These may well be nasty genuine migraines, but the word migraine is sometimes used wrongly.

Not every headache is a migraine, and ones which occur “constantly” often aren’t. There are nasty things which occur in real bursts – like cluster headaches, but also other things, Tension Type Headache and Medication misuse headache about which one might be less sympathetic.

I would be getting your HR team to use an Occupational Health provider company to look into this

Never been a better time to learn languages… I’m planning to do a modern languages degree in a few years when I retire/ go part time. Did O level French and German 40 years ago, and teaching was poor. O& A level Italian 20 years ago when it was better, and doing GCSE Spanish at the mo, and A level next year, then going to swing back and resuscitate my French. I may be slower and older, but methods are getting better.

So, things that seem to work…

Well my partner is fluent in Spanish, and was in French, and given her experience I’d suggest a relationship with someone from France as the best method… ;)

Failing that, lots of great podcasts out there, for instance, News in Slow French, and online foreign language radio stations. Also lots of websites and web resources.

I’ve done evening classes and they are ok, but all the people need to be on the same level.

Currently spending an hour 1:1 with a teacher each week, and that forces you to communicate and talk in the target language.

Duolingo is good for getting some vocab into your head in odd moments, although you look like an idiot doing it on trains.

I’ve done the Michel Thomas thing and found it rather annoying. Paul Nobles CDs were way better.

The most intense way of doing things I’ve tried was a week in a Madrid language school, 3 hours group each am, and 2 hours 1:1 in the afternoon at the end of which my brain hurt, but I will do it again.

For you, I’d say, Duolingo, possible the Paul Noble CDs, listen to some podcasts and get yourself a decent grammar book for reference.

A Lexus dealer once billed mw for a bottle of spare oil they hadn’t given me, and for a “safety check” where they didin’t notice a rear light was out (and I had told them).

A subaru dealer kindly left an extra part of their socket set loose under the bonnet, and were very keen to replace unworn brake discs…

    They’re called main-stealers for a reason…

GPs do not have Final Salary Pensions. The poster above got it wrong. We have a complex money-purchase scheme which reflects our earnings in every single year that we have worked. I might get near 50% of my average wearnings as salary, and I am not complaining. The inflationary uplift is quite good.

BUT – set against that, the Conservative Government’s bizarre and counterproductive changes to Annual and Lifetime pension allowances are currently pushing almost any GP aged 55 or over out of the scheme or into reducing hours at a time when we have a national shortage of GPs which will absoultely kill the service.

So – for me – a bit of thought by the Treasury could have, at very little expense, by just leaving things the way they were, avoided an impending absolutely calamitous situation.

no tape-out loop or pre-amp out?

Optical out can work fine btw – I have 2 TVs which have optical outs which get sent via cheapo DACs off amazon to old amps with analalogue inputs. That would work with a 3.5 jack inpur

I’d also be surprised if you couldn’t get sonething with an optical input…

my cheapo T900 does have a 3.5 stereo jack and also can read a micro SD card

My more expensive Ruark radio will accept bluetooth and a 3.5 stereo jack.

you could use a tape out feed to either, I gueds a headphone jack output might be a bit high voltage? But IANAHiFi expert

They stopped offering at $800, which was a pretty lowball offer.

I was offered $1000 plus upgrade plus 5 star accommodation 20 years ago…

I think lots of us have been on flights with awkward passengers and have applauded the crew when they dealt with them. That wasn’t what happened here, where all were horrified at the treatment of this chap. Even if he has been a bit dodgy in the past, this was out of order.

Becoming clear that it was deadheading crew who turned up late at the gate and a bad decision was taken for “operational reasons” with one of the police officers now suspended and the CEO making two stupid inflammatory statements before getting it right. Huge reputational damage to United who, after a few times going through ORD with them. I have avoided. Prefer AA and BA.

My old school used to be direct-grant but is now fully private and is raking in enough money from the people paying to go, and from charity status.

My old college at Uni appears (on looking at their latest accounts) to have funds of £150 million including £120 milion in endowments, and only takes about 120 undergraduates a year…

I don’t think they would be the best place for me to give money.

However I have given to the local state primary my sons have been to, and when the younger one leaves his very good comp to go to sixth form, will probably give some money to them. They need it.

Porn is a bit gonzo these days, and I must be an old git as I prefer the well written word as stimulation – eg google “remittance girl” – but haven’t got any energy to spare for anything other than the real thing. Younger partner etc.

As regards kids – if my Boys learn about Consent, Condoms and let others come first (simple politeness really…)

Listening to the Dan Savage Lovecast isn’t a bad education.

    loved the sandwiches btw… :)

Bells palsy can cause this – but is usually more motor than sensory.

There are so many causes that this is the wrong forum, but as a GP I’d want someone to see this today if you mean you have anything more than a slight tingly feeling. A small stroke or a TIA are the top things I’d want to be ruling out. Or at least ring 111.

I try not to post medical advice here any more – it is a medicolegal minefield and usually someone pops up and says it is Lyme disease or something and don’t trust Drs… but in this case I’d make an exception. if it is still there and is more that just a tiny tingle, see someone today.

Visit around the place, Tavistock, Dartmoor, all the places either side up the Tamar on the way.

And cap’n jaspers – even though it is too big these days. (lived there in 88-90 and go back occasionally)

Wow, racists can be really obtuse when they want to excuse their behaviour.

    This.

Just so easy to find different words, and to reframe the way we think about people. It’s not about neurotic lefty posturing, it’s about being polite and getting on with people.

    Stoatsbrother

    Language changes.

I think it is racist, and even if you don’t, it seems an unnecessary version of the word which isn’t any shorter and seems potentially rude.

A lot of what people demonise as “political correctness” is just simple politeness and respect for others.

And, TPbiker just as one chinese mate can’t automatically represent the views of everyone of his background, neither can he tell you the word wouldn’t offend others, and give you leave to use it.

And lack of intent/knowledge/context does not make it any better, any more than saying to the police you didn’t mean to/realise you were speeding.

I do find it weird that several posters have mentioned their northerness as part of the explanation/excuse of why they might use it – or the other, corner-shop related, phrase being debated.

Netflix, NOW TV and Amazon Prime, and NextUp which I’d strongly recommend for Comedy fans

Stopped STW because the user experience and management attitude towards the forum wasn’t brilliant.

I would do the Guardian – BUT my partner has and it hasn’t reduced the number of ads she sees at all, or given really any extra benefits – I think they need to look at what they are offering contributors.

I’ve nothing to lose but if I can **** his life up just a little bit it will make me happy

Then maybe he has won and you have lost?

I do get the bitterness thing, and am watching a family I know go through all these issues at the moment, but they are happier because they are accepting one of them is just like that. You cannot change it, so why waste emotional energy on it?

Life is too short to feel hate for the feckless muppet of a parasite, don’t let it poison your own life, and leave him to poison his own. You have done without that money for the last 10 years. Let it go.

One could argue that crap sound has been designed into more recent TVs to sell them at a cheaper price point and then get people to buy overpriced plastic logs with speakers inside…

I use an old Acoustic Energy Aego pair of speakers with subwoofer on the one tv not plugged into proper hifi – wall mounted and discrete and white, it works really well.

56, enjoy the job, but it’s getting more pressured. I like it day to day, but after 32 years Doctoring, there are other things I’d like to do before health issues get me.

So I will take my pension at 60 when younger kid leaves home, mortgage paid etc. But my partner is 5 yrs younger than me, so have to be able to fund her leaving before pensions start, and we want to travel a lot, and I want to do a language degree. If it weren’t for divorce I think I’d be retiring next year.

The kids we have having 3.5 more years at school is the thing which really dictates stuff. If you want to retire early, have your kids early or bank a lot of dosh.

Indeed. Anyone who has seen journalists reports about things they actually know about, tends to be a bit sceptical. Knowing people at Uni who then went on to be reasonable high profile journalists has not made me any less sceptical.

But Trump is different – he just lies for the hell of it and then labels any attempt to correct it as “fake news” – and this from a bloke who trusts Breitbart.

I’d recommend every one to watch last weeks “Last Week tonight with John Oliver” where he totally nails this… not that catching him at it and explainig where he gets his lies from will help in the slightest…

well – maybe it shouldn’t be, language can change. Gay poeple have reappopriated “queer”, “Special” is now an insult, and I don’t look forward to Snowflakes any more…

Thing is – as Charlie Mingus himself points out – Anal sex is not an exclusively gay act – in fact with only about 5% of men being actively primarily gay, and quite a lot of them not engaging in anal sex, and with it being increasingly common amongst the perhaps 95% of people who primarily identify as straight, most of the anal sex is been done by straights…

I think this means the original microsnide is out-dated and irrelevant anyway.

I doubt that this will end the argument though…

CM I have some sympathy for your original point, although when the people involved seem to be saying you misinterpreted what they were saying, I’m not sure what to think.

But you are now achieving nothing other than a spiral down into a self made hole. Please stop. It isn’t doing you any good, and it will stop people taking you seriously when you raise issues in the future.

2010 Subaru here. Came with a better multimedia package and works pretty well, and when there is no mobile signal it can be really good. But most of the time I use Waze.

The people going into the clinics have enough pain and hurt without the condescending judgmental prayer of these muppets.

CFH your analogy is poor because the protesters at hunts and parliament etc are “punching up” at assumed power and privilege, protesters at abortion clinics are “punching down” from a position of moral superiority at people in painful and difficult situations.
