If you pay for an ad, I guess you have a right to be peeved by stuff like that being posted.

But you didn’t and you don’t.

I like my iPhone 4s, but , my son’s Galaxy S2, on a great deal from Tmobile, with cashback from quidco, is really impressive

    Interesting one.

Didn’t see my father for 25 years, no major falling out really, just accidental drifting apart and not really liking him that much, This was 10 years after my parents split up and I really liked his second wife. Back in touch now, and I understand and respect him more, but still no real chemistry.

My mother has always been a challenge, but more self-centred and awkward as she gets older. I love her but don’t like her and my brother feels much the same.

I do like my parents-in-law… but they are unlikely to like me since I left their daughter recently

So the real question for me is how much I have become like my parents, and what I could have done differently.

But my relationship with my kids – aged 10 and 16 – seems solid and close – so hopefully things stop with my generation

An overlap is usual for at least one party in a relationship which is ending…

For the other person is may take a bit longer

I am 51, got a 16 and 10 year old. I was broody as hell, and glad when they arrived, and now despite heading for divorce I am bloody glad to have them.

But I was also glad to be only 40 when the last one arrived…

poly yep you can get hip joint pain where you describe – but also some sciatic nerve/ other nerve pain can be there… Top of the thigh/groin at the front is pretty typical too… Many people think they have hip joint pain if it is in the lateral aspect of the upper thigh, it usually isn’t.

As a GP – I’d be happy to see people with the pain you describe… but unlike knees and shoulders where there is a lot of stuff we can do/suggest, most of the stuff for adult non-traumatic hip pain which doesn’t need major hip surgery is generally better done by therapists

Pain where most people think the hip joint is, is not where most people with hip problems get hip pain…

So I’d see a decent sports orientated physio first off

Most people have one leg longer than the other. And there are therapists who seem to attribute almost any problem to this.

It would be lovely if there was a fix for bipolar. Don’t get fooled by rubbish in your understandable desire to fix something painlessly when it is rather more complex than that.

Met my father for the first time for 25 years, twice in the last month or so. Fell out in my 20’s

He’s interesting, but don’t feel like I have missed a lot.

Friends you get to choose, kids you have to love and look after almost whatever they do, but not all parents are great.

i stopped believing in Armstrong after he chased Simeoni down in 2004. Ferrari was not a man to have as an acquaintance let alone a Doctor. So much circumstantial evidence now, and interesting that this new charge relates to more recent stuff as well.

    And he dumped Sheryl Crow

Tj doesn’t explain your “joke” about Brats does it?

And you should have put those quoted words in quotes shouldn’t you?

Lots of great human stories here. We could all learn a lot from them. But you won’t, will you?

TJ As I posted, I respect people who take that decision, and think they don’t have to justify themselves.

You had a go at parents long before Janesy posted his/her stupid remark. But then the Edinburgh defence…

    Every thread, every thread…

    Failed then didn’t it.

Lots of really interesting personal posts from people who have taken decisions one way or the other or had decisions made for them.

And then Janesy’s and yours. A later one implying that some parents needed their kids to give them purpose and direction…

    Condescending twit.

oxytocin is a marvellous thing -without the human race would have died out long ago as everyone killed their screaming brats off

What a weird and frankly rude thing to say… 😉

    Father of two aged 10 & 16.

Have they limited what we could do? Yes.
Have they given us other things to do? Yes.
I’ve taught both to ride bikes. The 10yr old was helping build trails at the weekend. We ski together, laugh together and have fun together, and I hope that’s always the way.

Have my wife and I grown apart a bit through this process? Yes 🙁
Do I regret the kids at all? Not for a moment.
Would I criticise those who haven’t got them? No, and there really is no need to justify your decision

No sensible lawyer would do that. Head any communications “without prejudice ” and ask her for her employers name saying you wish to contact the law society. Pay nothing more.

Zimbo[/b) quality post and one that makes me change my mind from thinking they are just a bunch of utter twunts. But still the English team and others have an obligation to confront such behaviour.

The Queen isn’t the issue, or even really the royal family, although when we get that smug homeopathic tree-bothering-Diana-betraying nincompoop on the throne, I suspect a lot of residual affection for the royal family will disappear.

The issue is what it says about a society, and the way it is structured, the triumph of inherited privilege over merit, the assumptions about social mobility etc etc. The Monarchy by being at the symbolic top of this perhaps acts as one anchor which prevents this changing, and stops people saying… “hey,,, WTF ? “

But we English (I’d exempt the Celtic nations from this) are inert and lazy and reluctant to change, which has saved us (along with the English Channel) from lots of painful turmoil since 1688, and I cannot see the monarchy disappearing anytime soon.

Better close-up photo and more details of the story (duration etc) to my email in profile if you want a GP with an interest in dermatology to look at it.

Has she been told it is a “two week wait” referral ?

Basically new dark brown/ black pigmented lesion usually = urgent referral
But melanomas come in different colours too.

And 9/10 people we send up to those clinics do not have a melanoma

    Quacks opinion

The history of surgery Is littered with not very successful cures for HH. People rarely have it done these days unless they have oesophageal manometry tests showing significant acid regurg on a decent dose of a drug like omeprazole. There are laparoscopic procedures now.

Youy breathing symptoms don’t sound very like HH. Are you sure that it isn’t aerophagy and a panic reaction?

    But usual T&Cs apply.

    err… athgray why?

It isn’t like I can’t go skiing and cycling in France despite it no longer being an English possession…

    Logic fail… 😕

My personal view. Love Scotland although only lived 6 months there. There is some genuine chippiness both ways England <-> Scotland. I just get a bit tired of the same argument going round and round and round and round and round. I wish the Scots would make their mind up once and for all. Otherwise it will become somewhere that most English people would just like gone… a bit like Northern Ireland

TJ. – show me what I get from the GMC for the £420 I paid last year. No support, a slow and inefficient system, no clear policy on revalidation. A piece of paper and a couple of glossy brochures.

Please get your facts right for a change.
That NMC fee looks a bargain to me. And it will be tax allowable.

Congratulations…. and yes Muke has it spot on.

A few additional things for the future…

Kids will totally transform your life for good and for bad in ways you have not yet dreamed of, but you will get to teach them to ride bikes, to become friends with them, to enjoy seeing them learn to do things better than you. It is great. But you don’t have to be perfect as a parent, just good enough. We have two sprogs, one 10 and one 16, and one was from IVF. Some IVF parents let their sprog(s) become “precious” and over protect them. Don’t.

Also – work hard on your relationship with your partner. The baby is going to come first for both of you for quite a while, but you need to continue a relationship between you where you are defined as lovers/partners rather than co-parents. It is easy to grow apart without realising and one day you might wake up and realise this, and then the kids leave…
