This thread was all about Islaam and Ramadan. And then a few Christians waded into it waving the “it’s a Christian Country” flag. And were called on their accuracy and charity.

So rather deploying the knee-jerk lazy “millitant atheist” name-calling, those Christian posters might like to look back and see what actually happened here. The whiff of self-torching martyr is rather strong 😉

gobuchul That’s a rather defensive strawman argument. Show me where people have been called racist in this thread. And to do so would show a poor understanding of Race, which is not the same as Religion.

There are some – including perhaps the OP – who might be accused of being inconsiderate of others views, or narrow minded, or full of complacent assumptions based on a sense of Christian Entitilement, but that isn’t racism.

If it doesn’t do harm to the majority, why shouldn’t helping the performace of the minority by making small changes like this be done? That’s politeness… no? or even Christian Charity? 😉

dragon as you probably well know that is actually a BS statistic – based on affilliation or identification rather than belief or practice. It can identify people who are “culturally” affiliated but don’t actually believe anything. And the figure had dropped from 71% to 59% of the previous 10 years.

ufg really?! Compared to the confusing moving clusterf*** of Easter and its poorly timed Bank Holidays? I’m happy to see some accommodation of Ramadan.

Liked Berlin this time last year, but it was windy wet and cold.
    Venice in Winter is lovely.

What about Marrakech? Loved that in February last year.

It’s just not for you, that’s all. Not everything has to be for everyone.

I like it, but haven’t watched this series.

I spend half the week in rural Sussex, and half in a well-off bit of Surrey.

In Sussex we have small cars outside big houses, in Surrey it seems to be big cars outside small houses.

It really is not about hating or envy.

Anyone can buy what the hell they want. They can think it is worth whatever they want. But they can’t expect the rest of us to believe it is about taste, or engineering, or an investment strategy.

It’s a symbol which purchasers think is of class and style. But you don’t just buy those.

We don’t have enough info here to make a judgement.
We need your total cholesterol, your HDL, your triglycerides and, if you already have CVD, your LDL. We also need to know your family history and whether you have diabetes, atrial fibrillation or rheumatoid fever.
Look on the JBS 3 website for the calculator.

Statins except Rosuvaststin are so cheap now that pharma has little to gain by promoting them.

There is a huge volume of good quality research work linking lipid levels to risk, and showing positive outcomes for statins. Any Dr who claims differently is right up there with the Sunday times denial for many years that HIV causes AIDS… The degree of benefit and at what risk you should consider taking them is worth discussing. It isn’t censorship to call someone a plonker. There are as many in medicine as in any other field.

Do we believe that most people who buy them think about the history and workmanship?

Or do most think that the watches will act as a badge of membership of an elite international club?

Wonder who the ads are aimed at?

Back in the day, there perhaps used to be a genuine point in having a decent Rolex. Those days have gone. The meaning of these watches has changed.

It’s just a consumer choice. A status display. A way for people lacking in confidence in anything except their bank accounts to state their presence, and allow people who think that is important to recognise them.

At least a really expensive Ferrari does something better than a car costing a tenth the price. This just doesn’t.

Periods can be medically postponed if you know they are going to occur at a unfortunate time. However it is difficult to shut that stable door once the…. etc etc…

So it’s all down to how squeamish you and your partner are, and how narrow your definition of sex is.

This is an opportunity to show the Septics what style is… 😉

No comedy ties or cummerbunds. Self-tie tie, obviously.

No colour other than black, except for the lining. No Braid or velvet.

No wing collars except with white tie and tails.

Ideally the jacket should look well-used, as though you wear it regularly. Try to get a few custard and wine splashes on it.

You can divert from these rules if you are known as a “character” and have the personality to carry it off. Your dress needs to be more understated than you.

If in doubt, ask yourself what Jeeves would do… 🙂

All the evidence suggests – unless you are in a really hot environment – just drink when you are thirsty.

There is a load of BS talked about this. Look at the NIH report if you want to know more.

Real MiL dead, Real FiL a lovely bloke but frail and elderly and in a home and wouldn’t want to see me because I left his Daughter.

Partners Dad & Mum are pretty good – seeing them on Boxing Day.

My mum… becoming more selfish, weak and now beginning to become demented…
My Dad – somewhere in Ireland, I suspect on the pull… aged 83.

So In-Laws, official or otherwise, have tended to be easier than my parents.

It seems a bit less of a problem as you get older.
Met and talked with some nice people a year ago when I dipped my toe into the dating pool aged 53.

Very luckily found someone truly lovely, and she is now beginning to say she needs a bike with discs, rather than her aged rockhopper.

But heard some horror stories from friends, including from female friends. I don’t think all the blokes out there are honest or bargains either…

If you want to watch a DVD of someone – depending on their language skills – you might need to choose someone with similar cultrural refernce points who doesn’t do too much word play/pun stuff. you might find Tim Vine/Milton Jones/Jimmy Carr etc too fast and word based.

Someone physical like Lee Evans? (not my favourite)

Tim Minchin is a really good call. Has two shows on Netflix btw

Drac Indeed… But I hope that was legit.

I went to a not very good comedy night a few weeks ago, and one act had died on his arse. I’ve never heckled a partially-sighted comedian before, but he really deserved it…

Anyway – the Compere then did some crowd-work to try and get things going again, and made the mistake of asking one of my friends what he did for a living… who answered briefly “Writer”, and then the compere asked what he wrote, at which my friend, totally accurately, said “Jokes”…

At which point the compere became slightly embarassed and moved on quickly. Still treasure that,

I’m a bit of a comedy geek. I’d hate that kind of thing

That’s really unusual these days. Who were the comedians? What was the event?

Feedback to the promoter isn’t a bad thing.
Feedback to the comedian by groaning or not applauding, or walking out is OK. Heckles, except as you leave, are taking a knife to a gunfight.

Bottom line is, not all comedians are for everyone. you do not have a right to not be offended, but you do have a right not to be sold tickets to rubbish, and not to hear stuff which totally crosses hate speech boundaries.

If you do feel the show has been missold or is bad, walk out.
Staying for a show you hate, is a bit like sending back a steak which has been overcooked when there is only one mouthful left.

There is a simple rule-out blood test called a d-dimer which in someone like you with a low Wells score, can rule this out quickly. We do it all the time in my surgery.

This isn’t something you can diagnose on the Internet or over the phone. See someone.
