I wouldn’t be too worried, can get an MOT done for £150 and I don’t even have to take the car to them.

Anyone that thinks a huge amount of in house MOTs aren’t just printouts are kidding themselves.

Facebook for the last sub £500 rotter. But be careful, some one contacted us at half 8 in the evening, half hour away. He eventually turned up at 11, with just a pair of tracksuit bottoms on. And a heavy aroma of weed.

Seemed a nice enough guy, happily counted out the cash and actually gave me a genuine name and address for the paper work even after I asked if I should put Mickey mouse.

And drove off into the fen. Happy as larry

What about the fact this large kit, tends to be on big wide floatation tyres these days.

In attempt to reduce ground compaction and spread the weight better, so is actually causing less damage to the road than cars? Or even a really fat person on super skinny road tyres?

Also various groups encouraging youngsters into a “career” in what’s a crap industry (agriculture and businesses serving agriculture) to be in especially if you don’t have your own business or inherit land.

Last time I checked, we couldn’t eat IT. Here’s an idea, encourage the kids and the future into it, they’ll change it and it won’t be a crap industry…..or your approach seems to be getting rid of it and we all die.

I won’t inherit any land, nor do I own a business, but I seem to be making a decent living from agriculture and provide a home and future for my children.

Big hebtroco fan here, had 6 different pairs and styles of trews from them, and I buy on the ethics principle. Quality is A1, but there seems to be this illusion they will last forever that’s simply not true in my case.

I’m a agricultural mechanic and wear my fancy spendy trews for work, as I work hard, can spend my money on what I want and importantly the fit/comfort of hebtroco is bang on for me. But the “decades long wear” in actual hard conditions, not so true.

I’ve some moleskin 177s that are 8 years old, doing well but they are worn once a month, but I’ve eaten through governor denim and moleskin, and cords in less than a year. All through wear in the crotch.

I will continue to buy them though, as ethically its proper, but this illusion of buy a pair and they last for decades isn’t right. A £20 pair of Tesco jeans will last forever if you don’t wear them.

As a side note my £3 vinted Armani exchange jeans are lasting well.

Aluminium slip, like copper slip but aluminium. Copper is so old fashioned.

Oh don’t I know it. What I really should have done was ask for the money back after it went back originally at 32 days. Rather than allow this carry on to go on.

That’s mad. Yours is £30 tax, sorry VED, mines free. Same bloody engine.

And to Rusty, the garage have actually thrown a new turbo on it, it seems in all the work they’ve done. So baring that in account they’ve done enough to not resort to option 4, it was just the way he got very defensive and not very nice, but I do see it from his side. He’s spent plenty and it’s clearly costing him now.

But the injector one is a point I do need to look at, as there is clear carbon deposits around injector 1 and 2.

Essentially I’ve bought a pup, and as an agricultural tech I really should know better.

Now I’m at a mop up and salvage point.

So update. After a feverish few hours this morning I’ve secured an old 2005 petrol 1800 focus this morning, leaving me with time to think carefully about what to do with the Volvo.

Option 1, continue letting the garage have a look at it and be very petty abou the whole thing knowing I have the time and effort and spite to sort it.

Option 2, have all faults cleared and get it back into the dealer network as a part X.

Option 3, an old college and friend runs a diesel specialist tuning place, and “recommends a full delete, and friendly MOT tester”…..which he is

Option 4, drive it into the forecourt in a fireball, and loads of frozen sausages, bombers and pee for shoes.

On a serious note, thanks for reminding me the garage have been reasonable enough, and it’s pays your money’s takes your chances with this sort of stuff.

Volvo v50 1.6 diesel. Im pretty certain of what the fault is and it due to resetting counters. But I’m told that’s all been done. There is also history of questionable work done by them in the past that I’ve let slide.
So that’s why this one has got me frustrated.

Absolutely shocked by some of the responses from a usually “eco minded” bunch. But then again image is clearly a bigger factor to some folks.

Our garden has huge leaf and twig fall, and we do nothing. Leave it. Come spring the majority has decomposed. Nice healthy soil and the worms pull it down. Quick run over with the mower in spring and it’s business as usual.

    Driving to a tip……for leaves…..utter madness.

Some people worry too much. I’ve a focus that’s on 114k miles, I last checked the dipstick at 72k when I swapped the oil and filter.

Doing an experiment! And I’m an agri service engineer and get very upset with customers that miss the 500hr service schedule.

Out here in East Anglia, it’s fairly dry. Some farms reckon only 40mm of rain since march.

I’ve never seen so many harvest related fires.

Yet, some are still drilling. And it’s growing, so there is moisture in the ground.

Been hiding in the AC workshop office all day doing some online training. We got pulled of sites by 11am by the boss.

Mrs text earlier to say she had to bring all the chickens in doors as we have already lost 2. One of the last older ones is still in the front room, but the younger ones are more than happy pottering about outside. Reckon we were up to 40 here in N.Cambs

Odd thread to read through. Only 1 mention of Milwaukee. As a professional user (agricultural engineering) all 7 service techs at our place run Milwaukee, all the contractors we use run Milwaukee. We all buy our own tools.
Most farms I visit, all have Milwaukee.

More me there is no choice, Milwaukee.

I like the idea, I’ve owned my own home for 4 years and in my early 30s and have no intention of ever moving. So I can remortgage to 100 years, reduce my payment down to zip, now freeing up loads of cash to pay into a pension/early retirement fund. And the house is there already set up for my kids when I pass. What’s not to like.

I’m essentially a long term, very cheap rent paying tenant in my own home, with a guarantee my spawn will also be ok.

Only last week I moved from a Nokia 7.1 to a Nokia xr20, for the same reasons as you. I’m impressed, and the Nokia’s do tend to be a bit stronger than anything else I’ve had

Good on you. I’m in a different situation, where I’ve been offered a new job, and I’m so eager to start I’ll be giving only a couple of days notice rather than the week I’m supposed to give. (6 months service on the shop floor engineering) I hate my current job so much, undervalued and a terrible company, that a few weeks ago I just walked out, telling them I need a break for a few days and to use holiday entitlement if they were bothered.
I know legally I have to do a week, but I’m at the point I really don’t care, and will happily load my tools up and never set foot in the door again.

The lorry one is actually due to weight ratings. Not tax as suggested way further up. I’d love to know the reason for that answer. A unit with a midlift or tag axle can carry more than a 4×2.
A tag is rear lift axle giving a shorter wheelbase for tighter turns.

    stu170

I’m not saying they’re wrong, and in my experience there is always a multitude of ways to get the job done, and do whatever you feel comfortable and safe doing.

Yeah 9inch, and I would use a 9 and 4.5 in exactly the same manner as I’ve described.

The guy was getting on fine, infact he even had a leather apron on to protect from the sparks, which got me thinking about why does he need one and I don’t usually have that problem. Which made me take notice of how people use one.

On this occasion it was a vertical cut, so like I say I have left hand on trigger, right on head of grinder/handle where appropriate and stand to the right.

But it seems the general consensus is the other way round, and people prefer to stand to the left of the disc or behind with their left arm right in the danger zone of the disc. Seems very odd to me.

Now if I was grinding on a bench horizontal, I would switch and use right hand on trigger and left on handle/head.

Appears I’m the odd one out.

I’ve come across HAVS, 35mins grinding in a 4hr period according to the sheet I last saw with a makita corded 4.5inch. Which is a joke when it comes to getting the job done, and I’ve never met anyone yet who sticks to them, unless they are on a vibration monitoring system, (which seems to break down after a while, after production falls significantly)
And I was joking about the vibrations,

Must be nice to mess about with Amazon footing the bill (and paying you £m’s on top), wonder if it’s pissing off ordinary farmers who face bankruptcy etc. if their crops fail (or never have money available to invest in new machinery).

Doesn’t seem so, head over to the farming forum, and they are very impressed with it/him. They feel it’s about time farming is getting a fair and accurate representation on the Tele

Archaeology? My wife is a bit further up the chain and spends a fair bit of time in the office/WFH now writing reports. But when she started out in all weather’s all year round.
She studied it at uni, but commercial archaeological units take on untrained folks/labourers.

Rotational grazing my chickens is working well in my garden, move the pen and house every few days and they are tearing the moss out of the lawn. Far less effort than scarifying. Let them little dinosaurs do it for me

    Singlehandedly destroyed…..(not all their fault)

Don’t know how they can singlehandedly destroy biodiversity and it not be their fault entirely.

That’s a pretty confusing post if you read it. Also absolute codswallop, chemical companies, the governments and consumer are the causes.

If you read into what’s happening now and soil improvement, zero till, crop rotations, cover crops, there will vast improvements, if only the average Joe spent a few hours reading about what’s happening, rather than glue themselves to trains we’d be in a better spot.

For example carbon capture programs, taking grasslands and covering them in trees, which is in fact making the problem worse.

    stu170

And that’s also not a great way to capture carbon either compared to other methods.
But all we hear is trees trees trees.

RollinD, that wasn’t meant as a personal attack, although it does read that way.
For me the biggest problem is supermarkets, people have little idea where their food comes from, and the result of this is that meat is bad.

It really isn’t and livestock production is vital to our food. Have a watch of kiss the ground with woody harelson.

The problem is a lot of farming practices are dictated by supermarkets and the consumer, until we are all willing to double our food bills, and that cash is going directly to the producer and not the middle man we are stuffed.

Chemically engineered/not very nutritional veg grown in concrete buildings and the countryside allowed to return to a dead scrub.

And there we have it! You want to do a bit, just a little, but don’t actually want to get your hands dirty because it affects your bottom line too much.
And that’s why all of these “movements” rarely achieve much.

I carry one of those bokers that was posted a while back, simply for the reason it’s “UK legal” it’s basically a locker and has stumped a few people at the strength of the spring on how to fold it.
I’m a agri mechanical fitter and use it all the time it’s a tool, but it’s always in my pocket no matter where I go as it’s so useful.
As for the laws…..in the 31years I’ve been walking the planet I could have had a Smith and Wesson .44 in my pocket, I’ve never been stopped and searched, if you’re the sort of person that finds themselves questioning what the police would say when they search you, you should be having a look at why the police might be searching you and addressing that problem first
