I recently confessed the truth and we’re done. Ironically I lied as I was afraid to lose her. Now what I hate most is how much I’ve hurt her

What a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive, however it all seems a little trivial to break up an 8 month relationship?

    Oh, and…..

Show them respect, treat them with dignity, welcome them as you would hope to be welcomed and yes, you’ll still get the odd whack job, but you’ll have a whole lot more people on your side

The odd whack job, well then if its only the odd one I think we would all be cool with that.

I suspect not taking a chance and actually making efforts to have an efficient and fair vetting procedure would properly be a better options, plus an effective way to remove those not deemed to be refugees would make get even more people on your side.

There are a couple of issues here, one is the perception on the number of actual immigrants/refugees entering Europe and also that that those who are not real refugees are somehow circumventing the law and staying and not being deported.
I suspect the 2nd issue is something that needs to be remedied for the first to be removed as a concern.

Sadly politics needs this problem not to be solved as the left and right feed of it.

Middle aged men at the wheel of a people carrier on the motorway….you can almost smell their anger and frustration at the situation.

The notion that you can somehow protect all these public spaces from a nutcase in a runaway articulated lorry is, quite frankly, absurd

You can try, bollards and barriers built into the design of the area would help. To simply accept huge risk to public safety without trying to minimise it would itself be absurd.

23 and living for the weekend, hardly shocking, I’m sure most of us were like that and it most cases it also involved recreational drugs on top of the booze.
He has a mortgage and is debt free, in the next few years he will probably have a few relationships, meet new friends and change his social circle as he gets to 30 and indeed existing friends drop by the wayside. Isn’t that what most people do?

I’m sure he actually said “Brian First, this is for Brian”

Maybe, but why “Death to trousers”?

I’m sensing some kind of Scottish Nationalism.

    Location: Hong Kong
    Winter: Apparently

Based on the locals are wearing we are in the middle of a permafrost, otherwise its usually a pleasant 20 plus degrees or so, or riding season as we call it.

    We should still help refugees

Id be struggling to think of anyone against helping refugees, it just appears that Merkals open door policy exacerbated the situation and allowed a good deed to be taken advantage off.
It also didn’t help that when she had realised what she had done she then tried to foist them on neighbouring countries!
Process the refugees near the borders of Syria, then allocate them to safe host countries.
You now have a lot of refugees mixed in with more good old fashioned economic migrants taking advantage of the situation, living in subpar accommodation and now being viewed very suspiciously by the local population, something that will lead to more of these attacks as everyone becomes more disillusioned with the status quo.
Its a horrible vicious circle with frankly no easy fix.

Puts rose tinted glasses on and looks nostalgically back to the IRA years in so much as at least they usually gave a warning and had a political leaning that was not all ‘death to the infidel’.

My uncle used to say “you either buy a 10 pound watch or a 10,000 pound watch, there is no in-between”.

Interestingly, he never owned a watch.

Franz Ferdinand all over again. Although I desperately hope not

That 2nd album was bad but not that bad.

Turkey is on the cusp of becoming a hardline theocracy in the shape of Iran, we have already seen a failed coup to try to arrest that (ala Egypt recently), its going to get worse, they have a lot of capable military and are close to Europe.

And we thought 2016 was bad.

That’s what I thought after I got old enough to start being fussy about the gifts.

Saw this Saturday night at a local IMAX cinema, thoroughly enjoyed it, possibly up there after Empire and maybe slightly ahead of A New Hope.
I think they did a good job of giving us something new but including enough references to ensure that you knew it was part of the Star Wars cannon.
CGI Tarkin and Leia wasn’t an issue to me either but the most jarring bit I found was Vadars Schwarzeneggers throw away choking line, bit strange really.
Highlights, Vadar and a corridor full of rebels, seeing some in-house Empire politics (bit like real work) and the space battle above Scarif.
    Good rollicking fun.

Just got mine, and at 5’9″ I opted for a Medium and it seems spot on for me. As noted above I have short legs and arms (30″ inseam) so that may make a difference.
    50km in and loving it.

Quantum of Solace is one of the best Bond films ever made, its relevant (water supply), has great action scenes right from the get-go, nice locations and generally runs along at a good pace.
Much better that the two overblown films that followed.

Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, good film bar the stupid amphitheatre bit at the end.

Its a tadge rocky and XC for my liking but still a nice experience.
