Valleydaddy, I’m meant to be resting my arm but doing nothing will drive me (more) mental so if you like I’ll make you a stove and a pan rest. You’ll need to bring some meths with you though.

    Steve you’ll get everything required on a Landranger 135 … you’ll require 2 1:25k otherwise.

I keep thinking about which way out of Mach’, then thinking again 😉 If the weather stays something like, then I’m inclined to think that the path of least resistance would be best. There’s always going to be a climb but I figure the weather and added weight might make things interesting enough without us looking for more. This will involve a bit of very quiet road and a fireroad climb to gain our height.

I’ll take a ride out later in the week and see what’s what … after the doctors have fixed my arm, fingers crossed.

@Valleydaddy, no idea of numbers really. I know not everyone who says they’re coming has posted, ‘spose we’ll find out on Sat.

    Ton, 2 things I’ve done in the past to get rid of a fever were;

Cold bath, not nice when you already feel like you’re freezing.

Drinking flat lemonade that’s been boiled … trust me you’ll sweat it out.

No I’m not having you on.

It’s certainly fair to say that the Peak is a nice enough place to ride but there isn’t that much riding and as Love Tubs (and others) have said, the riding, for most folk doesn’t warrant a guide.

The majority of our work is instruction/courses. We do offer guiding in many different guises, everything from a gentle tootle to multi day epics through the mountains. We’re also in a location that has that out there / wild feel, bike hire and free accommodation. The area is also pretty untapped (certainly compared to the Peak) with the highest number of legal ROW anywhere within England/Wales …. and people don’t knock our door down requesting guides.

If your mate wants a chat, emails in my profile. 😉

I was just bringing some butties … somehow it doesn’t seem enough now!

You’ll be pleased to hear that it’s minus something stupid with no sign of any thaw for sometime. Last March there was no snow in the valleys (hadn’t been for a week or so) but the track, the track we’ll be trying to ride still had 10″!

How do you cook a christmas dinner for 10 in a Jetboil then flatfish? and shall I borrow some veg of the llamas?

Trio, I reckon you’re right … once you get involved with hospitals then sensible has to figure.

    … and valleydaddy, don’t have sausage 😯

The carradice stuff doesn’t sway if you use one of their mounts rather than just fastening to the saddle … Ton was flogging a nearly new bag and QR mount earlier for the right money.

To be honest I’m surprised he gets as many takers as he does. People will happily pay for a guide abroard but that doesn’t translate to over here.

I reckon the Peak is a difficult spot because it’s well known as are many of the trails, somewhere like Skye might make people think about hiring a guide … I believe the only real way to making guiding work in the Uk is for it to be part of a package, 2 nights B+B with 2 days riding, try and project it in a social / holiday type way.

Sorry, I know none of the above really helps your friend out.

    7 days a week, 365 days a year if need be 😉

General 1 and 2 day courses are run ‘on demand’ as it were, we’ll fit in around you. Ask for it to be kept as a one to one and we will … at no extra £.

backhander I wasn’t expecting it quite so early. Most years we’ve been fine uptil Christmas and Jans being a bit hit and miss.

If the weather breaks then there’s no reason why December wouldn’t be possible, if it doesn’t then I’d be inclined to say Feb as a safe(ish) bet.

    Sorry that doesn’t help much.

Without seeing you ride I can’t really say, however there’s no substitute for time spent on the bike … if what you’re practicing is correct then keep practicing and you’ll get better. If what you’re practicing is wrong then stop right now, you’ll only make it worse 😉

Don’t imagine it looks much like that today Stu 😉 … roll on spring!

Trimix, that’s a pretty difficult question to answer as everyone’s different.

If we use drops as an example … the mechanicals of riding a 3′ drop are pretty much the same as for a 6′ drop. The mental side of things can be quite different. Neither drop is rollable but your mind sees the 6′ one as being far more dangerous. A good instuctor can help you to understand that it’s possible to ride both and show you how to ride them but the bottom line is … when you’re stood above, getting ready to approach this 6′ drop you’re on your own, your actions determine the outcome.

Some people thrive on this ‘pressure’, others can’t handle it as well … Good instruction will be progressive and the progression from the 3′ drop to the 6′ will be gradual, you’ll almost sneak up on it 😉

    I won’t comment on bail-outs … ‘spose I can’t really as I’ve no real idea who’s coming along 😀

Enough snow this afternoon for Dennis to go sledging!

Arm’s still not great ta, would seem to be rsi (cue comments). I was instructing yesterday and it held up but hurt rather alot last night … to the point of shouting **** me down the phone to my mum at one point as I tried to lift a brew up with it 😉

Plenty of snow here at present and -3 … it’s possible that the weather is confined to just our valley though 🙄

Just taken delivery of a thermolite bag liner which is meant to increase my bags range by 6 degrees … we’ll see.*I might be joining in with Ian and using 2 bags.

*Oddly, at first I wrote, I might be joining Ian in his 2 bags!!! good job I spotted that, eh 😉
