Lightfighter762: That Blue Pig is a nice looking bike, I get the impression that it is a bomb proof ride rather than subtle? I like the geometry but have ridden a 4130 tubed bike before and it lacked ‘life’.

How does it feel on the trail?

Cotic demo in the FoD on 23 June. Only Pace demos are in N Yorks! About 300 miles away.

    Ah, the On-one quality lottery…..

To be fair the 2 frames I’ve had from them have been good value even if I did have to get the Bottom bracket on my 456 re-tapped by my lbs.

I did wonder if they were bringing something out as the Deedar is looking a little long in the tooth.

Alas, I’m near Malvern but thanks for the offer. I think I have narrowed it down to 2 bikes: the Pace and the Cotic. I might see if I can find a demo day or two.

The Ghost – (obviously different wheel size) but how does the RC627 compare to the Sherpa?

Alas, a little too much and I’d be needing an XL. Interesting though.

The Shan looks interesting, though not boost it is cheaper….

I do like the look of the Pace but am concerned that the reach is maybe too long and would have a bias towards downhill at the expense of climbing.

I do already own a Stanton Sherpa and love it but wanted another ‘arrow in the quiver’ for more hard-core riding. The Switchback is tempting however.

The Blue Pig looks to have spot on geometry but the others have better tube sets for the money. I did have a 456 once that had 4130 tubes and it felt a bit lifeless.

The Soul in silver looks gorgeous though……..

Decisions decisions! Has anyone ridden the Pace RC627?

I may be guilty of watching too much Games Of Thrones lately but when I read about Armstrong the C word is on the tip of my tongue. Why has he said this now? Has he got a new book coming out?

Try looking at the Bearbones website (it’ a bikepacking website in case you’re wondering). They feature the Cycle2charge dynamo at £48 ex postage. No idea if it’s any good.

You should definately stick with the same eye to eye and shaft length, the geometry may be adversely affected otherwise. As for rebound or compression, if you,re happy with the current settings you may want to stick with similar settings on a new shock, however, damping settings will vary between manufacturers and even within a given manufacturers product line do vary. I believe that Arios have basic damping. Monarchs can be adjusted with volume spacers cheaply from CRC or elsewhere. If you,re not sure on rebound or compression settings you may want a shock that is more adjustable, such as a Fox RP23 or a Cane Creek DB. These are more expensive though and getting the right feel may take longer through trial and error.

Are you sure it’s the bottom bracket? Curiously a lot of bike noise appears as though it is coming from that area when it isn’t.

I used Hermes for the first time this week and they forgot to collect!

I have an Altura Attack as well as a Marmot Mica (not a specific bike jacket but very good). the Marmot is great, very light, very waterproof and breathable and packs down to a small size. It’s cheap too (£80). The Altura is also good but not a light or breathable.

I’ve got a Memorymap 2800. It’s a great moving map display but despite that I can’t recommend buying one (they’re around £200) as they have a fixed battery that lasts around 3.5 hours and the operating system, based on MS Windows, is a bit fragile. I won mine though so at least I didn’t pay for it.

Thanks for the suggestions, no it is not my knees, not yet anyway.

The candle wax sounds intriguing, I’ll report back on progress.
