What if they're knocked out, have broken their ankle, or have a spinal injury, and you're the first person that finds them?

We – as riders – do have a responsibility on the trail. If a rider is out on their own and they have a crash that incapicitates them then yes there is a chance another rider will hit them. I'm not going to preach about riding in groups and I do feel this is off the OP, but there is acceptable risk and there is unacceptable risk. Walkers on a dedicated MTB trail is unacceptable.

If you're riding anywhere at all, dedicated bike trail included, so fast that you may run into and injure someone on the trail then you just ain't riding with due care. As has been said, what if there is a mountain biker on the deck?

I see your point, but a mountain biker on the deck will do all they can to get off the trail or fellow riders will warn others bikers of the hazard. A walker will not

The Park Tools website is a good resource for stuff like this…with piccies and everything!

Not sure it's anything to do with Peaty. I saw Gee at Fort William and – much as I respect his riding – he is not a happy and smiley kind of bunny. I guess he started the season in tip-top form thinking he would be winning races and so far has won none.

if I had the money I'd buy new bikes all the time…just to try them. I'd probably keep most of them too since I have the space. There's always one out there that'll be better than the one you've got.

I like spag bol and I'm very happy eating it, but that doesn't mean I don't try other pasta dishes. It doesn't take a big leap (for me!) from this to bikes :-)

    …except of course I can't afford a new bike every time I go for a ride :(

I saw it at the piccies and loved it, and normally this kind of thing is not my cup of tea. I think I'd enjoy watching it again too. I wouldn't ever spend a tenner on a film on the off-chance of liking it though…I've done that far too many times with music and film over the years

an exciting (to me) addition to my OP is that he may want to borrow it for SITS instead of his full susser (not surprised, his bike felt like a worn-out mattress)

Bill the warden is out and about early (6-ish) and checks on the caves

Is this a wind-up? People have been dossing down in those caves for years.

Mmm, Higgar Tor. Only climbed there once and can't remember the cave, but a great spot though. Would rather be up on the dark peak moors than in the white peak dales.

Are there any legal rights of way for bikes up to Laddow rocks?

As soon as I read the first post I knew it was going to be for those thingummys. I saw them in my Wiggle newsletter and scratched my head for some time thinking why I would possibly need one. Easy…I don't

GAve up on Firefox. Too slow to start despite trying many suggestions from t'interweb. Chrome is certainly faster in my experience but doesn't work with the streaming video on Freecaster. It used to be all so simple :(

Girl in office yesterday- bought some Raybans off of ebay- doesnt like them so contacted Paypal and told them they must be fake. They refunded her straight away and told her to keep them or bin them

    HOW??!!

My wife was stung for nearly a grand's worth of fraudulent transactions through her Pay Pal account and it took MONTHS to get it refunded. Even now we are still chasing the £100 or so that we "lost" when the refund was applied at a lower exchange rate (the fraud was in $USD) and the £15 or so in overdraft fees that NO ONE is interested in paying. Not very impressed at all and will not be using Ebay or Pay pal again.

Been down this road myself. My problems followed a hard crash onto my right hip. Since then any ride of reasonable length caused pain mostly down the outside of my knee – almost as if I had banged it on the edge of a table. At the end of the Mary Townley route I had to resort to walking the last uphill. Eventually I found that simple stretches worked wonders as per stumpy01's diagnosis. Now if the pain does start, I get of my bike, do 5 minutes of stretches, and I'm fine (for a bit longer anyway!).

I had the same pain walking down the Fort Bill track at the world cup. Again a couple of minutes of stretches and the pain disappeared. Lots and lots of stretching is my tip.

I had an Octavia TDCi and got endless ribbing from my in-laws who are all petrol-heads. Not a bad car at all, but my Mondeo and Civic are both much nicer and more fun to drive. It had a great big boot for bikes tho'

Cracknell's ability to push on regardless of his own discomfort is probably a real asset when he's in pain in the final of an olympic rowing event. In the context of an endurance event, it appeared as more of a liability

    Excellent point

I've got to give total credit to those guys. This wasn't just "arctic travel" it was an endurance race in Antarctica. Despite some errors of judgement they managed second place. Big (non-sarcastic) hand clap from me.

"Arctic travel is very, very simple, with almost 0 risk. U just have to look after yourself. If you don't you make your own epic."

Surely everyone with a bit of common sense – regardless of whether they have been to the Arctic or not – knows this is cobblers. I've not read the link but I have read Andy Kirkpatrick's stuff many times and I can't believe this has come from him. Of course you have to look after yourself, but you cannot mitigate against every eventuality. Spending a month in temperatures of -40 is a risk in itself. My Uncle spent 18 months living and working in Antarctica and I think he would feel pretty miffed hearing a comment like that from a fellow mountaineer.

That said, I thought Cracknell was an asre.

"Apparently" Honda recommend that you rev the cars quite hard from new – or at least the sporty numbers. If you don't rev them the bores can glaze over and you can lose performance over the long term. This from a work colleague who is an avid Honda forum reader. It could therefore be as much rubbish as is sometimes spurted on this forum about bikes

    UPDATE:
Has a quick look on Click4gap and got a price of £127 instead of the £300 the dealer charged me. Not checked all the small print for the differences yet. I will be exercising my write to cancel though

    Glad I read this :-)

Interesting this. I have just bought a second hand car from an authorised dealer and bought the gap insurance (£300 for 3 years on a 56 plate Civic). Thinking of ditching it whilst in my "cooling off" period. What struck me is that it is a second hand car so the bulk of the depreciation has already happened. The other thing is that the insurance payout without gap insurance is "market value". I'm expecting that would be in the ballpark of what I would get if I part-exchanged it. So in essence, it my car gets nicked, I'm no worse off than if I chose to part-ex it at that time. Voila! I am "forced" to buy a new car before I want to but I'm in no worse a situation than if I chose to buy a new car. Mmmm :?

    Don't keep it too long.

I – until last Friday – had a 52 plate TDCi LX like yours (albeit with 145k on the clock). I had DMF probs, wheel bearings wearing out, then endless problems with back brakes etc…

Basically, despite being an excellent car to drive, it got to the stage this year where I was paying out more on parts than the value of the car. Sad to see it go but glad I've got a newer car that isn't going to surprise me with something else wearing out every other month.
