I’ve found the Smith Squads to be really comfy and have a really good field of vision. I normally struggle with goggles and glasses from having knacked my nose a few times, but they stay in place well and fit my lid well too.

I found mine comfy once I got all the straps set up, can adjust them down as the bladder empties too. Just be careful with the magnetic clip, mine popped off the hose somewhere never to be seen again so had to buy a new one.

Nukeproof Horizons, I’ve got the Sam Hill metal ones and had no bother with seals or anything so far. Feel like my foot sits in the pedal better than Saints but hasn’t destroyed my shoes so far.

Throat spray if you can manage it. Makes it easier for the hospital staff because you can understand anything they need to tell you and it’ll be over quicker and you get to go after.

What about the WTB Riddler, I’ve been using Vigilante / Trail Boss on the rear and am looking at these to try.

I had 150 RC’s on my last full sus, think the main difference was they didn’t have lock out on them. Was never a problem for me

I moved from a Bluegrass to an IXS Xult. Nothing wrong with the Bluegrass but the fit of the IXS is a million times better for me. Seems well vented but not used it in summer/warmer times yet, although I seem to boil in most things so just have to live with it. It’s expensive but to me it’s like motorbike helmets, don’t mind spending on a good fit that should save my bonce.

It does come up bigger than a 2.2 TK, as said it’s similar to a 2.4 TK. I had them on a pair Hope rims and they we’re a good size.

Thanks for the replies and help

Thanks for that, think I just needed a bit of encouragement to get me spending some money . Keep looking at them vs a P7 but end up thinking spend the difference on shining bits instead. Just need to sell the wagon wheeler now. Have you noticed much difference with the low bb height, pedal strikes etc?

Nukeproof Horizons have been good so far for me, nice and wide and grippy.

I had a 26″ one. Changed the bearings after a year but was more routine than needed. Got on well with it but probably could of done with a size smaller than I had though, had an xl with a 35mm stem and felt a bit stretched on it.

I was looking at an Alpine but went with the Five with 140 Pikes, had a 26″ wheeled Mega before with 150 Pikes. I’m spending more time playing with suspension set up on the Five, balancing front and back, bottomless tokens, volume reducers in the shock and all that. Can’t say I’m missing any extra travel although am statring to get drawn into setup obsession!

I’ve got a black one and a mate’s had his mk 1 re done in charcoal. Both scuffed up in places fairly quickly, polish up alright but will probably get a change of colour at the end of the year ( orange )

Not looked at prices yet but thought the Yari’s were supposed to be the cheaper of the two. Cheers Loco, sounds like Yari’s then for riding a mix of stuff badly!

I had trouble at first on Hope rims but got there in the end. All the usual stuff of twice round the rim with tape, checked the valve and used washing up liquid on the bead when mounting it. Had to use more sealant than I thought I’d need and 5 minutes bombing round the street after fitting and they’ve been fine since.

Not tried a Mary and only just moved to 650b but am liking the Der Baron so far. Used to have the old 26″ one and found it similar so far. It burped a bit in a rock garden but stayed up and was fine, is alright in mud and on man made stuff. Had to use a bit more sealant than I thought I’d need but it’s held air well since.

Ta very much. All the light weight breathable stuff comes in at the higher end of budget for me but most of my rides are around the 2 hour mark so something like this should hopefully do the job. And they aren’t black or hi viz yellow so probably bumps the price up!

Have just been using a Shorty but am swapping from 26 to 650b and was thinking about a change. Baron Projekt looks a good mixed tyre but can’t find them. I’m guessing the Mud King is more spiked than a Shorty?
