you can only go so far up the site ladder before the reach top, with the right aptitude and attitude an office job (depending what office job you decide on of course) will see you go much further in life. And you wont be breaking your back doing it!

Rubbish…….. I started out as an apprentice to an office fitting firm (partitions and suspended ceilings). Started doing Joinery work on the side to earn a little extra cash. This seemed to be going well so went to study at uni for 3 years and gained a BA(hons) in furniture design while still working in my spare time (you get a lot at uni!!).

Took on a part time job at a boat yard and learnt more skills fitting out narrow boats and cruisers. Now run my own business designing and building bespoke furniture to commision aswell as fitting out all manner of boats and water craft.

I'm 26 and life is good. Sitting in an office all day would kill me….. although I do have a bad back

Hard work and some good contacts is all it takes…..

Oxalic acid removes Iron stains pretty well or a half ‘n’ half mix of alcohol and thinners. With both you’ll have to remove the finish from the area first so as to allow the stuff to get into the timber……. If that all fails mix all three, drink in quantity and wait for the darkness to come

Oh really GG……????? Best go and check all those hundreds of wall units I’ve fitted over my many years as a cabinet maker…… bugger :D

Sorry TJ if I’m reading that right, then that would be more or less completely useless. It’s the top of the wall unit which pulls away from the wall, not the bottom.

Nope. TJ is right, the baton along the base will support the weight of the cupboard plus contents. The fixing at the top of the cupboard will stop the cupboard coming away from the wall but will take no real strain.

Studs will be at either 400/500/600mm centres and therefore are not easily ‘lined’ up for fixing purposes unless you want uneven spacings….

Yep, they are the dogs……. I work in a boatyard and have to remove alot of screws/bolts that have been submerged in salty water for years :?

Mine are similar in shape to a tap (threading tool not a water giver) with a square drive on the non business end. I use a tap wrench to drive the little fella’s as this gives the most control. I’d recommend drilling a pilot hole, slightly smaller than the extractor threads, it makes it alot easier to gain purchase. Clamp your cranks down to, don’t want them spinning away into your man area

Bootfairs are a good place to look for them, old stuff, but generally the older the tool the better it is (better steel, made to last)

Don’t bodge it, you’ll make a mess of your kit and your tools. Do it properly the firsst time and save yourself time/money/injury/stress.
    Good luck chap

Get some screw extractors (couple ‘o’ quid from screwfix). drill a hole in bolts, screw in extractors (reverse thread = anticlockwise screwing action  ) …… and keep winding the little bugger.

et viola, bolts out ont cheap

Hmmmmm…….. If you whack them with a hammer bits of tiny tile will go everywhere……. gently tap a chisel down the back of the tile and just ease them off, it’s pretty quick and less likely to take the plaster with it. Then with a sharp-ish chisel or a scraper get rid of any tile adhesive left on the wall.

    simples :D

Indeed…… surely you should just look where your going!?? Trying to gain compensation for what was partly your fault will only take funds away from the council to actually fix the problem. You wouldn’t try to get compensation from mother nature if you dinged a rim on a tree root?!
Use your eyes and biking skills to avoid urban hazards as you would when out on the trail…..
