    Buzz absorption.

Not too sure it matters on trails, but I certainly notice it on road (dark side bike and on mtb).

Might be worth getting in touch with Peter Eland at Velovision.
Pete’s featured many different parking concepts over the years and, at the least, would be interested in the results of your work.

If you’re hostelling a Carradice Camper Longflap saddlebag is more than big enough.

I have some light weight shorts with padding over the thigh and hip.
Think 661 made them. Cost me about £30 and are light enough for jeycore riding (mesh covering etc) although obviously warmer than wearing no padding.

Feel free to drop me an email tonight if you want more info.

(I use mine after taking a wee crash that put me in hospital for a week with a thigh haematoma)

This chap – Davie Graham – lives on Mull and is a cyclo-X obsessive.

He’ll be more than happy to put you all in touch with the local mtbers.
(He also drives the Ardnamurchan ferry which must count as one of the coolest jobs out there!)

Drill your cable stops and run full length outers.

    Sorted.

I’ve still got a Giant cycle jersey that I bought in 1990.

Just prior to that (1986-1989) I’d been at Uni riding around on a bike my dad’s uncle had bought 2nd-hand in 1933 from Tottenham Court Lane market. So, the bike was over 50 years old at that time!

I’m not sure the UN73 is any better.

I was looking at this earlier in the week and concluded that the UN54 has the same bearings of as an old UN73, and has plastic cups to save weight.
Not if it has a hollow spindle though.

I’ve been running a UN54 for a year now with no problems (while absolutely stuffing just about every other bearing on my bike in that time)

If you still insist, Spa Cycles had some UN73s in stock earlier this week.

(I once got 40,000 touring miles out of a UN72!)

    Campylobacter?

If it’s been confirmed expect a visit from the health visitor. Make sure you get rehydration solution in. I was off work for three weeks and weak for months afterwards having lost a significant proportion of my body weight. Not fun!

And you don’t have to eat chicken – you can get it from food that’s just been in contact.

I’ve just received some tyres from them.

Took one week from order to delivery – probably quite reasonable considering the weather, and the order was confirmed by text to my mobile.

    Way cheaper than CRC too!

I used to live just south of Cleveland, Ohio.

Winters were horrible – riding was an exercise in survival and sometimes very stupid in all the frozen-ice.

Wish we’d had the bike barn then!

(and the summers sucked too – 100F and 90% humidity. Not fun at all!)

Although your download speed is 3.2Mb your upload speed will be way less than that and is set at 256Kbs or similar (I think) – same with your contact so your download speed is actually immaterial.

Video will be OK but if you actually want a proper conversation you might be better with just a handset.

I had a North Face tent delaminate on me after 10 yrs of use.
This had included 4 months of daily use when cycling round Britain and regular use after that.

North Face replaced it without question!

    It’s your day!

Another option is 1) small ceremony, 2) small dinner 3) massive ceilidh with everyone invited (ceilidhs are way more fun than discos!).

Show some photos from the ceremony at the entrance to the ceilidh and everyone is happy.

We did this and everyone was happy (wifey’s family hogged almost all the spaces at 1 and 2, but then they had flown in from Canada.)

    Check out Alpine Bike’s website.
Got a i-beam saddle and seatpost for just £27 (half-price saddle and free seatpost).

Only done one ride on it so comment on anything other than – easy to set up and nice’n’light.

    Are they London?

I know they have their own band of bikes and stuff

The current issue of Velovision gave the Fahrrad-Manufaktur S-300 a good review.
“A massively practical, mid-price town bike imported by Bikefix, complete with Chainglider, hub gears, hub dynamo and more… “
    Bikefix link

Wifey has a Ridgeback with 8-speed hub gear, front and rear drum brakes and big wide tyres. Is the business for lugging Thump around in. RRP was £400, but I got it for £300ish. Not light but what does it matter – it’s got a kid on the back!
Carrera used to do something similar in the Subway range.

I’ve seen guys with inflatable splints and more bandages than the local A&E dept in their first aid kit, but in my experience a first aid kit is really for no purpose other than emotional support and to stop the victim bleeding over everyone and every thing.

Anything more than that and it’s a trip to hospital or a phone call to the mountain rescue.

And to further support Dogsby in his approach, 30 minutes on a bike is a very long way when limping!

(Be warned; Jelly Babies contain gelatin and this may upset vegetarians – and Hindus, Jews etc. I’d stick to polos.)
Ribena in a flask is also worth considering.

V-brakes. But if the group are all using the same bikes (as often happens if they’re supplied by the centre) then a set of disc pads won’t go astray.

My first day of tutoring was with a group of 8-11 yr olds. Snow started to fall when we were 30 mins from the minibus. So, we turned round and headed back. Both leaders were frozen by the time we got to the bus and one of the kids was in tears he was so cold. So, we had our sandwiches and warmed up. As snow was lying on the ground we couldn’t go back out – because the insurance wouldn’t cover us, so we drove back to the base. One of the kids wet himself, and another kid had a knife so we had to stop and confiscate that. Then we spent 3hrs in the pouring rain doing skills sessions in the playground – the kids were warm as they were cycling around and around, while we had to stand and just put the obstacles back together. I was frozen solid by the end of the day.
And some of the kids even said "thank you" when they went home.

    Wrap up warm!

Have also had groups where some spoke no English and hadn’t even ridden a bike before.

Always a good laugh though :-)

I qualified a good few years ago and have done some training with groups in the wild. Haven’t done too much recently though.

Anyway, I’d say spare gloves too.
(And check the kids have what they’ve been told to bring!)
I’ve never used a CO2 pump and wouldn’t bother with a shock pump so leave them out. Would shove a spare gear cable in and spare brake pads – depending on what the group’s bikes are like. I also carry a range of tyre levers – the VAR425 is recommended for tight tyres.
Would also pack some polo mints.
The most problems I’ve had have generaly been from the youth leaders – unfit and with no bike skills!

    Awesome country.

I spent two weeks on a CTC tour in the SW, near ReykjavÃŒk, and saw enough to blow my socks off.

Blue Lagoon, Landmannalaugar, Geyser would all be touristy must dos.

The local guide (Halldor) might be worth contacting:
