Just realised why you’re so shocked, 300 a month not 500. My bad

Yes I am, kmc 10spd chain, shimano hg cassette and race face narrow wide, the cassette and chain had probably 500 miles on it before I went to narrow wide.

Had about a year on mine, same cassette and same chain, doing nearly 500miles a month, and my local is thetford, so horrible sand. Next to no maintaining, lubing chain when its rusty and won’t move.
No issues. Seem to be lucky with drivetrains, I work on the if it ain’t broke don’t touch it approach. Need a new chain, but hope to get another year out of the rest

Mines the same as soon as there is a hint of muck, you get used to it

I’d assume they are simply not worth it. Great when it can be checked. I recommend sitting with a ratchet handle and torque analyser and getting a feel of it.

    stu170

Well how do you know you are getting the right torque?
The ham fisted will drop and treat their torque wrench incorrectly, meaning it won’t give the accurate torque loading.

And this is why the “oh you must use a torque wrench” brigade on here annoy me. Torque wrenches should be analysed before each use. Without that they are as useful as any other ratchet handle, but makes a click, at any random torque value. For an amateur in the garage on a bike there is no need.

Hi boltonjohn, I’m not actually after the job,was just highlighting the fact that a degree isn’t always necessary to be classed as an engineer. Cheers anyway, makes me feel good about when I do come to need to find another job

Throwing some fuel onto the fire here, what would you say to an ex RAF technician with only an NVQ level 3 but 9 years real world experience.
Just because you have done the course and got the paper, doesn’t mean you can really do the job

My g shock is cracking on 5 years old as a “work” watch. Spends its life strapped on my arm in the inside of tight aircraft servicing panels. Therefore covered in engine oil, hydraulic fluid and getting bashed and battered. Resin strap is no issue. Battery still going strong, the backlight is like a landing light its so bright.
Looks wise I wouldn’t want to wear it out, its brilliant utilitarian watch though

The endura engine, but never mind, mine had a 2l duratec engine, crashed it, parked it up and still 18months later can’t bare to get rid of it. Mk1 focus, changed the industry

No riding, but a trip to that there London with old school friends. Too much to drink Friday, imperial war museum Saturday and to top the hangovers up in the evening.

I know most race weekends in the evening the track will be open. Freddy pett who has the 2nd quickest strava time races in the triumph triple series, guess he snuck his bike on the track one evening, many bike/car racers cycle the tracks

I haven’t myself, but it does remind me an amusing story.

A few years ago when in Afghan, me and a colleague were in the ablutions, I was brushing my teeth, as he steps out the shower and positions himself in front of the basin to start his shave, he let’s rip, with quite a wet one that had lumps in. Cue a very wet brown mush on the floor, I laughed so very hard, colleague with a very sheepish, embarrassed look on his face says, “Stu I hope we can keep this to ourselves”. Well I have never ran out into a corrider so fast to tell the rest of the lads about his predicament.

Mine has done the same since new, I have read that many do, I believe it to be air in the oil as it doesn’t sag halfway.
I changed the oil out to fork oil, then filling it up trying to remove all air. Seemed to cure it a little, but the only sucessful method of stopping the sag is to release the post to full extension very slowly. Not great but I know how to use it now and its fine. Annoying but fine

Brilliant peaks trip, cut gate both ways, potato alley and hagg farm descent (normally walk up it), riding well again and glorious sunshine, bit busy up there as there was a sportive or something like that on

A lot has been felled and a motorbike enduro has passed through there recently and the good stuff is all chewed up. Should settle back down again. You were in the right area
