If you do Skiddaw in the afternoon then youll need to leave town by 3 at the very latest. Itll take you 1 1/2 – 2 hours up taking it steady, the hardest bit is the walk from the gate at the bottom of Jenkin Hill to the top. You can then ride behind Little Man to the last gate, then it`s another walk. 😥

(Though i have cleared the lot twice )

Take a desent light with you as you may be in the dark near the bottom, assuming you`ll do Ullock?

I just hope the weather holds for you! 🙄

You could get a good while as you would probably switch off for a bit when the cabin was hot, that would last say 20/30 mins and then repeat to top up.

My 719s have been excellent over the last 2 1/2 years, theyve withstood all that the north lakes can throw at them, you`ll get a pair for £100.

I had a Lemond TVT carbon “team issue” frame from the 1990 TDF. They were the early ones that were carbon tubes bonded to alu lugs.

It was still going 19 years 😯 later when i eventually parted with it on e-bay 😥 and it still looked MINT….. 😛

You could look at the Ribble winter bike. Good value for money and they seem quite popular.

And so different to what we do in Surrey that a side by side comparison is pointless. Apples and oranges………

It sure is, not that ive ever rode my bike arround Surrey, but weve had visitors come out with us and they are wipped after 10 miles of our terrain, saying thats like doing 25 miles where were from! 😉

Another 1 for Hopes here……By far the easiest to servive/get parts for. No probs with power or overheating, and i live in the North Lakes where we regulary do 2.5/3000ft decents. Only changed the oil in mine once in 2 years and using the sintered pads they barley make any noise in the wet, (belive me it`s been REALLY WET here latley).

Others in our group are on Avids…they have issuse and those that are on Shimanos are awfully noisey, especially in the wet.

However, i cant compare them to Avid/Shimano on a personal level as i`ve never used them

Its been biblical here in the North Lakes for a while now…..and most of this week its been stormy as well.

Skiddaw summit on NY day and we could`nt stand up (while our bikes were lifting off the ground sideways)and we got wet n cold on tuesday night as well……

And its still blowing a hooley right now! Im getting a little fed up of getting wet n cold….after all, there`s only so much the w.proofs will keep out…. 😐

Chuffin good lights though Chris…. 🙂

I`m all for following the rules……., but it so happened that as i was riding i was therefore 1st to the gate and so had to open it myself…..No stopping for a breather either……
It still counts in my book! 😉

Differnt story yesrerday though…….The obligitory hangover ride of new year and i only got to the first bend after the bottom gate 😳 😳

Some days its there, and some days its not 🙄

Worst wind i`ve ever been it at the summit 🙄

I run a Lib and it`s awsome. 1700 measured lumens, not too wider beam and throws a nice ammount of light down in front of the wheel. 😛

    Ive never been near a Max d, so i cant compare….sorry! 😉

The Libs are priced at £230 in his sale at the mo.

Yes it is wet up here, the ground cannot soak any more up and you`ll find yourself riding through small streams all the time on the trails and any grassy stuff is totally waterlogged…… 😥

Just makes it hard work……. 😉

Ive a pair of Specs SPD`s you can have….They are a 42 (8) have no cleats or M buckle cos the stiching where they attach has come adrift…Perhaps a toe/velcro strap arround the shoe would do the job????. Anyway, your welcome to them and i can send a pic over if you want. 😛
