@Dyffers … I’ll see what I can do, can’t promise owt though as I’m guiding all week 😉 Yes, sorry if it seems to have become a slightly wrt thread but I suppose most of the folk who post on here will be riding the wrt.

Think you might be heading to the wrong place 😉

Perhaps take a drive over to Brechfa instead.

Has anyone tried these boil(able) food bags? … stick a meal in one, then drop the whole bag into your pan of boiling water and eat it straight from the bag.

    @ Valleydaddy, nice blossom 😉

@ Pistonbroke, heard nothing about an accident … hope they went in from the damn and not over the edge from the road above.

EDIT: Mounty, keep up man 😀

I’ve a Carver which I really like. There’s a Soloist sat in the workshop nearly built, there’s also a spare 29″ front wheel in there 😉

I recall Brant said something last week that included the word … soon 😉

Shifting all that weight from your kit will make a massive difference Pete. Even when I’m riding my ‘it only weighs slightly less than I do’ black On One I can still notice a reduction in kit weight.

With regard to a planning evening with the WRT grid references … you might need more than the one evening 😯

Not overkill Pete … wet stuff isn’t too bad for a single night but anymore and it’s a touch depressing. No point making stuff worse than it already is 😉

Don’t worry, the expensive ones aren’t waterproof either!

Sorry I don’t want to sound picky but Aberdare is a good way below the Cambrians … the Cambrians finish around Llandovery 😉

Mungos are a road size not MTB, so the O/D is 26mm … always thought it was odd that they were road size but Midges weren’t.

I’ve messed about with Mungos before but only on SS so can’t help with the shifters. The oddest solution I found to the brakes was to use some Tri, bar end brake levers. Seemed to work ok and will certainly add to the querky feel 😉

Sorry but the forecast I’ve seen says, rain, freezing temps and storm force winds for the whole of Wales the entire weekend!

I’d go for the QR … I don’t have a QR bracket, my mate does. I once spent a frustrating 10 minutes trying to get my bag off – he didn’t.

On the day in question, we’d ridden for 12 hours into a 30 mph headwind in horizontal rain so our hands had long since stopped working.

SV can you buy plans to make that or are you making it up as you go along … I apologise if you are already a master boat builder 😉

Yea I think Race kings would be a pretty good choice. I’ve been running a pair of Michelin RaceR’s in a 2.2 flavour and I’ve been very impressed. Not the lightest tyre out there but very fast and more than enough grip for ‘normal’ conditions.

    @Ian … 21t, good choice 😉

Obviously not specific but a 16″ Dialled Bikes Alpine might not be too far off the mark … even though the TT is a touch longer than requested.

Molgrips you’re right, a TD type event and a stage race are very different … which is what I said. It would be pretty easy for a TD type event to morph into a stage race as the pressures increased, eg rider numbers, insurance, revenue, sponsers, etc.

Never thought about it like that … I can say however, that it’s the most popular 3 day, bikepacking event held in Wales at the end of May, in the WORLD! 😀

EDIT: Don’t bother, I’ve already got a “Welsh Divide” route underway … seeing as there is a physical mountain divide running N to S for a great part of it.

‘Tis true, once the numbers start to increase then the emphasis changes and before long you’ve got a stage race on your hands … Trans whatever.

There’ll be around 90 riders on this years WRT. If they were all going the same way it would be too many and certain elements would be lost.
If you were to try and keep numbers down on a uk TD style event, then it might become elitist and obviously small numbers would mean you’ll be hosting it for the love 😉

I’m going to say that the wrt is the nearest thing we’ve got at present … although it’s still a million miles away.

In both you’ll be expected to

    • Be self sufficent
    • Navigate yourself
    • Sleep under the stars (at some point)

You’ll also get nothing for coming back first 😉

This could be a stupid question so I apologise but … is that 2 bags for one bike Dr Rad?

I’ve got an Alpine Buzz … it’s the bike I tend to use for guiding. Mines set up with shorter forks (120mm) and 3 rings on the front.

Makes a superb all day bike, climbs and descends well. Never ridden an Evil so can’t comment on that.

Onzadog we do womans only weekends, always at least one per month … some people find the group enviroment works for them but as CG says, a group isn’t for everyone. For those who prefer not to be in a group we offer 1-2-1, 2-2-1, etc. Something we don’t do is charge any extra for the privilege, to me it always seems a little unfair to penalise someone for either having to or choosing to be on their own.

As with Jedi, some of the stuff here is artificial. It’s designed and built to be ridden and to help address certain issues / skills. If the techniques / skills, etc have been taught well then they’re easily transfered over to someones more usual terrain.

Anthony how much room is there in the TN bivvy bags … do you reckon a winter bag would fit in without restricting sleeping bag loft?

Speaking of books, has anyone else read – Journey to the centre of the earth by Richard and Nick Crane?

Proper mental, 1 tube between them and a puncture kit, no spare clothes, no tent or tarp, no bivvy bags, 1L of water each (they ride through the Gobi). Think these lads possibly invented ultralite 😀

I imagine it’s out of print but well worth tracking down a copy.

Following on from the cheap aluminium pans a few pages back …. it would appear they’re now cheaper. 4 hard anodised pans for under 7 quid seems rather good value.
