It’s a sad state of affairs but I doubt the law will do anything as no one was hurt. A few years ago the car I was driving was crashed into while I was stopped at traffic lights, the other driver kept going. I got the reg and reported it to the rozzers within 10 mins of the accident.

The details I gave them matched a car at an address 12 miles from the accident … it took them 2 months to bother going round! Obviously the other car had been repaired by then … sorry there’s nothing we can do 🙄 2.5k worth of damage to my car.

You must push your shopping trolley in a strange manor

I should point out Geoff that your shopping trolley is empty at the time and you’re letting go of it … imagine you can’t be arsed walking it back to the trolley park or perhaps you were trying to use it to skittle an old dear 😉

My experience is that all kids are very different, in general they don’t tend to have the same attention span as most adults either, so a full days instruction can be a bit much for them. They always seem to progress much better when it’s done in bite size bits … 3 consecutive Sunday mornings, maybe 2 hours at a time, as an example.

We’ve instructed kids down to 8 without any problems and we’ve instructed 11 year olds that in all honesty could ride rings round a lot of folk.

A few years ago we ran a days instruction for the FC at CyB for ages 9-13. We were inundated … twas an interesting day 😉

Sorry I can’t be more help.

Can anyone enlighten me to what ‘shopping trolley-ing’ is?

The action you’d use to push a shopping trolley across a carpark is very much like the action used to to lift your front wheel onto or over something, eg log, drainage ditch, etc 😉

10kph would be a much more realistic average speed over a full day on BW, Rupps, tracks, etc. The two fastest people to finish this years Bear Bones 200 had an average speed of around 12kph. That was over 210km of very mixed terrain, they are both very fit / fast and weren’t hanging around 😉

There’s not much in it really Clink, the second one will give you a few more options with regard to riding. Both near to the coast although the first one’s obviously at the coast. For an all round outdoor base the second one in Dol’ would be my bet.

I don’t think many mountain bikers think much about it. We offer mtb navigation courses and those who attend are often surprised how bad their nav’ skills are and actually just how easy it is to get ‘displaced from your map’ 😉

I do wonder if the increase in trail centres may have meant a decrease in navigation skills, I don’t think the reliance on satnav in cars has helped much either … there was something on radio 4 that said ‘they’ expect the general populace to lose the ability to read a map (even a basic road map) within the next 2 generations.

I wanted a fatbike so I WOULD feel superior and be able to sneer at trail monkeys … i’m a touch upset now after reading the post, to know that this might not happen 😉

Mach’ N Back in mid January.

Welsh Ride Thing at the start of June.

Bear Bones 200 in mid October

Have a search about on http://www.bearbonesbikepacking.co.uk for more details. All in Wales and all involve a good percentage of suffering 😉

I suffer with what is best termed colour recognition (or lack of it). I see the same as everyone else but my brain can’t tell you what the colours are, I also have the more usual colour blindness symptoms. I ran a motorbike shop for years and somehow learnt colours to the point that I could mostly follow a wiring diagram and easily wire a bike from scratch.

So as above, give him some time and although he won’t be able to retrain his brain he might just come up with a way of coping.

Would a good run ‘de-stick’ them?

Consider the milky gunge on the inside of your sight glass, there’s a good chance the sight glass isn’t the only place it’s lurking 😉

The ‘milky’ oil IS caused by short runs, a water cooled engine requires at least 8 miles to warm up fully, only then will the condensation burn off.

Doesn’t the clutch cable on a ZZR go to the clutch side, not into the drive side of the engine? (could be wrong here, it’s been a while) if it does then you have no pushrod, so no adjustment there. If the clutch arm is on the clutch cover then check to see what angle it’s at, it wants setting so it’s just slightly greather than 90 degrees with the clutch cable holding boss, this will give you the greatest leverage. Also where is the span adjuster set on your clutch lever? Set it so the lever is furthest from the bars, it isn’t meant to alter the action of the clutch but it does.

A drive chain that’s too tight will make the problem feel worse too.

Don’t put thinner oil in, it really won’t help your cause in the long run.

Too many nasty surprises of off camber and otherwise unrideable bits

Every inch of the ClimachX is rideable

Nothing like the ClimachX … they’re (or they were) waymarked routes on BW etc. I say they were as I believe the signage has been taken down. Pop into the Holy Trail for the latest and to get a trail map but take an OS with you too, chances are you’ll need it at some point. Oh and they start from the centre of Mach’.

We had a family of weasels in the log store … they took care of any rats. Luckily I have a very strong dislike for rats but love weasels and stoats 😉

Saxonrider have you actually seen any signs of life in your wood pile? If you have and you want rid, then poison would be your best solution, obviously treat it with care and make sure it’s well out of range of the kids and domestic animals. Netting won’t really do anything, even a big rat can squeeze through a tiny hole.

I’d certainly second a good HT. Out of all the women I’ve coached (and men for that matter) the split between FS and HT is around 50%. Never once have I thought that someone on a HT was being held back by it, poor componant choice, size or set up, yes but never the actual bike.

To answer your question, Mrs S8tan rides an Inbred and a Sanderson soloist but not at the same time.

Has anyone tried Ice Spikers and Snow Studs?

The Ice Spikers look much more aggressive (and expensive), so much real world difference between the two?

Could you not have bunny hopped over it? 😉

Did your harness come with a set off foam spacers? These will often move the harness away from the cables enough to stop them kinking/pulling, etc.

I always put my cables behind the harness rather than in front of it … horses for courses really.

Kiwijohn … why the rack? looks like you could easily get away without it, judging by what’s on it.

Ignore all the above replies … riding in the Peak District on a hardtail will result in death or terminal injury 😉

Yes, warm it up, if you’re setting off with the choke still on that’ll always make it clunk, as the thing will be ticking over a few hundred rpm higher than it ought to be.

I think the one I had was spaced 120mm on the rear … certainly wasn’t 135mm.

Baskets easy enough to replace but don’t expect the centre clutch nut to come off easily … you’ll need a clutch holding tool and an air gun will make your life easier.

Could also be warped clutch (plain / drive) plates. Worn cush drive rubbers (rear wheel) will also make the problem feel much worse. Kawasaki gearboxes have always been a little ‘clunky’ right back to 1972 it’s more annoying than an actual problem.

Slackening your clutch cable means the clutch will disengage less rather than more. Not enough freeplay in the cable will result in the clutch slipping rather than dragging.

What oil did you use and (sorry about this) did you put the right amount in? Don’t assume just because it says 3.6l or whatever on the side you will have to put this much in … check you haven’t overfilled it slightly, it wouldn’t take much to make a difference when the things still cold.

Had a Dutch bloke called Peter stay here last year. He hadn’t been home in 6 years. When I asked where he was headed next, he said Italy but it was via, the Lake District, the Highlands, Ireland, South coast of England and France … reckoned he’d make Italy sometime within 18 months.

He had a budget of £5 per day which included everything. Obviously when he travelled in the poorer parts of the world he didn’t spend £5 a day so was able to spend a bit more when in the ‘West’.

I’ve never met a happier, more content person.

I’ve heard a whisper today of a UK route which will be approx’ 1000 miles, 90% off road and 80% waymarked. I’m not in a position to say anymore but that should make for a real challange … just keep your eyes and ears open.
