PS – it is more likely it will be cold air, but it is also likely that you won’t come to any harm with one go at Russian Roulette. Do not ignore this – you need to prove it is not cardiac.

    as per Meehaja

If this hasn’t happened before – came on when you exercised, and settled within a few minutes of stopping – you need to be seen and have an ECG today to decide whether you can wait for a chest pain clinic appointment or need admission now.

If it lasted >15 minutes – or you still have any residual discomfort in your chest/neck or throat phone 999 for an ambulance NOW.

I am absoluteley not joking here.

If he was helping you unload your car, you pay but he owes you a drink.

Got a new pushed RP23 from them a month or so back. In addition to the pushed bit adding very little to the price, the level of communication and speed of servicing ,as well as the knowledge of the bloke I spoke to were brilliant.

A very far cry from getting spesh futureshocks dealt with by an LBS and spesh (slow) , and experiences I had with warrantee issues around a blown Monarch from an LBS and the UK importers (lost the shock, kept the fitting kit, couldn’t find a replacement…).

well as someone who did a bit of gassing in the past and now has to prescribe people drugs for more than a day or so, I might actually know a bit about it. But thanks for your ex cathedra opinion.

Anyway – everyone knows hospital docs prefer to get hooked on fentanyl, and we all know about the addiction rates with that…

    agree about co-prox though.

It’s a marmite drug. Some people hurl on it and some people get really freaky on it. For some people it is very effective – for some people it is useless. I use it second line when codeine isn’t tolerated. Had to use it a bit myself a few months back after a major RTA and airbag-related chest injuries. It did the job.

Maybe it ain’t quite as bad as ratherbeintobago paints it.

    Molgrips.

vaguely left wing myself, but how is bankrupting the economy and rewarding people for being indolent sofa-dwellers and developing dependency over responsibility a good thing for anyone?

How safe does a safety net have to be?

There are selfish right wing twunts, and feckless idiots who might be left wing if they ever thought about anything. So what?

    Monbiot says

People with strong intrinsic values must cease to be embarrassed by them.

I wonder if he’d say that about anti-abortion anti-evolution Christian nutters, or Stalinist communists?

The trouble is once we start waving our values and our certainties around – we define ourselves as being different from others with different “values”

£800 quid gets you a very decent self build – for less than that I got a Dialled love/hate frame, some DT/spesh wheels off here, magura martas off ebay, rebas from Merlin and finishing kit from all over.

You can put a singlespeed adaptor kit on any freehub, but it is worth using a chainring which isn’t off a double or triple as those are designed to want to shed the chain more easily. I got a Thorn chainring off ebay for a fiver. The frame I have has both an EBB for tensioning and a mech hanger in case I change my mind.

    What Ton said.

Look at your LNB first – lots of them are Quad in any case. We run 2 leads to an HD 1TB box with a sky card in it, and one lead to an older HD box with a freesat card (no point in running 2 leads to that one – since you cannot record without a subscription) – and get the free HD channels on that. Doing the wiring from the LNB is easy – just don’t disturb the alignment.

By doing this we have four TVs using our single dish – with outputs from both boxes to a second TV. And we have a spare slot for another non-recording box.

    Don

So they are apparently providing a good service to the flocks, and an unacceptable service to a discerning customer like you. Where’s the problem?

Nope – nice troll  – the flocks are getting shorn, but the shops would do better by taking a long view.

TJ re times to wait for servicing etc. If most garages can plan their staffing and schedules to do a hell of a lot better in response time – I don’t see why LBSs cannot. I don’t mind paying the going rate per hour, but I do mind being kept waiting 3 weeks for a 30 minute task.

There do seem to be LBSs who take a pride in their work and the service they offer, and others which are complacent and don’t really care, or who don’t know what their minimum-wage slaves are up to.

The trouble is that – aside from Elfinsafety’s tendency to rub himself against the gussets of high end apparel and then leave without buying – virtually all the anti-LBS comments here and on other threads are about poor or incompetent service, long waits and poor communication delivered by LBSs in face-to-face contacts, which is not really addressed by the argument that has developed in the last page or so.

I do feel for people like TBC who obviously offer a great service, but people like Don Simon are missing the point – many LBSs have yet to even start delivering basic decent no-nonsense service, yet they will not go out of business because they have a ready-made flock of poorly informed punters they can sell to.

I think some people have not read the OP – where it is clear that these muppets were either incompetent, or decided out of spite to fit the stuff badly because they hadn’t sold it.

as a GP I take blood on average about 5-10 times a week… often when the nurses or our phlebotomist cannot get a sample 8) But then I was an anaesthetist in a previous life…

Rough luck about the bruising – but it sometimes happens whoever takes it, and anyone who tells you different hasn’t spent much time actually seeing patients who have had recent blood tests.

MissingFrontaLobe – if they send you to a local hospital is to save them money employing staff and to increase their profits.

Lets face it,compared with Kate Moss, there are more attractive women working the tills in most Lidls. But there is some bizarre idea of “bone structure” that fashionistas love.

I’ll believe she is an icon when I see her nailed to the wall of a Russian Orthodox church.

Kate Moss is ugly, thick and self-destructive. She may appeal to the people in the fashion industry who seem to hate breasts. But she looks like she would snap too easily

Cycleworld as soon as I have a decent LBS – I’ll see if I can become a decent customer.

But since I am the one paying, I think it behoves the LBS to get their acts into gear.

If i had Skyline down the road I think I would rarely buy stuff online. But I don’t. I have:

    1) Some very nice blokes at the local trail centre who are friendly and give discounts but are really mainly busy keeping their successful hire business going.
    2) A bunch of muppets 15 miles to the West who have once lost my shock for 6 weeks, and on another occasion changed a chain without changing the cassette and not testing the bike afterwards. (I’d asked them to service a bike near the end of its warranty period – would always do this myself normally).
    3) A big well-known shop 15 miles to the North which always has a 3 week wait for any kind of technical attention and is offhand to say the least.
    4) Assorted shops aimed at selling BSOs to kids and lycra to middle-aged triathletes.

None of them are the kind of place I used to drop in as a roadie teenager where you could talk for ages, have a cup of tea, and somehow you ended up buying stuff sooner or later.

I wouldn’t mind if they even did what they said they were going to do. Ordered some spare parts over two weeks ago from one, “they will be here at the weekend” – errr no…. “we’ll chase them up”…. and no information feedback at all.

Seems they cannot be arsed to do anything other than sell new bikes, and cannot do basic customer service.

I am sure there are brilliant LBSs, but with 3 local ones I have felt that they think they are doing me a favour by taking my money. Whereas with even minor purchases from Merlin, Moonglu, Bikedock, Wiggle and even CRC (not Rutland or Bonthrone) I have had brilliant service and communication.

The health aspect isn’t the issue.

It is that someone the child loves and admires smokes and learns from that. It is important the sprog doesn’t see Gran smoke. Beyond that – not a biggie.

I am obviously shortening the process here but the doctor will work through a pattern of treatments. If Homeopathy is not in the mix then something else will be at that stage of the treatment pattern.

Nope. That isn’t the paradigm we work to.

Much of what we deal with is self-limiting illness (the kind a homeopath would treat – and then claim the credit for the cure). Homeopathy – in its purist form – is very mechanistic and far from holistic – with an emphasis on a remedy-for-every-ill and failure to confront psychological elements of illness other than by giving placebos.
