jules your new so i’ll be gentle , was your first car a ferrari? by a cheap hardtail and then sell it after a while you might be an accomplished cyclist but your still a beginner at off road a hardtail will teach you how to pick lines, ride smoothly understand the impact of the trail on your momentum when you have learnt these things buy a full suss. riding a full suss from the off will make you a lazy , less skillfull rider

Well sitting on the bike you probably want about 30% travel loss altogether but everybody has their preferences,so when the front of the bike is lifted up the wheel stays in contact with the ground , suspension is there to improve traction not as some people i have spoke to make the ride more comfy , thats just a bi product.

had a similar problem setting up mu 454 dual airs first of all forget the figures on the fork you need to do it while on a ride , secondly when your putting your pump on dont screw it all the way just enough to get it to read pressure on the pump and half turn more. Check the pressure then unscrew the pump, rescrew the pump back on and check the pressure again you’ll probably find a 10-20 psi loss, do this a few times to get an average of the pressure loss on both + and – chambers. Then pump up the positive to start go for the max for your weight on the fork leg than maybe 10psi more on the -ve chamber i reckon you want about 10-20% travel loss while not sitting on the bike . Then am afraid you just need to go for a proper ride and get it set up right for you alter the +ve chamber first then -ve making sure to take into account the loss when unscrewing the pump. Simples 😀

Well i would be limited myself to about £1k for a steel frame couldnt really justify anymore and even that seems a hell of lot as i already have a good full susser. Maybe i should concentrate on finding the best angles / set up for me and seeing what is the closest production bike , but Brant if you want my dimensions (oh er missus) to put into a prototype let me know. On greater consideration i think that i could only justify a custom frame if i built it myself.

the difference would be better performance , what do you mean by performancei hear you say! well efficiency , control, comfort i suppose.

Ive read that you can manipulate steel tubes to give for example a more supple/ stiff ride. But then for all i know the perfect frame for me could be being made in china. Are there any CAD programs that you can use to give the correct measurements or does this require discussions with a framebuilder. But if you aint gonna buy the frame they aint gonna work out the measurements for you.

Ideally i would like to learn how to build my own frame but there arent many courses and Yates is booked up till 2010

Agree with Gavin Bs advice but as others have mentioned depends on how it has been stored or used . If in doubt i probably buy a new one .

IIRC you can’t ride all the way to the top of Win Hill from Hope Cross, only about 2/3 of the way up.

Cheers but you can ride all the way from the top down though , thats the best bit. 😀

    Hi keith

my muslim women comment was unfair , it was a bt of a joke in response to all the “racist” threads on here recently. I agree that when the peak is busy we need to be careful, i am certainly not the type of rider who goes speeding up to walkers but i do get the feeling we are much more tolerant of them than they are of us.

Anyway thinking of heading up bleaklow / crowden way ive heard its much quieter up there so if anyone knows any good routes.

Might see you on the hills keith

Yes i’d definatley stop well done that man .

Nzcol thats the exact reason i would never move to London this sort of thing makes me so mad, someones health less important than getting to work on time these people are so self centered i hope one day that it is them in trouble and lets see how their priorities change.

i find that some walkers will deliberatley block you others will get out the way / talk to you etc i tend to slow down till they notice and then go past , i did nearly hit a women at firholmes who stepped out in front of me on the road some walkers do appear to be in a world of their own. I like to ride in the evening after about 4/5 get trails to myself just out interest can you ride all the way up to the top of win hill or from hope cross.

i dont think people should dictate how and when people use the countryside within the confines if the law, i am a walker, climber and mtber and used to be a 4×4 (till someone nicked my landrover) in the peaks and should be allowed to use the countryside whenever i choose wearing what ever i want, should muslim women be asked to remove their vails when encountering walkers??? There are far more footpaths than bridleways, more bridleways than greenlanes yet the group that has the most access to the countryside and fought (literally) for their right to roam is the group that tries most to limit other peoples access to it.

Mass Ride up kinder on footpaths anyone?

I found it harder to get my front end up on my spot , running a 90mm stem and pikes especially at low speed on the flip side at speed i found that when getting the weight back in a coaster wheelie type of way the bike is very stable and controlable. havent really looked at the geometry so could’t give you any tech answers but have found that i have adapted to the bike quite quickly . the bike performs much better at speed and overall is by far the best bike ive ever ridden let alone owned.
