Had to laugh whilst reading the MBR guide to trail centres at lunch. For Thetford it says ‘the excellent bikeshop Bikeart’…….

Either a) misery guts had had a shot of happy injection

    OR

    b) mbr made themselves known so he put on a good show

Someone told me he rakes it in from bike hire (most of which are probably non-returning customers – hence he can get away with being plain rude). But what puzzles me the high end kit he stocks – someone must be buying this stuff, so either they put up with bad manners/get a hefty discount/are part of some clique that he’s helpful to!

LoCo – I have an air shock which cavitated only 5 months after being (fully) serviced. The service centre blamed it on dirt ingress, even though the shock air can was/is regularly removed/cleaned/re-greased, and has had no contamination inside at all.

    What’s your take on this?

My method for a quick wash:

    Spray with garden hose
    Clean chainrings/cassette with spray degreaser
Clean chain using chain bath/citrus degreaser
Clean jockey wheels/front+rear mechs with spray degreaser
    Rinse off with hose
Clean fork stanchions/top-seals plus rear shock shaft/wiper seal with Sh1t Shifter >>> immediately rinse off
Clean pedals with Sh1t Shifter and saddle/grips/control if also muddy
    Rinse off with hose again
Bounce bike to remove excess water
Wipe over chain and then spray with GT85 then wipe/spray again
Spray silicone spray onto mech pivots and around shock seals/wipers
Compress front/rear shocks then wipe shafts

    Job done!

I’ve been trying to get hold of the ebay seller Clood69, but to no avail! Anyone else have issues with getting hold of him (I want Formula parts he’s not listing)

I want to clamp the shaft of an air shock (but the shaft <10mm> that is part of the oil piston assembly – which is inside the shock)

That’s an idea! Going to have to use quite a dense wood though, to stop in deforming when clamped.

Ok – first off there’s nothing wrong with Hunstanton! Sure it may not be the busiest place BUT it’s a nice place to get away from it all, there’s some lovely countryside around the area, and you’re not constantly sitting in traffic jams or bumping in to someone else, no matter where you go…unlike the South East!

And riding. Norfolk isn’t a flat, wilderness either! Sure, it isn’t Wales, hasn’t got mega hills, big downhills, BUT if you’re prepared to look and string a few bits together, you can have a good ride. Buy an OS map for the area and string a few bridleways (which THERE ARE quite a few of around there) together.

Routes to check out are Peddars Way > long, Roman road, which has a few sharp climbs/downhills. You can put this in as part of a circular ride. A good route would be to head out of Hunstanton, head to the Ringstead Downs (you get to it by a track near Smithdon High School in Hunstanton, near the Police Station). From the Downs you can pick up Peddars Way at Ringstead, then head down the Way. You can go as far as Sandringham and then you can head West, and go back to Hunstanton via he coast path (from near Snettisham).

You can also take Pedders way down to near Bircham Windmill, and you can find other bridleways or very minor roads, which will take you back, North, towards Hunstanton.

Just get an OS map and string a ride together. Put in a bit of planning and effort and you won’t be dissapointed.

Oh, and you can also have a cheeky ride around the woods at Sandringham!

have you immersed the shock in water, to see where the air is coming from?

if you send me your email, I can send you a pdf format manual

I'll be damned – keep thinking my front wheel looks misaligned, but convinced myself it was an optical illusion

They'll be going back to merlin, then!!!!

the R1 uses the same joint kit as the 'The One' and the Mega, and you can get them from Chain Reaction or UK Bikestore. They are, however, £8.99 – lots for what it is, however, you can't re-use the old ones and on the plus side, it's REALLY easy to fit (you will, however, have to have a bleed kit in order to remove any air that ingests into the system when you cut the hose).

ok – so………… would the following set-up work great/or just about?!

    SRAM X9 shifter
    SRAM Force Road front mech
    Middleburn Duo crank 29/42 rings

Thanks for that – I’m assuming that the front mech is narrower, seeing as roadbikes run double chainrign set-up. However, should be fine to run with a Middleburn Duo crank, I’m presuming.

AA all the way! Car broke down on an Autobahn (shot gearbox) 2 years back > AA sorted out a car for the holiday, a car back to calais, and at 11pm the other side, waiting at Dover, was an Enterprise rep waiting for us, with keys for the car home! 1 week later, the AA had the car brought back to my door, via lo-loader.

Best £40 I’ve EVER spent. The AA were fantastic.

Easton use a plastic shim, and also look at the USE seat port shims > ALL plastic

on this basis, plastic, especially with carbon, could be the safer option – emphasis on COULD

Definitely worth getting the shock serviced if it’s that old (and never been done!) – send it back to the Evans store in Kendall (where they service all the shocks). They are the people who Scott send shocks to as part routine servicing (although Scott don’t tell you that!!!).
