if you can fully protect your eyes from dust then I’d imagine they’d be fine.
using them with your current set up – no I think that’s best avoided.

surely preventing the dust getting in them even with current set up would be better,  if possible.

    @wukfit
I’ve been wearing lenses for 20+ years and shower in them every day. I’d stop showering if I had to take them out every time I needed a shower ! Swimmimg – never had a problem. Clearly head above the surface only if no goggles

@andy8442 Are you sure it’s the same engine? Isn’t that issue related to older Volvos on a 1.6 engine?

I’m asking because  I don’t know. Not heard of this issue until I’ve read these comments.

AA report (I wasn’t there when he attended)…

Member states vehicle loosing coolant and had to top up. Coolant level OK on arrival. No visual signs of leakPressure test coolant system – all ok, no pressure drop. Cap okRan vehicle up to pressure, coolant circulating ok, fans working ok. Advise member to keep eye on coolant level, if coolant level drops take straight to garage. Engine Oil Level Ok. Coolant Level Ok.

    Thanks.
i’ll run it tonight , get it up to temp and see if it behaves.

@timba no change. Car is serviced. Did several hundred  miles last week at half term without issue. Oil level is fine.
it actually ran ok the night before this started because the wife was out in it for an hour.

    @mashr
absolutely so AA have topped it up now and I’ll watch it but my concern is around it disappearing in the first place. Seems odd.  Maybe i just have t noticed but I’m not used to coolant just disappearing.

good suggestion to stick  a bottle in the car 👍🏻

I emailed the help section on the ch4 app and they responded:

“Currently HD content on Channel 4 streaming is only available (rights permitting) through Sky on Demand.  Where no HD version is available, programmes will be available on standard definition. We do hope to provide HD content across our other platforms at a later date”

Possible it’s upscaling? Mine is not in HD when viewing it. Clear to see.

Now realised that the HD sign in on the iPad app is not highlighted but on my friends tv it is. So for some reason we just don’t have it in HD at all. Can’t quite figure out why!

Just to close this out. After plenty of too and fro’ing between the XM4 and XM5 I’ve gone for a pair of XM5’s. They’re a Birthday present so they’ve not been opened  yet – that’ll be next week.

i paid £299 for them last week but noticed today that they’ve been reduced to £279 (I’ve blagged my £20 refund from currys this morning 😁) and the XM4’s are now £199 which seems a really good price if anybody is looking for some.

3 years ago I got my wife a weighted blanket and she still says it’s the best present she’s ever had.
    sleeps under it every night,
pretty sure it was a ‘Koala weighted blanket’.

Done it twice. Totally random regarding selection. And just because you get selected and end up in a court room, you could still be sent back.
    Take a book, some snacks.
I got cases on both occasions and loved seeing how it all worked.

I guess if they last me as long as the Sammy slicks I shouldn’t complain so point taken!

    Looking at 700×35

    I’m not saying they’re a good price. I’m saying they’re approx £100 cheaper than XM5’s

Sounds like a beast @bedmaker. Think the one i just got is 76kg and that’s a lump!

Had to tighten up all the Allen key bolts on mine up which has make a huge difference .

The only issue I have is the display. It isn’t bright enough (maybe the backlight is kaput – if they have one) and I can’t seem to access the settings function in it so having trouble correlating  the distance that the display is showing

Thanks again @augustuswindsock … that worked out well! Treadmill collected, will give it a try tomorrow.

Thanks also to @bedmaker for starting the thread! I notice your recently deceased treadmill was a pro-form which is what I’ve just bought. Looks to be >10 yrs old and having spoken to the owner it’s had no maintenance. Did you ever lubricate your belt?

(Open question) Is it the case that all treadmill belts should be regularly lubricated?

No harm in asking! Cheers @augustuswindsock

    i work in Hartlepool.

Is she has an idea of price too. Don’t know if you can PM me on here but happy for you to do that if need be

If be interested to know what treadmill it is @augustuswindsock. I’m local .
I’d be looking for something pretty robust with a good max speed and incline etc.  suitable for a 6’ bloke

I’ve not used it but I have read that the Argos machine is decent for the money.

Cable is short at 2m though but given It’s usually <£50 you’d just need some pads and compound/polish to get started

@mattyfez yes he is doing it all the time.

my comment about him walking upstairs was just to make the point of just how frequent it has become.

It’s not once on 5 or 10 minutes – it’s much much more regular than that.

Looks like the doctors is the first port of call

When he’s at home there’s nothing that stops him doing it. When I say it’s gotten pretty much non stop I mean just that. 6 times just walking up the stairs! Meal times, in the car, watching TV.

i assume it continues at school but I don’t know how much. At parents evening a few nights ago we mentioned it and his teacher has noticed it.  He’s going it at after school because his sister tells me he is. As I say, non stop now .
Having thought it would have died out well before now I’m now finding it quite concerning .

Sorry – I should clarify that this is not a mucus / blocked nose related sniff.

@ransos has said it could be a tic. Now that sounds more likely. Clearly I don’t know that for sure but seeing how bad this has got that could be a reasonable assumption. it’s been several weeks now and I had hoped it’d pass but maybe it’s time for a visit to the doctors.

After spending all of my childhood in Volvo Estates the inevitable has happened – I’ve turned into my dad . Just got a V60 R Design Plus (D3) in Savile grey and I absolutely love it! Here’s Hoping it does me as well as some of the cars on this thread …

Thanks for the replies. Bit of a mixed bag but a decision has been made..
I’ve been to see a couple. One had not been particularly well looked after so that was a wasted 2 hr round trip. Disappointing given it was a Volvo select car and ‘only the best are selected by us ‘.
However the second car was the complete opposite . 2020 car Supplied and serviced by the dealer. 1 owner. Immaculate. D3 – drove beautifully. More than enough pull. Hopefully it’ll last me!

I have had a 2016 1.6 blue hdi exclusive for just over 6 years now. Just hit 73k. I am planning to change it soon for something younger. It’s done it’s job of ferrying 2 young kids and 2 dogs around.
Overall it’s been good.  Couldn’t really complain about it.  Regularly 55-60mpg day to day.
The only real issue we’ve had was related to the ad blue tank.  there is/was a common problem with the caps on the tanks that ought to have been a recall but wasnt since it wasn’t a safety issue. Not sure which years are affected.
I was told I needed a new tank. Total cost about £1300. Forum posts I found suggesting contacting Citroen so I Found a number online for Citroen uk to open a complaint. The car went to a dealer and Citroen agreed to pay 67% of the cost.

so if the car you’re looking at is 2016/2017 with >60k on it it may be worth checking.

also had the battery changed and now when  I lock it the alarm goes off. Not sure if there was a procedure the garage ought to have followed when they changed it but it’s not ideal. As I say,  hoping to sell it soon but yeah – it hasn’t been a bad car.

electric handbrake is fine. It has hill assist  so it doesn’t roll soon as it’s released .

It does shorter journeys now in my dads hands, barring the recent trip to Wales but as I said, there are no lights on the dash. If it were DPF related you’d expect so? And would that cause issues starting the car?

it was serviced recently and I believe he changed the fuel filter himself.  I did ask him if it’s been fitted properly as I’m sure the problem started around that time but I’d need to confirm that with him.

I’ll need to let him read all of this so he can take a look at some of the things you’ve mentioned @RustyNissanPrairie

Many thanks for your input , and everybody else who has contributed so far. Much appreciated

@RustyNissanPrairie the local Volvo Indy told him to take it to Volvo so that’s what he did.
when the car is running its faultless. He did 600 miles to wales and back on holiday in it 3 weeks ago.  Ran perfectly. The car runs absolutely fine apart from getting the thing to start on cue.

he bought the car a year ago so high mileage, looking at MOT history it’s been doing 25-30k a year for the past few years so a motorway monster I’d guess

@RustyNissanPrairie it’s been to the dealer and been on diagnostics. I don’t know which system – Do they have different systems?

I’ll recommend what I run in but they seem a very popular choice for a neutral show

    brooks ghost.

You can probably still get a pair of the previous incarnation (Ghost 14’s) in the sale if you shop around. I get mine from Start Fitness

new balance are still popular but i don’t understand all the model numbers

Rough guess I’d say anything from 10-20 people, 5/6 tents, male and female runners. A few campsite drinks on the night (or pub if nearby) – not a loud music, party all night kind of group.

I run in Brooks Ghost and change them at around 35-400 miles. I just buy two pairs of the previous version in the sale when they bring the new one out and rotate them.

Start fitness has a BH 10% off at the moment so you can get a pair for £63 which is a bit of bargain.

Chatted to a couple a few months ago who had a dog in a pair of boots from this place. Seems they were really pleased with them
And the dog seemed happy enough

Petplan. Not the cheapest but considering they paid out 23k for my dog from 2014-2023 without any hassle whatsoever (or upfront payments) they get my recommendation.

Sorry to hear about the dog. Hope it makes a full recovery.

Thanks to this post making me realise how much space I’d save storing our bikes vertically I have ended up here.

Multitude of options out there but I ended up with some bike specific hooks from Screwfix and I thought I’d try the Hiplock Jaws for the kids bikes which seem absolutely excellent.

@docrobster do you hang the bikes off those hooks or is the rear wheel sat on the floor so the wall hook is in effect just holding the bike vertical?
    Can they work either way?

I Like the look of the steady racks and ability to pivot the bikes but at £75 a pop and I need 4 it’s a bit of a no-go right now so I’m just looking at cheaper fixed solutions.

This thread has convinced me to wall mount the bikes. Currently sat in a floor rack (2x adult, 2 kids) but having just checked how much space I’d save wall mounting them I’m now also looking at the best (and not too expensive) options.

    Another Nilfisk recommendation here.

This is worth a look. I bought my dad one from here and it’s been great. Think I paid an extra fiver to extend the warranty.
