Definitely southern Spain. Catalunya regon still warm at that tie of year, further south even warmer. Flights to Barcelona are cheap (although EasyJey/Ryanair are a nightmare with hidden charges when travelling with a bike). Out of season means plenty of cheap apartments/villas to rent. Venturing a bit off the tourist trail means chea food, drin=k and other stuff.

CatEye rears are consistently good, and seem to last better than most other brands I’ve tried. USB recharcahble not an issue; use rechargable batteries if you’re that fussed, as a pair of AA/AAAs are dirt cheap and last for weeks.

Asuggestion if you use canal towpaths or similar; don’t use a mega-bright light, as someone following/overtaking you will be dazzled by them, and there’s no need for something that bright on such paths.

Rejecting it does seem the better option. There are many people for whoman allotment offers a bit of peace and quiet, and to occupy themselves with something productive. They can reallly help with a person’s mental and physical well-being. giving someone else a go if you can’t commit, is a decent thing to do.

I like Tesco. It’s convenient, and they got the online grocery/click+collect thing nailed before many others.

I’m not surprised; you spend so much time on this forum, I doubt you have any time to do an real shopping. Click and collect must be manna from heaven for oyu. reay meal for one again is it? 😉

Fortunately we don’t need to shop at supermarkets. Our local shops wil get stuff in for us specally, if we ask for it. We even have stuff grown of rus. 8)

I don’t like the quality fresh food and meat they sell.

That;s because they don’t sell fresh food and meat…

Living Colour? Christ. I’m amazed anyone woud want to own any of their crap, let alone actualy own it! 😯

I don’t own a copy of Pink Floyd’s Piper At The Gates Of Dawn. Which is utterly stupid on my part.

Well, I meant that a CSC with a prime might be a better quality option than a bridge camera with a mega-zoom. The way to better photography is though developing better photographic skills, not having ‘al the gear’ or a ‘do it all’ camera.

Maybe if the roads were safer, they’d use them instead. Motor vehicles are our worst enemy always. 🙁

What is the speed limit on the towpath?

We do not stipulate speed limits on the towpath as these cannot be enforced. Visitors should use common sense, with primary consideration for pedestrians, especially if running or cycling. At busy times we advise anyone in a hurry should use alternative routes.

I don’t understand the fuss over the recent vacuumcleaner power reduction thing. Our Henry is 1200w max,yet much more efficient thant the 1600w Black and Decker crap it replaced.

City and chelsea are kicking on from last season, and will hope to improve inany weak areas with their new signings (such as scoring for Chelsea!), Brendan Rodgers will be rebuilding things following Suarez’ departure, but seems to have a very good formula, and Arsenal will simply stay the same typically frail Arsene Venger side; lots of skill, bt not enough steel to really dominate tems who provide tough opposition. Spurs should be better under Pochetino, but don’t actually know how to win stuff as they have no recent experience of doing so. Everton will continue to be ‘plucky’ battlers capable of causing a few upsets. Utd? They need to concentrate on not slipping any lower than last season. Someone like Swansea, Southampton or Even Villa might come nipping at their heels!

And the Glazers are still there, making the club for all its worth.

Utd will have struggled to buy anyone without theGLazers’ involvment. they’re the reason Utd continued to remain successful until very rcently. And if you don’t like them, why not go and suport FC United instead? 😉

Bridge cameras are the most heavily compromised in terms of lensquality and overall performance,as they’re designed as jack of all trades cameras. That’s not to say they’re not good, but the 24-200 zoom of the RX10, for example, is never going to match the quality of any prime, or fast shorter range zooms. But for holiday memories, they’re probably perfect for most people.

Using a full frame DSLR has shown mejust how big the gap is to compact system ad ‘bridge’ cameras. Personally, I’d go for a compact system camera with as large a sensor as possible, as it’ll have better low-light capability and potential lens quality than a bridge camera, because shooting in low light is more important to me than a long zoom. I carry a Fjui X20 as a ‘pocket’ camera, as it’s small and light andcan go anywhere. A ‘bridge’ camera would be just too big for this purpose.

Interesting weekend of football. Utd not suprising anyone by being a bit crap, City suprising everyone by losing at home to Stoke, Chelse winnin aemphatically away, Arsenal being the traditionally frail Wenger side with no decent midfeiled general to boss things like Viera used to, and Spurs being shit. Liverpool were ok but not brilliant, and Balotelli needs to find his scoring head/boots. Martinez will be annoyed at how many Everton conceded; 6 at home is terrible.

Despite the Glazers best efforts, the United Brand is worth billions.

The ‘brand’ will becomeincresingly devaluedif Utds slump continues for another season. Far fewe Utd shirts down here in London, indicating that the ‘brand’ is no longer al that deisrable to the casual followers. UTd have secured long term investmnet which will help them, but really need to turn things rond uickly, and there’s no current indication that they know how/will be able to. Payng £60 millin for Di Maria smacksofdesperation andpanic; Sanchez cost Arsenal a lot less and is arguably a better striker. There will be a ‘Man Utd tax’ apliked to any player they sign. And they’ll end up with a lot more Kagawas.

    Ooh touchy. 😆

I also do DH, Motorbike racing, trackdays and spend hours at Trailcentres

Still doesn’t mean you’re not a boring person. Nigel Mansell was an F1 world champion, and he was the most boring **** on earth.

Can’t stand this particularly British malaise of wanting to blend in with everyone else, and not stand out at all. Why not enjoy having a bright, colourful car? I grew up in the 70s when cars were Yellow, orange, purple, turquiose etc. And beige. Guess what typese drove the beige motors?

Leading on from the permit thing; I was told recently that there is a 5mph speed limit on all waterways paths in the UK, and that all cyclists were ‘effectivel’y breaking the law’. As far as I’m aware, there no longer exists such a thing, although there was possible once a speed limit which applied to horses. Anyone know anything more abou tthis?

Much more interesting than all the generic boring grey/slver boxes that so many unimaginative people seem to go for. “Oh I’ll just buy a grey Mondeo, it’s a practical car with good fuel cnsuption blah blah drone drone’. Get back to building your scale model of Slough town hall out of matcsticks you boring ****.

Good luck with selling it on in a few years time.

I think men must have weaker muscles to control it or something.

I think this is actualy true. I’ve got a tiny bladder, and need to wee more often than most people. If I drink beer,it can be a nightmare. I have to be careful when out, if travelling onpublic transort etc, to time things so that I don’t get desperate whilst stuck onthe tube etc. Always try to be discrete about urinating, but ffs, it’s a natural bodily function. Don’t knoe how the OP can be quite so outraged really.

Ha ha! You’re ****! Don’t worry about loing like a fool; you’re going to be in so much pain; maybe not even the day after, but definitely the day after that. And the next day. And for hte next two or tree weeks. If you pick up a groin strain, you’ll be in pain for over a month, as said abov. But if others are in the same position, at least it won’t be too humiliating.

I had to give up a couple of years ago, due to wrecked knne oints. Had been playing alongside 18-19 year olds,so as a 40+ bloke, it was quite satisfying to beable to keep up with the youngsters, but age inevitably takes it’s tooll. I was suffering too much after games, and t wod have been crazy to keep oing.Upsetting, but you’re only young once.

Curently trying to get into a ‘senoir’s side’; load of old codgers, I’d be a relative yongster, but they don;t like new talent usurping them. 😆

**** it; go out and enjoy it, have a good time. Could be your last game.

Camra UK pub of the year

That doesn’t mean an awful lot to me really. CAMRA are a bunch of old fuddy-duddies who are terrified of anything new, and of anything that isn’t brown and cloudy. Loads of newwer brewers are being overlooked by CAMRA, because they brew something a bit different, like Lager or wheat beer, or genrally anything ‘foreign’. Bit too conservative and staid for e. Like the UCI. The Harp is a nice pub though.

    The Grenadier on Wilton row

That’s a lovely little place that. Really tucked away. Which made me think of the Old Mitre, which you’ve also mentioned! Not far from there is the Fox and Anchor on Charterhouse st, or the Betsy Trotwood on Farringdon road. The Craft Beer co on Leather Lane does a great range of good beers, but is a shit pub really. Overprced and pretentious, with no real atmosphere. The Olde Cheshire Cheese on Fleet st is another good one, full of legal types most evenings. Fascinating history. That’s then not far from The Ship tavern on Gate st, just off Lincolns ‘inn Feilds. Good food. You could get extremely pissed wandering round that area. 😀

Hedge Fund mnagers. Invariably brash, arrogant loudmouthed coke=heads lacking in social graces.

Sw1 isn’t awash with great pubs; I’d be heading more towards the City, particularly around the Clerkenwell/Farringdon area, which has lots of good pubs. The suits will usually have dispersed by 8 or 9, on a school night. If you’re very brave, then Hackney really is the place for god beer at the moment, with several microbreweries springing up. London Feilds is choice, if you can handle Hipsters (they’re a lot easier than Hedgies). Pubs are falling over themselves to offer the best beer. Dalston boasts some good drinking establishments, but with the finest kebab restaurants nearby. Or you could take a risk and wander down to Bermondsey st, as it’s suddently got über trendy round there. Brick Lane by comparison is ‘over’. Just tourists now.

I can’t reccomend one pub. There are far too many. Enjoy! 🙂

SKS mudguards are very tough, yet not heavy, and for full waterproofness, the Ortlieb or Vaude panniers. I went for the Vaude ones as they’re £20 cheaper yet just as good, and I think they have a better fitting system. Topeak make excelent racks without spendig a fortune. I’ve found CatEye rear lights to be the best for function and reliability. I still havent found a front light I’m happy with though, altouhgh Smart do some good inexpensive ones. Be prepared to change stuff more often than yo’d think though; daily commuting batters stuff more than occasional mtbing.

Who are the biggest net spenders though? If Liverpool do offload Borini, then their net spend won’t actually bee all that much, considering how many players they’ve bought. Man U do seem to be way ahead on net spend so far.

Stoffel was your lefty on a 26er or 29er?

26er. I might ressurect it if I can be bothered, then flog it to someone on here, seeing as how many fanbois there are. 😆

Been mentioned already, but the servicing costs need to be considered a bit differently to other forks. A lefty is a complex machine, relatively speaking, but it can be kept in tip-top condition forever. OTOH, don’t bank on servicing it yourself unless you’re a fettler of distinction. The info and tools are all out there, but it’s an order of magnitude beyond a regular fork service.

Bikes are relatively simple, easily maintained vehicles, that’s the whole **** apeal. complicating thingsunnecessarily defeats the object. If Cannondale actually designed the Lefty to be more user-serviceable, and more tuneable, lke Rockshox have done, and bring the price down, then they’d have a truly killer fork. But as long as some people are prepared to fork out (!) for a ‘premium’ prouct, such excessive marketing will continue to flourish.

    I made a snap judgement

..based on **** all knowledge of anything. How surprising. 🙄

I’m a wonderfully judgemental person you see!

    I gathered that. 🙄

Don’t get hung up on the computer thing. You’re wrong, bbut then you’re probably a saturday boy in some fancy shop in Surrey that sells overpried bling to folk with more money than sense. 😉

you just come across as being a little out of date, and I’m not encouraged that you’re tasked with bicycle repair.

Rest assured you don’t need to bring your bike in to me. Its’ probably far too new fangeld for me to comrehend! 😆 I’ll just stick to sorting out stuff that the vast majority of London cyclists use.; a veritable corniucopia of cycling paraphernalia, spanning many decades of history. Never mind; one day they might let you progress to ficing punctures. 😉

    Anyway…

Lefty’s are good, yet relatively expensive, not so easy to service, and don’t, in my opinion, represent as good value for money as other brnds. They do look mad, and will turn heads. And if you’ve spent over £1000 on a fork for a bicycle, you might believe they mke oyu a better rider.* 😀

*You still won’t be able to mount a normal bike computer witohut spending an extra £15 though…

You come across as a bit of a clueless, hamfisted oaf.

All this rudeness, all because i happen to have a differing point of view to yours. Why the hostility? Oh, and what do you do for a living? How old are you, and what experience do you have with cycle mechanics?

Why are you so quick to want to judge someone you don’t know, and haven’t a clue about their experience/skil? You, who were so sensitive and upset over a bit of gentle banter about your (questionable, in my opinion) taste in cycle footwear. 😆

No; I work in a bike workshop, servicing, repairing and renovating bikes. Everything from old Sturmey Archer hubs to Di2. Your point? 😕

No one uses a ‘cycle computer’ these days, literally no one!

‘Literally’? Are oyu sure oyu know what that word actualy means? 😆

I probably see/work on more bikes than you do. Loads of people use cycle computers. Hardly anyone I know, bar one or two ‘fanatics’, bithers faffing around with GPs, smart phones etc. However, I won’t be so stupid as to say ‘literally no-one uses them’. 😆

Fascinating to see Liverpool sell one troublesome, temperamental and difficult striker, and buy another troublesome, temperamental and difficult striker! 😀 But if Balotelli can finaly settle down, that could end up being one of the best signings of the season.

I can’t imagine ever wanting to buy an Evoque. If I wanted a 4×4 I’d buy something like a Land Crusier because they don’t let you down, I’d never want a SUV because I’d buy something with space on the inside and the rest of the time I want something cheap and economical. I have no need or desire to try and pretend to people I don’t know that I’m living a lifestyle that they want to aspire to. It’s not envy, I’m just not interested in what other people’s aspirations are.

Hmm; rational, reasonable, sensible and indicative of a modicum of self-awareness…

How on earth can this sort of thing be allowed on this forum!?!?! 😯
