Being married to a local and working amongst them I have to say there is a very high level of animosity for the mainlanders who, to be fair, don’t really help themselves with their behaviour when in Hong Kong.
Hong Kong people just don’t see themselves as Chinese, and I think the recent change of them now being the poor relations over the recent 8-10 years has hit them hard.
There are multiple other issues at play as well, probably better written above than I can manage, including the ridiculous property market, which need to be addressed.
Near my office yesterday, expecting more of the same today:

Bit of a poor pic but that is looking down to roughly in front of the government buildings in Admiralty.

Was a bit weird going to work this morning with roads closed, barricades up and riot police hovering around (I work in the middle of the business district). Will post up some pics when I get off the tablet, also, there seems to be a mix of feedback from local friends and family, strange and interesting times indeed.

Using a Garmin Fenix2 at the moment, great watch but just too many options to use so unless you skydive, sky, run, snowboard, ride, go hunting, need to know the tide and go trail running don’t buy!
Go for a Garmin 210 which has just been updated by a new model (the 220), it does the job well and can be bought with a HRM on CRC for a competitive price.

Not heard of that before but have you transferred the video to the hard drive of your PC and then imported it to iMovie?

I find it hard to believe that wheel size has had a huge impact on bike sales.

The opposite for me, most of the people I know have rushed out to embrace the new wheel sizes, the trails are awash with Mach6’s, Troys, Bronsons and Nomads around my way and you never see a 26″ HT around, they are all 29ers.
However, feedback I get from the bikes shops around Hong Kong is that MTB sales are flat or down over the last couple of years as its mostly the same people buying MTB’s (a lot tend to upgrade yearly here).

I think you’ll find that they are currently testing a 650b replacement for the 303 as well.

Never understood the hate for Quantum of Solace, great action scenes, a continuation of the previous story line, a relevant plot and believable villain(s).
Far better than the overblown Skyfall.

I thought Giant were moving away from OD2 on their new models, the new Reign and Trances for example?
If your after existing models, then you could possibly get a bearing kit to enable standard forks/stems etc to be fitted.

Very lightweight, the mixture of carbon, titanium and carbon wetted my middle aged desire for ‘bike stuff’.
On any ride over one hour it appears to be designed to get you ready for a life time sentence in a Turkish prison.

I thought it was a good pop-corn movie which did at least try to stay close to the original, I mean its a Godzilla movie, there not much more you can add to the story line than change the protagonists.

thought man of steel was utter bobbins but lots of people like it

I actually felt really old watching this, great first bit with Kevin Costner but once the fighting started I really struggled to keep up with it.

Incidentally Njee20s Google street view is a little out of date, next to the grocery store in that image is now a rather high end Specialized store (which is part of the Bullbike group, the main shop being on the corner, 1st floor).

Haha, the Kowloon address is the same as a bike shop called Bullbike, I know they are legit as I was there on Monday buying stuff!
Unless the staff there are running a business on the side I would avoid this with extreme caution, I will also send an email to Bullbike to let them know about this, after all it may all be above board, no matter how unlikely.

Bikes tend to be 30-40% cheaper here due to a number of reasons, mostly tax related (rather, a lack of any taxes).
If it helps, I’ve never heard of them.

Is this presumed guilty argument also going to be applicable in divorce and paternity cases, or does Boris only want it in areas that will not affect himself?

Some of these sub 30lb Enduro bikes look like they’d break on seeing the Alps

I don’t ride the Alps but a strong lightweight frame is useful when riding in Hong Kong.
I wouldnt want to haul around a heavy bike when I typically have 400-800 mtrs of steep climbing in temperatures of 30 plus, with humidity in the 80/90s, on my local trails.

Thought 30lbs or below was about the standard weight to aim for, but if your happy with it thats all that matters.

Not really a weight weenie but happy how mine came out, though as with all these things probably better, and cheaper, to simply loose weight.

Got both the new MET Parachute and the IXS Trail (also owned a Super and 661 recon)and cant complain with any of them, as already said go and try some on as the fit does differ and go with whatever suits…and looks cool.
One small issue I had with the Bell Super was I lost a viser bolt and could not get a replacement, it is a small issue but very irritating at the time.

Its very easy to see if a political person or party has had a negative or positive affect on the people they govern by just seeing how people vote…with their feet.
In the case of Castro, I think he has had a great positive affect on Cuba but judging by the number of people fleeing every year, the rules designed to make it harder for people to leave and the number of people living in the west who tell you how good it is but don’t seem to want to commit to living there, I would say that the cons outnumber the pros as far as Fidels rule is concerned.

Just watched this last night for the first time in 10 years or so, forgot how good it was as a standalone piece of film (the sequels do nothing for me).
Is it me or do time travel films age well?

Been a while since I have been there but not much going on and although transportation is good into the city itself by the time you get out of the airport and then plan to get back in it may not be worth it, especially if with infants.
Although a reasonably modern airport I would suggest maybe booking a local hotel room to rest up and get cleaned up for the next leg of your journey, a lot of hotels do half day deals.

Lived and worked there over many years, great city for culture, art, food and entertainment (also lived & worked in New York and now in Hong Kong), as with any major international city you need to earn reasonable money to have a reasonable life there.

I personally think you have to be young and professional (20’s/early 30’s)to get the most out of it.
