On a similar note it reminds me of an “incident” we experienced a boiling hot summers day a couple of years ago.

We had ridden from town, up and over Sticks Pass and were on our way back up kepple Cove when Jamie and I clocked a bloke running down towards us. “runner coming” and as we moved to the side looked up again, did a double take. Now you couldn’t help but notice the flip flap, flip flap motion 😳

“Hes got nowt on” 😯 (other than a small camel back/ rucksack) …. At this point he`s right in front of us, “Afternoon” (as you do!!!), but what really made us laugh was that he felt he had to explain himself and as he went past he held aloft his shorts which were clutched in one hand and said

    “They were chafing” 😆

There`s now 3 in our local group, ridden hard as well (North Lakes), the oldest is a year old and no issues what so ever…..

I`d buy one if I was in the market for a new bike….. 😛

    OP,

I have the HDR, in Cobra Blue….

I`ve had it nearly 12 months and coming from ah HT it certainly is a revelation……Yes it is shorter, but you get used to it…and then realise how nimble it is……

I am running it as 650b, “only” 130mm rear, but it is enough, if you want my Strava times!!!!!

I have to be Honest though.

I only got the Ibis as I was in Florida last year and picked it up over there (slightly long story)

I would throw a spanner in the works and say this…. If I hadn’t gone to Florida, I would have bought the YT Capra!

6 years on my current set and only now they are showing signs of wear, This is North lakes as well……

Never warped one and they do get very hot indeed 😯

Bent one slightly after contact with a rock, but it straightened easily….

    Like what warns74 said……

I had Biopace back I 89, I was only 19, got rid and never used it since….. 😛

If you have a genuine “nice” smooth pedal rotation then you dont need it. Theres a reason it has been 25 years since!. ❗

Just my opinion and not actual fact (cos then I can`t be sued for slander!) 8)

That’s the whole point of Hopes IMO . You can “feather” them, a slight squeeze means very little actual braking, but the harder you pull the more you stop!

But they are GOOD!, My last set, (still got them) were 5 years old and had been totally submerged in water etc lots of times. Only just normal servicing required and no bearings replaced.

    Anyway,

I have a set of Ibis own build, Stans Flow EX, on Speed tuned hubs 142 rear/15 front. Sram XD drive.
In as new condition with tyres £275 posted.

I live locally and I have never paid on the car park (cos its a rip off)
They cant enforce a fine cos its the National Trust, but pay if you wish…
DO NOT PARK ON THE ROAD COS YOU BLOCK IT CAUSING A HAZZARD FOR EVERYONE ELSE.

BTW, it`ll be a complete mud fest….. Enjoy!

I totally agree, there is nothing round here I didn’t ride on the HT (and not far behind the FS riders), however, now on the FS, its much., much faster…..

But hurts more when it goes wrong. 😥

I was an HT rider till late last year. FS is harder to pedal generally, but they do have more grip when climbing, especially on techy stuff. But point them down, hang on and enjoy…… 😯

They are sooooo much faster……… 😉

Im a Hope man myself. I ran a Mono M4 front, Mini rear on my old HT. Now run Tech 3 E4s (they are really good)on the full suss, that`s in the North lakes.

If you don`t have steep hills (like us) then the X2s will be just fine. if you ride a few steep fairly long descents then the E4.s

You are correct, TP is expensive!!!!, I was making a generalisation!!!!, inside is fine, outside NO!

    stoney

I disagree with the marine/standard ply compare. It is NOT twice the price…… Only the other day I had a guy in the w.shop wanting to re bed his flat bed truck. pricing up the ply at 18mm thick was £29+ vat (from TP) and the marine £43+ vat from a different supplier a difference of £15. No brainer as the ordinary ply wont last 5 mins outside, I know this for fact (I`ve been in the trade for 26yrs…..) even painted, the ordinary stuff WILL de laminate within 1/2 years.

Go with the marine ply for anything outside!

Ton, Also I think 4×4 is a little overkill for the framework. As mentioned 3×2/4×2 will be ample, you can then insulate between with “extra therm” or similar!

    Hope this helps. 😛
