and don’t forget the sting in the tail from south side of the hills, head up British Camp and along the back lanes, past Wyche and choice of direction, west and amble down or east and amble down, enjoy:)

    @p7eaven

Cribs to Purton, drop down to Easter Compton, then NCR 4 to Olveston, then NCR 41, Oldbury, Berkely and cut down to Purton if on MTB/Gravel and on to Glos. Lanes are generally great, only muddy around Hurst Farm when wet.

If your on a road bike I would just stay on NCR 41 all the way to Glos, only a mile on canal bank from Slimbridge but hard gravel so ok, then flat lanes through Frampton, Longney, Elmore to Rea Bridge and on to surfaced canal bank up to the Docks

Whereabouts in Bristol? Road or MTB?
Once at Gloucester docks avoid A38 as Blob says by going to Maisemore on cycle paths, then Hartpury,
Ashleworth, Tirley etc on Route 45, But when you get to A438, follow R45, across main road, but take first left to Pipers End then onwards to Birts Street ( good pub), Castlemorton and Welland via Druggers End.
Then short hop to Malvern, No A roads at all (apart from 100m on A438), mainly flat ( Nice short sharp climb on Old Hartpury Road) and quiet country lanes.

Do it lots of times from Dursley Can send GPX if you want.

The route is simple- it’s the same one everyone has been doing for about twenty years so no conflict there.

One day , just try it the other way round, please! :)

It feels like the EU is about to become a more unified superstate that is the equal of China and the US.

EU Superstate, Equal in what sense?

    Economically , maybe.

    Conventional military , maybe.

    Nuclear power, no.

    Now a European Alliance,

    Yes,
    Yes,
    Maybe

That’s nice and all, but it’s Ukraine that is the issue here, the imagined fears of everyone outside Ukraine is hyperboleare justified.

I’m an old git (64 though that means nothing in itself) but I’ve not seen the like of this and fear for the consequences.

My daughter starts nursery next month, costing £1300/month. This feels like poor timing…

Probably is poor timing, but if you can afford to pay 15,000 pa, (after tax) for nursery place for one, you’ll be fine. (Of course I know nothing about your situation)

I’m really not sure what you’re complaining about stgeorge.

Not complaining, just sad, £30 a year some people can’t afford, and to be marginalised for being cash poor is sad.

Well, now you know. Mark &co. don’t just do it for love. It’s almost like it’s a business to them O_O

Appreciate that for the the mag, yes. Forum no, initially done to promote the mag, then try and monetize it does irritate me somewhat. Particularly when forum costs are probably more than covered by members anyway

That’s generally how commercial businesses work, yes

I love maps, started with looking at old cloth OS maps to discover routes to rivers to fish as a kid, progressed to Merchant Navy Nav officer (OK, they’re charts) for 10 years, Road rallys in the 1980s, GP4 round the lanes, stages in the 90s, mtb and road for last 15 years.

    OS rules OK

That Irish times article is brilliant

Having a monarchy next door is a little like having a neighbour who’s really into clowns and has daubed their house with clown murals, displays clown dolls in each window and has an insatiable desire to hear about and discuss clown-related news stories. More specifically, for the Irish, it’s like having a neighbour who’s really into clowns and, also, your grandfather was murdered by a clown.

My mountain bike is 10+ years old and is, by pretty much every contemporary measure, obsolete.

Bollocks to contemporary measures, if it works – ride it for a year and then see what you want to get.

(PS I understand the peaks are quite good for roadying as well, just like the Cotswolds for MTBing)

I guess the knock-on effect is that further down the line they will be five minutes later in drying, but if a five minute delay in the acquisition of fresh smelling shreddies is crucial then you are either leading an exciting, if slightly unusual, lifestyle, or have made some regrettable lifestyle choices
