The 1st series is a little underrated, Brian Blessed to full affect (the length and girth of my rod is known only to the Queen….and a THOUSAND TURKISH WHORES!!!),Peter Cook in the first episode and Miriam Margolyes as the Spanish Infanta with the great Jim Broadbent as her interpreter (Don Speekingleesh ).
However, I think series 2 has the best episodes, only beaten by the final episode of series 4.

Any disposable income goes into the savings account, crazy concept I know but its nice to have a nest egg for mortgage overpayments, spur of the moment vacations etc.

I know there is a big MTB scene in Chiang Mai and the guys there don’t seem to have any problems (although not much use to you down south), though if you plan ahead I CRC should deliver to Thailand.
Will ask some of the guys here in HK that ride there a lot to see if they can help and get back to this thread.

On a salary like that you could buy a house or flat surely?
Rule of thumb I live by is 30% Rent/Mortgage, 30% bills and food, 25% save and the rest spunk against the wall.

Wednesday, riding a some foresty singletrack when I suddenly came to a complete stop and went straight over the handlebars.
Got away with some bruised ribs, couldn’t figure out what stopped me either?

Snakes dropping into your path at CMW are very common, happened to me a couple of time and I have never yet been cool enough to just bunny hop over them.

Used to always have a bell on my bike but within a year of moving to HK I gave up as the hikers here just don’t seem to respond to them either because they are just not paying attention or have sort of stereo system rigged up to their rucksack (honest!).
I found that simply shouting excuse me or the Cantonese equivalent is much more affective although a little exhaustive.

The swimming pool at the Marina Bay sands is for guest only (spent my honeymoon there) but worth a visit, there is also a big park across the road now which is pleasant to stroll around if its not too hot.

    RE Copeland and Breivik
So your saying both should have been arrested prior to their crimes by some sort of ‘thought’ police, possibly then have to spend some time in ‘re-education camps’ to ensure that they became model citizens?
I dont mean to make light of their actions but I dont understand how you can prevent these type of crimes without indiscriminately arresting and holding people for crimes they have yet to, or may possibly never commit.
There have been enough people wrongly convicted of crimes they have not done (but the crimes have occurred) based on their religion, beliefs or even skin color.

People have a right to their opinion and can express them as the law allows, when they break the law they then will get dealt with as the law sees fit. If the law is unable to reflect the will of the people then it can be changed in our democratic society to reflect the wishes of the majority.
When we start to label people criminal for their beliefs, which they hold within the law, and start to act outside the law to counter these we start to go down a very slippery road.

I think the English Disco Lovers campaign hits the right note, anyway these far right nutters should be exposed to the sunlight where there ideology can be seen by all for what it is, let them march.

    Just my two cents worth.

Guess I have not been away long enough or I go back too much (once a year) as I don’t miss anything apart from family and friends?

Actually liked Attack of the Clones (well apart from the roman theatre bit near the end) so I base my level of expectation very low, even I shouldn’t be disappointed.

I say we need a Bobba Fett movie in between the planned 3 sequels, that would be far better than a standalone Yoda film (plus Yoda is not Yoda when done in CG).

Only allowed one bike so try to get one that can do all the types of riding I enjoy.
Currently my Yeti SB66c fits the bill, with XT build, 160mm Floats and KS Lev dropper, about 3500 GBP in total though I got half of that back selling my previous bike.

Very lucky to have a lot of mountains nearby (sadly not Alps big though) and some OK singletrack, this trail starts about 5 minutes ride from my apartment and ends up overlooking the northern tip of Lantau, in the background is Victoria harbour, Kowloon on the left and Hong Kong on the right (Disneyland is right behind my head).

This is a little short section of the trail back to my home…

This is from the top down (yes, not Steve Peat but those steps are steep, honest!).

Aaagh, can never get the video links right.

It’s like NK are playing a game of poker and, without a decent hand or method, are just trying to bluff their way to the end (no poker player so don’t know the exact terms).

Happy with my LEV, would like a Reverb Stealth but I dont have the bike to support it.
The LEV is great for solving the cable routing problem where cable movement rubs the carbon surface (1st world problem I know) and can sometimes stick out and get rubbed raw by the rear tire, I opted for a 150mm version and it been reliable so far, worth spending the money for reliability.

I have had 3 cracked ribs over the last 2 years, generally for me its about 4 weeks of pain/discomfort then a couple of weeks of slight pain but able to ride.
If you feel that you are having problems breathing then I would recommend visiting the doctor, otherwise just rest as there is not much else you can do.

Had my mum over this week so was just doing tourist stuff with her until she got on a plane Sunday morning, then put a new shock on the bike and attempted to try my hand at tuning it, not 100% sure I am there yet……

I didn’t die going down some steep steps and a few rock gardens so I may be near to getting it right!

Cheers, had a little run out this weekend and seem to have it in a ‘sweet spot’ at the mo which doesn’t buck me off when riding over rocks/stairs but still keeps the back stiff enough to not affect climbing.
Guess i need to try different types of terrain to fully get it right.
