We`ve allways gone for the Hotrock as they have the lowest standover height,(none of our kids are tall),and they are good value as well.

Ok, said story goes like this….

As is the norm, post ride beers and ride home. We leave the pub and my mate just catches the kirb and falls off, his light catching the kirb and “broke”. He later tells us that he “tried” to sort it when he got home and totally wrecked it. 🙄
Sent it off to Hope with a letter describing exactly what had happened (being a little pissed ect) and guess what???

They sent it back all fixed FOC ! 😀

Gone from a Ti 456 (which i crashed off in Feb and didnt ride it again) till now, Got the HDR….warning, colourful content!!!! 😆

Oh My !!! what a hoot…..Never mind the 6 months off the MTB it was just like nothing had ever happened. It climbs great, so much grip and allthough a little tentative at first soon was hooning down stuff and taking lines that would have upset the other bike. The sheer difference in speed is ridiculous!!!! 😯

What do ya mean heavy????. My Ti 456 was 26+lb… and no individual component was heavy on its own. I`m now on an HDR 650, 1X11… 28ib…. That is not heavy!

Mark?, earlier you did the Bash first on the grand day out. Just wondering if you did the normal bash (from the books) or the Proper Bash, (not published )

Looking up the ridge to the top, off to the right is Hobcarton End and it is a good descent. Loose st the top, bare left over the old wall then into “no mans land”. Here there is NO given path, just a wide expanse of fairly large lumps that you can get a little air from, but watch out cos it drops quite steep into a short “scree” with a few zig zags and then you do a little climb up to a stile.
Then it gets quite good…..Fork right and into a fairly steep “follow the rut” down through the heather/bracken al the way down to a real nasty boggy bit and into the very dark/slippery tunnel of trees, and out onto the fireroad just above the 2 way section of red route.

Or, you can simply go up the main ridge, turn round and come back down what is probably the 2nd best descent in the area, forking right and down the flank (above the Force Grag track), over the stile into the ST and down those tricky steps into the car park just above Braithwaite.

    Job Done…..

It is the BW/Foot path up the front/side of Latrigg, a real nasty start to a ride as it is steep in 2 short sections, (there is no time to “warm up” before you get there).
The road to the car park is a nasty little climb from Applethwaite…..

Skiddaw & Ullock…..12 miles round and you`ll be knacked afterwards. 😉

Forget about “up Dodd/Carlside” Carliside is a crackin descent in it`s self.

Go up Spooney to the car park, round the fence and(Pedal if you can/shove) up Jenkin Hill and not quite to the summit you then descend the scree and bare right onto Ullock.
Arguably the best descent in the north west. IMO 😛

If you happen to be here at a w.end then well show you? Otherwise itll be a Tues night but you WILL NEED a good set of lights/ sense of humour…..

They didnt catch on that well back in 89 (or there abouts)I had one and got rid fairly quickly, just didnt like it……If you have a nice pedal action then you do not need an oval ring!

This was down Newlands towards Buttermere during the Townened Challenge 2013.

60mph down Dunmail Raise, 55mph down Semnoz towards Annecy and a few other place with fairly high speds…

    Off road….

38mph off the side of Grizdale pike 😛 (the grassy bit) and 45mph off the northern side of Blencathra (Foule Crag) in the icey snow when it went a wee bit wrong!!!! 😥

Fractured my Fibula last Sunday 8O. Was an Ace ride though, pushing my new Ibis HDR really hard and giggleing like a little girl, then had to make a very abrupt dissmount and clobbered my leg against a rut…then squeeled like a stuffed pig…. 😉

I have to say that the Strava app on my android phone has been very accurate. Compared to the computer mouted on the bars, accross 3 bikes(which are all based on exact wheel circ), the Strava was within a couple of decimal points on distance and ave speed.

There have been (only a few) Strava fails on my device…..so, i ca`nt complain! 😉

What I meant was that you take one (get rid over there) and fetch one back. You’ll be taking a bag/box with you anyway and Virgin Atlantic did’nt charge for “sports equipment” on the plane. Leaving the states they wanted to open the box to swab for chemicals and did’nt even look at the bike. From our customs point of view, you have taken a bike with you and brought one back. They did’nt check at all….

    It’s worth a thought. I saved 2k.”..

Whinlatter Blue is good for kids…. Yes there are a few “bits” that they may find difficult, ( uphills and deep berms ), but there`s nothing too techy. First time i took my 2 eldest they loved it!

    Skolt said it!

You`ll never do Latrigg, skiddaw UP and back round onto Blencathra….They are both seperate rides in themselves…..
Skiddaw and UP is roughly 12 miles and we do it in 2 21/2 hrs.
Blecathra round (inc down to the tarn) approx 14 miles and we do it in roughly 2 1/4 hrs.

As for latrigg on its own… you can kill a couple of hours on there alone. Thete are loads of traks dotted all over the “front” and to the raer (eatsern side) and if you have a reasonable sense of direction you can link them all up without a map!

But then its easy for me to say that cos i live right in front of it! 😉

I did what the OP wants to do….

We were going to Florida back in May, so i looked at what was arround over there. Found an Ibis HDR (650b) and arranged that if i bought it it could be delivered to the hotel we were staying in. No probs there so i bought it…..
From here i got hired a bike box from the LBS and found a “scrapper” to take with me, took it to a scrap place over there and fetched the new one back.
No taxes/charges what so ever and saved 2k 😛

How it arrived at the hotel

If your rear light is effective then you do not need bar end lights….

Its like overtaking a lorry at night… You make the move past the rear red lights and then are greeted by few amber ones????
