’s what has thrown me. I think I will have to disappoint the kids this weekend and argue with the shop on this 1.
stuart_cFree MemberSo, a Belker 20cm lead has just arrived via Prime and it now works straight away.
Stupid that this was the fix, but it’s saved forking out for a new phone so I’ll take it.
stuart_cFree MemberHave ordered a “spendy” cable as a next step. 1st 3 reviews for it on Amazon went along the lines of “Finally my Android Auto works!”
Fingers crossed.
stuart_cFree MemberLinked directly to OP, I can vouch that the online process is simple as. I would say the only reason to being in a 3rd party is if you think anyone involved in the family/process is in any way “unscrupulous” in their intentions.
My experience of doing it, we have had to apply for an LPA on the wrong side of “decision time” for my Dad. He had a stroke last August and in the following weeks/months it became apparent that this thing called “an LPA” was needed. We started it online eventually about 3 months ago (Mum putting off slightly, she had enough on her plate) and I sat down with her and my brother and we just made sure at every page all 3 of us said “yeah that’s ok”, I’m happy that none of us are up to anything so we just cracked on. Luckily my parents day to day spending is in a joint account so my Mum has been ale to go on day to day but big things like pensions and investments she can’t do anything with until the LPA gets signed off (takes up to 20 weeks!). As part of Dad’s care it has been requested he be means tested but we can’t actually even do that as the banks won’t let us until LPA is done, council don’t seem to understand that bit though and keep chasing, very frustrating.
I have recently tried to start dropping into conversation about doing Mum’s LPA as soon as possible after seeing all the trouble we’re having now, still a work in progress that 1. My advice to anyone, have the LPA conversation with family now and just have it done even if it doesn’t get used for 20 years. Soon as our kids turn 18 we will probably get something for wife and I in place.
Some of the comments on here about banks and companies not being overly useful even with an LPA there, something I definitely need to take note of once it comes through. Sounds like that will be a bunch of fun all by itself.
stuart_cFree MemberThanks all.
We have tried 2 cables so far with no joy, will go through the almighty “random box of cables” and pull out all the options to try.
My brother has just got an S22 so next time I see him I’ll get him to plug in and see what happens.
