Don’t own any now, but had to as a teen,…. due to being an art student, a fan of Indie music and lived in Rushden!

I asked a similar question a few weeks back, somebody suggested a Marmot PreCip, non bike specific but at £42 from Blacks, I bought one, really rate it.

Thanks for the response Tracey, not sure if the 125mm drop would be enough, but I’ll go and measure again and let you know.

Cheers guys, looks like we’ll head to Langsett, would anybody know where I could get a GPX file of the route from there, will be navigating via my Garmin watch, although one of the lads is ex forces so happy to read a map?

We’d be coming from Northants way, (bit flat around here), so have no idea on starting point really, appreciate all the above, I’ll check some of the suggestions out. Only ride we’ve done in the Peaks is the Ladybower loop starting at the Ladybower Inn.

Cheers Matt, which of your suggestions above would best suit ‘on bike’ duties?

Ah cool, cheers for the response, I’ll also have a look at the Marmot Jacket also, how well does the hood fit over a helmet and does it have a membrane inside?

Not sure that this will help at all, but have one on my 1970 MK1 Chopper, defo built to last as my mechanic mate stripped it down for a clean up and he said it was in great condition considering its age, all put back together and once I’d set up the toggle chain it works great.

A mate showed me some of the off-piste stuff at Cannock, pleasantly suprised, very foggy for a start but then warmed up nicely, had to hire a bike as my new steed hasn’t arrived yet, 16 miles and an awful pace showed that I haven’t been on a bike in a few months, but totally enjoyed it and can’t wait for the new arrival.

I have a Grifter and a Chopper, I’ll take them to the LBS my mate works at and ask hime to weigh them, should be interesting! Chopper is a pig to ride uphill.

    Powdat Enamellers Ltd – Wellingborough

    Spectrum Enamellers Ltd – Bedford

    Stovart – Rushden

First two my mate has used and recommends, 3rd one, most local to me.

Been to that area for the last 4-5 years with Bike Village, have used Trail King Protection, Spesh Tyres (Grid) and currently have Magic Mary on the front and Minion DHR 2 on the rear (neither the DH ones, but with the reinforced side walls, sorry not good at remembering exactly what they are called). All have been fine, you’ll have a great time, amazing riding.

Thanks to all the helpful comments, Mrs Strawb is very happy with her new Patagonia Hooded Down Sweater/Jacket, really warm apparently, so I’m happily in the good books. Cheers

Cheers ‘wrecker’, I’ve ordered her the Patagonia so we’ll see how she gets on. Thanks to all for the input.

Hey guys and gals, many thanks for all the tips and opinions. Mrs Strawb likes the Patagonia Down Hooded Sweater so think gunna go for that one, assuming the 800 down would be warmer than her current thermoball, any real world knowledge of this particular jacket would be appreciated before I hit ‘buy’?

Mainly used when out walking, occasionally around the Peaks (touristy walking routes etc) but usually just local countryside. However, I’m sure there will be some of the standing around at the park etc. Didn’t know if it was worth going for a more ‘full down’ jacket?

Same as above, 2013 5 door, can happily get my 140mm 29’er FS in there with the front wheel off

I’ve a Carbon SB95, had for 3 years, regular peaks, trail centres and 3 trips to the Alps, run 140 Pikes and carbon rims, suits me fine for my untalented style of riding. As above, keep thinking about changing but can’t justify it, if I was to change I’d go for the SB4.5c, really like the look of the SB5.5c but I think that’d be very overbiked for my general riding.

Not exactly the same as certain things have changed with the spec, but I have the 2015/16 (Nail Trail 9.6) Nail Trail with 100mm forks, great bike that also got rave reviews, I’m 5ft 8 and a fag paper and have the Medium.

Cheers guys/gals, bit of a slog but got round, some great sections and some horrible boggy ruts, ha ha!

Ah, that’s a little distance away for you to throw a leg over I’m afraid as I’m in Northants. All I can say is that like you said, geometry wise it’s somewhere between an XC and Trail bike so great for most scenarios, I really like it and for local riding choose it over my far more expensive carbon FS.

I’m sure the Orange is a great bike, but I have the 2015 Nail Trail 9.6 as my local XC/Trail hardtail, great bike, great reviews and good price. Where are you based Andy?

Same as LAT, I have some old ones in the garage, I’m based in Northants if any good to you?

Not sure to your taste, or more hassle than its worth, but I had old wooden shaker style doors on my cabinets, I wanted to make them look a little more contemporary, so I had coloured (grey) perspex cut to shape and glued onto each door and drawer front having already painted the edge of the doors in a different shade of grey, I was a little worried but I’ve been told they look great and I’m happy with them.

Out of the 4 times I’ve been to Bike Village, 2 of them were on my ‘billy’! Had a great time, really friendly bunch and the riding is amazing! Definitely going next year, not sure whether on my billy or with mates yet!

    “What sort of riding?”

Did the Ard Rock two weeks ago and off to the Alps soon, so not really worried about too much gnar/shred/falling off potential before going away, so may just have a look at Dalby, cheers guys, thanks for your replies!

Running a Magic Mary up front and the Minion DHR II out back, seems a good combo for me although I can’t remember which compounds I have on either 🙁

Not bag related, but have a great time at BV, I’ll be there shortly after you, 4th year running, love it!
