csb – This was at the Tai Lam chung Reservoir, near the BBQ area at what I would usual describe as the start of the CX loop.
DickBarton – From our fractured conversation he did (appear) to say that he had gone around Taiwan on it.

Maybe a 1998 model at the earliest, still 14 years is not too shoddy, however no where near as good as 20?

V8, not done the stairs yet, trust me getting to that point is hard climbing enough. Maybe when the tourists have gone though…..

Ngong Ping Buddha, Lantau Island, not very off-road but good exercise all the same as its a bit of a climb.

To get out into the countryside, its a fun way of keeping fit and to provide a nice way of clearing the mind of work rubbish.
It’s also a rare pastime that can be enjoyed on your own or with friends, plus the toys are great……….

Though not an LTc, my TRc frame (+shock) retails for around the same price in the UK but I got mine in Hong Kong for 1,530 GBP, though that does include a 10% discount.

Being biased I would recommend a Santa Cruz Blur TRc frame.
Its a very stiff lightweight carbon frame, good for XC and most trails plus it takes most standard bike parts such as post mounted derailleurs, thread-in bottom bracket etc and you could use your existing 140mm forks.

Would say its 30/70 alone/in group for me.
I understand why a lot of people cycle on their own to get away from everything and have some quality me time but I do enjoy a social ride and am lucky that I belong to a large MTB group that has a mixed bag of riders with a wide range of different skill sets meaning you can choose not to join or join depending on who has confirmed to attend a particular ride and based on what you looking for on that day. As well as accidents I have to content with wildlife out here (lots of poisonous snakes and some water bison) so when I ride on my own I always make sure the wife knows when I will be back approximately and what route I intend to take.

I enjoy the maintenance side almost as much as the riding but I don’t think I am obsessive.
Would rather try to fix a problem on the side of the trail than spent an hour or so riding with an irritating noise or small mechanical problem bugging me, so if it can be fixed before the ride, then its one less thing to think about.
Proper planning and preparation prevents piss poor performance…or something like that.

On days off I struggle to stay in bed after 7-7:30am which drives the misses mad as she could sleep until 1pm without any problems. For some reason I just can’t stay in bed, I have to get up as soon as the sun glints through the curtains, even with a hangover.

Really nice in white, I used to have one of those in black…..

It is a great bike, but by chance most of the parts fit my new frame…

Tigers head overlooking Discovery Bay and Disney World on Lantua Island, just visible in the background is Victoria Harbour, Kowloon (left) and Hong Kong (right).

Solo ride early on a Sunday morning, after a hard climb up it was good to just sit down and take in the view, then enjoy the journey back down.

Watched in in 3D yesterday, it was OK, better than I was expecting.
It was so good to get a good Hulk back on the screen after the last two attempts and Tony Stark/Iron Man is always worth the admission.

I’m 5’9 with a 30″ inside leg and find my medium Blur TRc with 70mm stem to be a good fit.

Just updated my frame to a Blur TRc, have to admit I was a little shocked at the initial price and if it wasnt for the fact I could swap 95% of my existing components across I would NOT have purchased it.
To make matters worst I could only get 500GBP for my 9 month old ASR-5 frame, so for best value my next purchase will be a nearly new second hand complete bike.

    My Santa Cruz TRc frame…

JPcapel – Did some climbing (big hills in HK) and some light XC stuff yesterday (video on my YouTube channel) and I have to say, for hauling a 90kg guy like me around it does feel quicker than my old ally ASR-5.
For the XC I had my Talas set down to 110 for most of it as it wasn’t that technical, planning to do some more tricky Trail/AM stuff next weekend…wife permitting.

JPcapel – Original had a large ASR-5 Alloy frame which was just a little too big, so decided to get a medium carbon as I liked the Yeti so much, however, no mediums were available and I saw the TRc frame in the shop so thought, why not, as most of the components could cross over!
Currently running most of the components from the Yeti (XT groupset/Mavic Crossmax STs) and it comes in around 11kg.
Observations based on a couple of hours of single track today, its quick, a little too quick as I kept miss-judging my entry speed into corners. It also seems to climb better than the Yeti although with the light frame I am struggling to keep the nose down, BB height is not an issue based on the previous frame although some people seem to think this is an issue. Out on a more demanding ride tomorrow so should get a better idea on the differences.

I like how the control room is setup so that they can use a floor mounted projector, does that room not have a ceiling?

Superficial – I had a large frame and it was just too big for me, I’m 5’9″ with 30 inch legs so it was always tight. Was going to get a Medium frame after a little windfall but saw the Blur TRc frame and thought, why not and it helped that all the components went straight across bar half the headset.
Busted my ribs so not had a real ride on the TRc yet, but the short 1 hour after build test ride felt good barring the agony, she is noticably stiffer and lighter than the ASR-5 though I should be able to get a real idea if its a step up or down in another week or so when recovered.

Had my Alloy ASR-5 for around 9 months now and it is one of the best bikes I have ever owned, fast uphill and downhill though it can be a little unforgiving on the more gnarly trails if you do not ride with 100% confidence. Just upgraded to a Blur TRc though I still have the frame, just not in the mood to sell it (note: wife has other opinions on this).

Second the Blur TRc (just got one) though you would have to lose or modify your fork as I am sure they are covered only up to 140mm forks.
