    Thanks for the suggestions!
Failed to mention that I would preferably like a new frame, but would consider an immaculate used frame.
I also was hoping to get something a little less run-of-the-mill, something a bit less common.

yeah I thought it looked legit as well, but you’re right – I doubt they would make it easy to identify.

ok, I will ask him. I think the Q&A should come up at the bottom of the page, so you should be able to see it. I didn’t see that it said it was medium, which is why I thought it might be a possibility. It’s worth investigating. I will keep my eyes peeled.

found this on ebay, but I guess you have already seen it?

is this one anything like yours?

I hope you track it down sooner or later.

I would be able to help, as I have just ordered up the 2010 ones… but in small! So it probably wouldn’t be much help to let you know how they fit!

I think there is a sizing chart on the page for either the 2009 ones or the 2010 ones. Can’t remember, but I am sure that I saw one on there somewhere. If in doubt, try a search for a Mace clothing size chart.

I just don’t understand why with cycling clothing, they can’t tell us what measurements the different sizes accomodate…

EDIT: just re-read and realised that you have found the chart!
I would go by the chart. If you do, I doubt you will run into any problems. And if you do, you can always send them back :)

I took mine off after having people go nuts at me for ringing it, “****ing cyclists, why should I have to get out of your way”. Shouting “scuse me” has never done that, so that’s what I do instead.

I am another one for the voice approach.
Having been a pedestrian in cambridge much more than a cyclist, I have come across more obnoxious, moronic cyclists than I can count. What I find most annoying is that I am a cyclist myself, and they are giving decent mannered cyclists a bad name. Anyway, I digress..

Personally, if I hear a “ding ding” directly behind me, it is as if the person on the bike can’t be ****ed to use their voice to say a nice polite “excuse me”. It is like when you are on the motorway doing the speed limit, and some nob in a BMW or a Mercedes comes right up your arse and flashes their lights at you… because you are doing the speed limit and they want to exceed it and you are holding them up. Obnoxious, **** you sort of attitude.

Also – if there are people in the way in front of me, I generally see it as a challenge, and an opportunity to have MUCH more fun in getting around them, or I just realise that it is their right of way and just say nothing and continue at walking pace quite happily, until there is a place to pass or they decide for themselves that they will let me pass.

There are always people who have to have a little whine about cyclists though, but in those cases, there is nothing you can do, because they are clearly morons. Either give them a load of witty abuse back or just laugh at them and try to kick up some mud as you pass ;)

It all depends on what sort of mood I am in and what the weather is like really, but I just listen to a load of stuff on random.

I have found that Thrash Metal works quite well (works really well for me in the gym too), and some bluesy stuff like Joe Bonamassa is pretty good music for rides too.

There’s nothing like some really fast paced shredding guiter solos for the fast bits of singletrack though…

yeah, I did wonder about what the jolts would do to the phone. I guess it might be safest to just not risk it, or just keep the phone in my pocket as I have been until now. I will look into it a bit more and see what I can find. Maybe it will be a little DIY project for my spare moments :)

    +1

‘kin hate dark evenings. Sundown at 3pm… jog on.
If it wasn’t for the fact it was so damn cold, I would alternate between living at the north and south pole, just to get the 24hr sunlight.

I don’t watch tv, read newspapers, listen to the radio or anything, so wouldn’t know about this, but I may have to investigate it!

Thanks very much! Would you say that it is worth the £20?
It’s a good incentive to not cock-up your landings then I guess ;)

I switched a 90mm one for a 50mm deity stem a while ago, and it feels like I have much more control of the handlebars. I really like the change. Doesn’t look too strange either, which is good :)

dizcostix – I’m about 10 mins drive from Melbourn! Drop me an email if you feel like meeting up for a thetford (or local ride). I tend to do my rides on the spur of the moment too.

Bearded Dave – Thanks for sharing that link, I will check it out later when I have more time.

We will have to organise something then, as it seems there are quite a few of us east anglians up for a ride!

Luke and I are discussing a potential plan, and we’ll post something up soon to gague interest :)

Jimi – Feel free to drop me an email if you want to have a ride round Thetford or something :)

Mark: Thanks, is it ok to drop you an email about it or are all the details on Retrobike? My internet has decided that retrobike is going to be a very slow website at the moment :(

those green ones are NICE! But 400EUR!! Just because they are green!

Thanks Mark, I will take a look at Retrobike. I’m afraid my bike isn’t very retro though… ;)
I may stick out like a sore thumb! :P
Where abouts are you riding this sunday? I had loose plans to meet up with a friend (maybe 2 if his brakes are fixed!) for a ride around Thetford, but if the ride is elsewhere, I am sure I can drag them along :)

Edit: Just noticed on the site that it says Thetford :)

Thanks for the links Scootash and Jaz. I’m not up for night rides, as much as I would love to, I don’t have any retina-burning lights. If I took up night riding, I would be want to use NVGs just out of sheer over-the-top coolness!

Luke – I know the Histon area well as my good friends (adopted extended family) and my ex live in Girton. I don’t know how well I would get on well with doing rides that early as I am a bit of an insomniac and rarely get to sleep until about 4am anyway :?
I would probably be interested when it starts to get warmer and lighter earlier though :)

IMO you can never have too good a set of brakes. It’s better to have more than is necessary than find out the hard way that you are pushing the limits of your components. And who cares if they are overkill? If you like them, you like the price and they look sexy on your bike, go for it!!

Why don’t you just stay home, buy a hammer and repeatedly hit your legs with it? It’s a lot cheaper.

Do you not tend to get on too well with the axe murdurer types then? Shame :(

But seriously, its good to hear that there are some other people around here! I don’t actually live in Norwich but I commute from Cambridge every day, so is a doddle for me to get to.

I have a lot to fit in this weekend too unfortunately, but if you want to get some people together for a ride some time then drop me an email. Address is in my profile.

    Cheers

Doesn’t quite answer your question, but something I didnt realise until recently when someone else mentioned it on this forum is that the letters refer to the capabilities of the shock:

    R = Rebound
    RL = Rebound, lockout
    RLC = Rebound, lockout, compression

Not sure if that is of any help, but thought I would mention it just in case!

Oh, well in that case the Ride Ons are still an option, although still twice the price of the others I was considering.. Hmm…

Thanks for clarifying that for me, Neilneilorangepeel.

They are a bit out of cambridge, but try Rutland Cycling (based in Rutland or Grafham). They are the only shop that I know of anywhere near cambridge that actually sell REAL bikes and not crappy ones.
The people at Rutland Cycling are a great bunch of blokes (from my experience) and generally really helpful.

I am glad that you have been persuaded not to sell up! It’s a wise decision!

If you find yourself in Cambridgeshire or Norfolk, I would be up for a bit of a bike ride :)

Ah. from what I gathered, the kits only did one shifter…?

I also agree that you shouldn’t sell it.

I have had the same problem as you as a long time sufferer of depression, and I wanted to just sell up and get rid of everything. Thinking about it logically, I’m not sure why. I think it’s when you hit rock bottom and you end up having that “f*ck everything” attitude and just feel it is the right thing to do.

I am still having friends try to convince me not to sell up and to just hang in there.

Stick it out until summer when things will be much better anyway.

I have used biking as a means of escape from my depression. That’s why I am absolutely immersing myself in a custom build I am doing at the moment. It is costing me a fortune and to be quite honest, I can’t really afford it, but it is all that is keeping me from toppling down that slippery slope. It distracts me from reality and how dull and crappy my life is.

DON’T SELL!!! Instead, see if you can get together with some of the forum members and give that bike a damn good thrashing!! :-D

It will be £80 because they come in packs for £40 that will only do one shifter, and I need to do two shifters.

TandemJeremy – any chance of a link to this said gadget? :P

I am planning on having something of really decent performance, but at the same time, I find it hard to believe that I can get something of good performance and quality for less than £80. I just think that the cabling is probably something that if a £20 option works fine, then I will be a happy chappy. I think I’d prefer to try the flying snakes before the Ride Ons because if they work, then I would have saved £60.
Really value everyone’s opinions on all different cables though.

Might check out the LBS and see what they can offer me.
Thanks again chaps, I appreciate your input!

The only decent one local to me (well… local-ish…) is Rutland Cycling / Grafham Cycling. They just did a job for me on my rear brake, and the guy was nice enough to check over the rear shock for me as well, chuck in a carbon headset spacer as I was missing a spacer, and replace part of the hydraulic hose kit, all for less than he quoted me for in the first place!

As for anywhere else, I have been really impressed with orders I have made from Sowerby Bros and Noah’s Ark.

hmmm I value your opinions, and I don’t doubt that the gore kits are top notch, but I think it’s a bit too much for me, spending ~£80 on cables… :-s
