Good to see this hasn’t gone the usual route of extreme Googling for facts and people calling each other racist while claiming not to read each others posts.

I see this being close, the referendum that is but back in the UK from Thursday for a week so would be good to get the feel for what people are thinking.

Add to this the Chinese don’t so political correctness, they aren’t quite as racist as the Japanese but not far off.

Correct, but what do i know I only have a Chinese wife and associated family to back up my experience, they are mostly incredibly racist in an unknowing way.

The joke doing the rounds here is the lady in the ad will get a shock when she finds out that something has shrunk in the wash!

    Some craking pics there.

On Thursday this middle aged man go shown how to jump after a TMS AM session by one of the local Loose Riders

Then on Sunday a hot and humid 44km XC ride, despite the massive numbers of Golden Orb spiders setting up shop everywhere it was not too bad a ride.
Hong Kong Airport and the new Zuhai/Macua bridge being built in the background

Go 400 metres up though and you were in the clouds and a pleasant breeze.

I’ve heard the language can be difficult.

Not that difficult compared to the other ‘tonal’ languages found nearby, a simple phrase book should see you OK and most Japanese I found love to have a chance to practice their English, in the major towns and cities that is.

I thought Hakone was lovely, very traditional onsens (hot springs) if your into that kind of thing.
If you can get across to the Fujimi Panarama bike park its worth a crack, the hire bikes there are not too bad.
Yoyogi park in Tokyo is always worth a walk around on a Sunday for taking in the locals dressed up.
Japan is an amazing country, been to a few places around Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto and on Okinawa but generally its all good and for getting around the train system is excellent.

Took a newbie out for a spin up Lantua’s steep trails. not sure he will be back in a rush and it didn’t help that I made him ride the bouncier bike.

Cheers all. To complicate matters it looks like I may not be able to bring the bike now so I will stick to Swinley and the local bike hire and save everywhere else for another trip.
At least I will be able to get 3-4 mornings during the week of riding before I’m dragged around shops and relatives homes!

I save the money, pay by credit card then promptly pay that off and claim the air miles.
If its really expensive, pay half cash and the other by credit card, my LBS understands that sometimes a gentleman may need to keep some secrets from the wife!

You can get monitors with VGA ports only, I would have thought that these input connectors were replaced by DVI-I ports able to support both digital and analogue (i.e. VGA) inputs years ago?

Despite being in Hk I live out by the airport on Lantau Island, this is about 30 minutes riding/hike a biking from my apartment

For another 45 minutes and 350mtr of climbing I can get to the Chi Ma Wan peninsula for some excellent trail riding.

For DH shuttle fun or some good AM riding, its all of 30 minutes in a van to Tai Mo Shan country park.

Its also a 2.5 hour flight to Chiang Mai or Taiwan, so not too bad.

So, cracked my 3rd set of LB rims today in 6 or 7 months, managed to get the last set replaced under warranty but now ending my carbon experiment and sticking with alloy for the time being.

I’m a 90kg rider who likes to ride aggressively and my local trails where I ride (HK plus regular Chiang Mai trips) tend to be rock strewn affairs, it appears these are not good combinations?
Its a pity as I liked the ability to run lower pressure and that stiff feeling you get which I found gave me confidence on line selection when riding through rock gardens.

On my 2nd set of XT M800’s now due to warranty issues on my SB5c, would not recommend them.
It seems that every 50km or so you have to bleed the XT’s or eventually the lever develops a fault where you get an on/off bit point with zero modulation or the caliper simply seizes up.
Have Guide RSC’s on my 601 and they have been good so far bar a user issue when on a recent bike trip.
Currently into around 500km of riding on each, if I had the money I would go Guide RSC for both bikes.

Once you get past the diplomacy, the political correctness and sycophantism and get down to the real feelings, I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone from anywhere with anything good to say about Britain in the last 25 years

I cant say I have your experience and I have traveled and lived (and currently do live outside the UK) in a few places, what did you do to these people to get this negative feedback?

    Terrific pictures there.

Will cheat a little, this was last Wednesday not the weekend, really nice day for going for a sneaky spin despite the presence of spiders and a rather large Chinese Cobra (the joys of working form home). Mild sunny weather (in the late 20’s) with a nice breeze, could even almost make out the ICC and IFC building on Hong Kong island in the background.

Saturday was a chance to try a cheeky trail from one of the highest points in HK, all 950mtrs up and in this case in the cloud cover. Lovely 30 minutes of descending though which I didn’t catch on camera as it was too much fun….

Slightly different approach in HK where on a popular FB Bike classified page people will openly proclaim if the item can be bought elsewhere and even provide where to get these items on occasion.
Prospective buyers will often be asked for the item to be held in the comments section and then not follow up leading to the thread being constitutionally updated with either ‘on hold’ or ‘still available’.

They all seem to take people coming back from the dead calmly enough.
Also, I cant help think that Vary’s little birds may be a little more reliable than it seems and not easily bought off?

Summer is here, 31 degrees and humidity in the high 80’s means more reliance on shuttles to get up mountains.
Tai Mo Shan shuttles on Saturday, faffing around up and down.

From what I can see of the FB feeds of my Philipinno friends in Hong Kong is they love the guy, mind you they all live here and and not there.
The Philippines is a strange place, a vibrant English speaking nation, rich in resources yet basically a basket case providing cheap labour to HK, Singapore and the middle east.
