There is no one so educated as an educated American, no one so friendly and as polite as a polite American.

There is no one so insular and dumb as a dumb American, no one so violent or so bigoted as some other American pondlife.

I like the place, been many times. The polarisation of attitudes, politics, religion and behaviour takes a bit of getting used to if you come from an old-world country where we believe in very little and are cynical about everything else.

Absolutely no financial incentive for a GP prescribe (unless they own the pharmacy). Quite the opposite in fact – no financial incentive to not prescribe but lots of hassle if you prescribe more / more expensive drugs than your colleagues.

    This +1

So I think the GP was being a twit.
Sometimes I will give one prescription for the thing which is definitely needed, and a separate one for the plan B drug which can be taken to a pharmacy on a separate occasion if necessary. This means they only have to get/pay a prescription charge for one item, but don’t have to come back if they decide they need the other one.

We have had megaman CFL downlighters for the last few years, slower that 12v to get going but hugely cheaper to run and less heat/fire risk

Bencooper +1. Done it with 2 sprogs all over the UK, Europe and in the US and Canada

You can do all these weird things, which don’t involve doors as wide at a disabled toilet, and which do involve stairs. And you stay close to the sprog you love.

I wonder if these mega prams and their rise correlates well with the rise of the soft-roader 4×4 by people who can’t steer or park, yet want to be seen. 😉

What Bencooper says… keep it simple.

And I loved carrying the sprogs in slings when they were young

Slings (the Wilkinet is great), a cheapo pushchair (like the Maclaren Volo) and a decent baby carrying car seat.

You can argue the toss about whether he should have been banned, and as to whether he was a broadly positive or negative contributor here. I’d say yes – but for a few weeks, and yes – generally positive …

But… The twitter storm and paedo stuff he threw when he was banned is enough to make sure he doesn’t come back without a major grovelling apology. And rightly so.

I have seen one poster on another forum for whom posting was obviously not good for their mental well-being. Luckily they walked away. Perhaps this is just a more dramatic way of him doing the same?

It can work very well, but for pain I never use it above 30mg. The dose you’d give a depressed hamster.

Gabapentin and Pregabalin (rather better -simpler dosage regime) have been been strongly promoted by drug companies, but I haven’t found them that useful.

Or you could try a sports massage… apparently they are very good for everything… 👿

aracer we just don’t know, do we? Not without a thread which does something similar with a bloke climbing with a kid on his back, and seeing the response. Often people display their unconscious prejudices… errr… unconsciously…

    That’s why I am “wondering”…. 🙄

And I agree – no difference between her and the dad doing that, but people often do set higher expectations for mothers.

I’m surprised it took 4 pages before Alison Hargreaves was mentioned. She really polarised people at the time of her death, in a way male climbers and extreme skiers who have died didn’t.

I wonder if there would be so many negative comments here if it was the dad rather than the mum with her on his back?

i’m risk averse, and this photo looks either silly or show-off… I’d love to learn to freefall parachute but decided not to once kids came along. But last year I broke one ski helmet and one cycle helmet, so what am I doing?

Like Boris, I’d be more concerned about the harness than the lid. And I know and have mothers who have been accidentally responsible for the death or disabling of their kids.

No easy answer really, is there?

As a quack I’d tend to be keeping the TSH in the lower half of the normal range form most hypothyroid people , eg 0.5 to 2.5 and if you felt well on that, not worrying too much about the T4 or T3, but total thyroidectomies are pretty rare these days… Most underactive thyroid problems wouldn’t get near hospital now, something odd with yours? And are you 90-100% good at taking the tablets? Often screwy results go with missing medication.

And yes you are on a pretty big dose, but a few people need it.

I once spent a happy hour trying different new Yamaha yas32 Altos, all of which felt different.

Soprano is an unusual starter sax. I can see the point in starting small, but you do need to be able to generate a fair amount of lip pressure, and altos and tenors are way more common in ensembles..

Assuming this is to suit a small person, the first question I think you should be asking is should she buy a straight soprano sax (more usual, but long and weight not really taken by a sling) or a curved soprano (less common, S shaped like a bigger sax, and a fair amount of weight carried by the sling)

You will certainly find less in the range of s/h bargains in Sopranos compared with altos or tenors.

There are some here, including a couple who have posted on this thread, who simply shout the same opinion again and again, and don’t listen. Elfin was often very funny with his fey mockney insolence, but it is clear he has gone way beyond the pale behind the scenes and in emails to others. He’s had a pretty long leash at times.

In the end, this forum isn’t here for just you big-hitters. And I include two people who seem aggrieved by this banning, TJ and SBZ. It’s Mark’s party. If “free speech” seems stifled here, tough. SUMO chaps. And you might, by your posting behaviour, be keeping others from posting, reducing Mark’s forum traffic etc etc. Deal with it.

I would entirely exempt Bullheart’s story from this however, I was rather disappointed to hear about that. Not good. Sometimes two people can have an entirely different view of a situation, problems arise, things get handled badly. And the situation get worse. As anyone who is married knows…

One thing I really really dislike is value judgements that people are getting “bullied” on forums. It is right up there with Godwin’s law as a sign someone has lost an argument or lost it completely when they start saying people are “bullied”. Often it means that they don’t like the fact that the majority of others posting disagree with them. It is a rather pathetic and totally irrefutable thing to say, and is rarely accurate.

Jimmy – suggest you keep an eye on his postings for a while and post a link to this thread when he offers things for sale

Bilateral amaurosis fugax isn’t common, and this is persistent anyway

Do you mean “tunnel vision” ie diminished peripheral vision through 360 degrees in both eyes with preservation of your central fields… or just loss of vision to both sides (a bitveasier to explain…)

You must have had fields done…surely?

Glaucoma with simultaneous bilateral post-traumatic onset?
