The XX1 Grip Shift comes with it`s own grips, running it on my HDR…..

I have ran GS for almost 20 years (back then it was Sachs Wavey), cos I tore half my right thumb off on a machine and so can`t use triggers, even new ones that are quite light to use still pose a problem after a short while.

Back to GS, never had a “ghost/mis shift” as you get used to more/less grip to change gear and the new XX1 have wide grips, so your hand naturally stays away from the shifter and it`s a quick flick to change gear……

    Hope this helps! 😛

    No clicking in my case….

    Pace 305 SS

While riding and upto speed there was a vibrating sound, Of course there are no cables could cause this and I checked over the bike, bolts were nipped etc…. I couldn’t find out what it was……

Lived with it till I got home, went to check the pad springs and there it was, rear caliper, a small stone resting on top of the pads nestled in nicely between them and the retaining bolt

    🙄 had a little giggle…..

    What they all said!!!! 😛

We did it from Harrop Tarn on a boiling hot day,it had been a nice dry spell and so it was quite easy. Still a few wet/boggy bits though. Very boring part of the ride……

Apparently it is usually one of the wettest walks in the Lakes

Front mechs can be the worst thing to set up on a bike…. Yours sounds like new cable time!.

Sadly it can happen anywhere and anytime in this country.

We got caught out summer 2013. 5 of us Left Keswick with blue sky and 23c, pedalled over to Buttermere to meet +1, (plan was Red Pike). Round the back of the lake some cloud, and a very slight drizzle upto Scarth Gap. Jackets on then!!!! (always carry it) and we carried on into what became one of the worst “blowing a hoolie” I`ve ever encountered. The wind being too strong to ride across the tops and was lifting the bike up off the ground, and v poor visibility.
We ended up bailing into the big bowl off High Stile (where there is no path), towards Bleaberry Tarn, and down to Buttremere, + the ride back home……

Top 3 of my “worst ever” rides….

The weather here can change very quickly indeed….. 😥

The “much” older Hope olives were notched, NOT spaced…. therefore you had to slice the notch through with a fine blade hacksaw.

The current ones are just fine to use again, just give them a gentle nudge with a flat blade screwdriver…….

    Sorted!

XX1, 28 up front, 42 rear. North Lakes, so you all know how hilly it is up here!!!!

BTW, the front ring is starting to “hook” and not letting go of the chain cleanly, only 6 months in….

    Buy Hope Brakes instead….

You will never have an issue with “getting a spare part”

Let us know what it`s like?,

We bailed at Carlside Tarn (and went down Carlside) a week ago as the snow was very questionable…., However, it has been mild with a little rain since then….

Enjoy!!, It is THE BEST! 😆

Cant confirm the ERD, but they are nice rims. Lighter than Flow EXs (although not as wide).

    These are mine…..

They have stood up to the worst of North Lakes sharp slate/rock very well ! 😀

Keswick Bikes are selling these from their “hire fleet” for £350

    http://www.specialized.com/gb/gb/bikes/mountain/pitch/pitch-sport-650b

I got one for one of my boys… We`ve always liked Spec bikes as good value for money and this one is no exception. + they have only had light use and well maintained, Ours is immaculate as it happens and £200 off retail!!!

    😀

    My alltime fav!,

However, judging by the remote pockets of snow there are in other places, Ullock will be tricky in places, but a giggle non the less!

I`m one of those “few” that Gav mentioned….cleared it…Up as well!

Seriously though, there will be some pockets of “unrideable” snow as some of the track is North facing….. 😯

Never had anything else but Hope brakes, Ever since the original C2s back in 98!. They are the easiest to work on, get parts for and they work! ie the more you pull the lever the more they stop (up to the point of skidding)
    Unlike the Shimano On/Off……. 😉

It’ll be just fine…. All the snow in Whinlatter was rideable last night

    I really feel for ya Tony…… 😥

I`ve had this happen to me with a brand new frame bb build. Pace RC305 (remember them!!!) and a Royce square taper (Yes a Royce!!)

So, what did I not do….. have the threads chased to remove any anodizing that may have been there. drive side went in ok, the non went in roughly 1/3, got a little tight by hand and so got the tool out. Approx 1 1/2 turns later it was jammed solid and would not budge. 😯

After pacing up and down/cursing for a few mins I knew the only way was to cut the cup out of the frame (something I have done before)

    Here goes,

You need a good standard hack saw blade and preferably a handle to hold it in (or tape round the end to grip) and start cutting. The aim is to make 2 cuts to form a 1/4 segment and working your way through (be patient) and when your almost through take gentle slower cuts and you can hear the difference between the cup and when the blade just touches the frame threads and STOP!!! ❗

Once done then all you need is to break out the 1/4 piece and then the rest will come out quite easily. 8)

I`ve actually done this 3 times over my 26 years of “fettling with bikes” one was with a Ti frame as well….. 😯

Just wish I ad some pics to show!

I went from a very low 20 (compact drive)/34 double to 1X11. So now have 28/42 (XX1) and my lowest sits between my old 1st/2nd gear, all worked out curtosey of Sheldon Brown….. 😛

I got a small one, roughly £50 and it does sort of work but only if the chain is lighly soiled, i.e, months of baked on oily grime will not wash off.
I used it a few times but now reverted back to the plastice tub and paraffin/white spirit and long handle scrubber….

    From Glenridding?

Go up Kepple Cove (passed the YH),at the top turn left, up to the summit…. Then on the way down go past K.C, down towards the “crossroads” and turn RIGHT down Sticks…
When you get to a kinda “no mans land” (quarry), take the right fork down the mine track back to Glenridding.

    Job Done…. 😛

How long is it taking before it goes too soft….

Just got a full sus at the end of the summer, pumped the rear upto 175 psi, and thought on Tusday night this week, “hmmm that feels a little soft”

The first one i got second hand (off here) was the “older” version wich after use for 5 years only just made a slight mark on the steerer….Not an issue as far i could tell.
Since then i have them in all my bikes, the latest inset 3 in the Ibis was an absolute dream to fit, and after the initial bed in (after a couple of rides) has bee faultless and super smooth.

Go get 1….. Aspire Velotech !.

I read and posted in that thread….

Yes you can buy a Chinese light for £30 with no overcharge/discharge protection in the battery/charger and take a chance that it does`nt explode. You might get lucky and get one that lasts a while….

Or, you could buy something like the Hope R4, ( i ended up paying £125) and rest in the knowlegde that it`ll be just great.
