Is there a float switch or similar that is separate to the pump?

I went to look at job yesterday where they had 12 panels on a flat roof installed 12 years ago. Access was easy so I could disconnect every panel and measure them individually. The open circuit voltage on each panel from new was 37 volts, after testing, they ranged from 5.8v up to 28v. Nothing had completely failed but there was a broad range of deterioration. We are going to be going back to the manufacturer to see what can be done – but I’m not holding my breath !

There’s the option of internal or external. It came with a little bag of bolt on guides and blanking plugs to convert to external if required.

I’m going to demo the aeris 9 in November at hamsterley. I’m tempted by the slash as there’s some good deals on 2022 stuff at the moment (with lyric select) but I think I’d regret not waiting and getting with the bird with lyric/Zeb ultimates.

I can confirm it is a very awkward job. I had to put the beam inside the house on the inside of the wall that was coming out, install all the akrows around it, dig out the pad stone foundations, install steel reinforced concrete, knock down exterior wall – then finally lift steel in, mount the columns, cement in the column bases then chemset in the ties and bolts to existing brickwork
    Simples…….

Make sure the PTC heater is still working. They are very expensive to get someone else to fix and a pig of a job to do yourself. This is a purely electric heater to preheat the cabin before the heat pump takes over. You can see on the power meter if it’s working as it should draw 4-5 kw with the heater on from cold.

With reference to the rough cost figures up there
Let’s not forget the govt just spent (wasted?) 37 billion on track and trace…..maybe ask for some of that back?

There is no mention in the guidance so far on having to close your business to claim the support. It looks like you have to notify HMRC of which staff you are intending to ‘Furlough’ and then they will subsidise their wages. The way I read it you can put most of your staff on a furlough status, carry on with core staff to do whatever work is available, and use whatever revenue you can bring in to keep whole business afloat.

    From Here :https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/guidance-to-employers-and-businesses-about-covid-19/covid-19-support-for-businesses

Support for businesses through the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme
Under the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, all UK employers will be able to access support to continue paying part of their employees’ salary for those employees that would otherwise have been laid off during this crisis.

    Eligibility
    All UK businesses are eligible.

    How to access the scheme
    You will need to:

designate affected employees as ‘furloughed workers,’ and notify your employees of this change – changing the status of employees remains subject to existing employment law and, depending on the employment contract, may be subject to negotiation
submit information to HMRC about the employees that have been furloughed and their earnings through a new online portal (HMRC will set out further details on the information required)
HMRC will reimburse 80% of furloughed workers wage costs, up to a cap of £2,500 per month. HMRC are working urgently to set up a system for reimbursement. Existing systems are not set up to facilitate payments to employers.

If your business needs short term cash flow support, you may be eligible for a Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan.

I’m in the same boat robbo. If my asthmatic wife gets locked down for 12 weeks she doesn’t want to be apart from the kids. She’s expecting a letter? from gp/phe explaining what the next steps are soon. We need money to pay for stuff so, if it comes to that, I’ll be moving out for 3 months and going to work.

We’ve got a 13 plate and the only issue in 3 years has been the electric auxiliary PTC heater dying. It’s used to pre heat the car in the morning and take up the slack getting the heat pump up to heat. Costs about a grand to replace, so we’re just leaving it. You can see if it’s working by looking in the energy settings menu and looking at how much power is being used by the heaters. If it doesn’t go above 1.5kw (heat pump) the PTC heater isn’t coming on.

I bought a sparkler candle in the shape of a 5 for my 5 year olds birthday cake.
Large print warning on the back that it was not suitable for anyone under 5 !

It is mentioned in the article that the alarms were sounding in the hallways but not in the rooms. This points to the Sounders in the rooms being overridden or disabled, if this is the case someone has put a lot of kids life at risk and luckily got away with it.

If you’ve got all the individual circuit breakers off and and the RCD still won’t reset you need to double check everything is unplugged and try again, a lot of switches will only turn live off and the fault can come through the neutral

Turn oven off at cooker switch, it’s double pole and will properly isolate oven.
Hopefully this doesn’t lead to an epic explosion picture thread!

This falls under part b of building regulations rather than the electrical regulations

    https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/485420/BR_PDF_AD_B1_2013.pdf

It comes down to whether the building was simply rewired or if there was a material change to the building ( ie extension )

It is generally accepted as good practice to put them in but if it is a straight rewire you are just seen as replacing the electrics like for like.

There may be a separate humidistat hiding somewhere or if it’s a 12v fan the transformer may have other controls ?

Can’t tell if hes being sarcastic or not…

It should usually take up to half a day to actually wire it in place depending on the water and gas bonding and if any cabling needs extending etc. And the other half of the day to test and inspect the rest of the wiring, I usually leave half a day for this as you don’t know exactly whats involved until you take it apart and start testing.
A lot of cowboys will skip the second half and as long as the RCD doesn’t trip when they turn it on its job done!
The consumer units range from £75+, Mains tails and consumables will add £20-30 + any earth bonding?. The rest will be labour so you have to work out what your comfortable to pay someone for a day – in this case £800 + for a days work.

This is all to do with Liability. ( arse covering !)

The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 require that any electrical equipment that has the potential to cause injury is maintained in a safe condition. However, the Regulations do not specify what needs to be done, by whom or how frequently (ie they don’t make inspection or testing of electrical appliances a legal requirement, nor do they make it a legal requirement to undertake this annually).

One way of proving that you comply is to have your installation and appliances tested and documented regularly.

The onus is on the business owner to show how they complied if they end up in court after an accident.

The general message the film in perpetuating is that we should be looking to eat less meat and use the land more efficiently to grow vegetable based foods (for humans).
Land required to feed 1 person for 1 year:
    Vegan: 1/6th acre

Vegetarian: 3x as much as a vegan

Meat Eater: 18x as much as a vegan [xvii]

Fair enough, I was just trying to illustrate some of the ‘facts’ in the film that caught my attention.
I don’t know where all the food I eat comes from and there are pretty staggering figures being consumed world wide.
