was considering just locking bike on roof and sleeping in car.
what are you considering sleeping for? It’s a 24 hour bike race, i.e. you ride your bike not sleep

The night before. arrive Friday so already there on Saturday. if I pitch a tent to sleep in for Friday night may as well leave pitched.

having said that might to inviting at 3am 🙂

    cool.
    thanks for the replies.
Do you just come off track at the start/finish line and go back to your tent?/car and fettle food and drink for the next lap and rejoin?
As above do you bother with tent. was considering just locking bike on roof and sleeping in car.

    superb!
    thanks for the replies.
I didn’t think it would cause too much of a problem. Especially as i’m only ten & half stone.

PUKY to the best balance bike. you can get a one with a brake or without.
Also I has a very low step through and very low centre of gravity.

My little one has the smallest one without a brake. he uses his feet to stop.

    Cool. thanks for the replies.
I need to shorten the hoses so a bleed will be done then.
I haven’t ridden the bike with them on but it does seem despite the long pull their are proper one figure jobs where as the elixirs still needed two. so as said probably just a case of getting used to them from crappy avid.

While I’m on and as its been mentioned. The free stroke adjustment screw?
it was fully screwed in from the box.
Do I unscrew it to get the bite point sooner?
    How far does it unscrew?

Rode one of my favourite stretches of trail anywhere yesterday – the descent over the moors to Edmundbyers. Fixed grin the whole way.

know that descent, tis mint. Been meaning to getover there to do the a ride from Ebyer, blanchland, slaley forest, hexham common etc.
reckon it will be nicely dryed out. ages since i’ve done it n’all

    aye brand new.
i wonder if the number 57 is sealed bearings and the 57-B is the OEM loose bearing crap type.

It does look like the cup is a serperate piece to the actual frame.
Eg, the material in the headtube is rough until right at the very top just under the bearing race there is a ring of shiney machined metal.

Seems to fit totally flush within the head tube so no where to jam a rod and bash out other than on the backside of the bearing race it’s self.

I’ve have a couple of phone style pics but no idea how to upload from computer?

so opened it up last night expecting to find a sealed cartridge bearing with numbers printed on the side helping me choose a likely replacement.

to my suprise i discovered an open loose bearing type!!
Also the surface within the frame that the bearing move on are pitted.

Surely this most be a semi intergrated headset and i sure be able to replace the cups, as if not the frame is finished?

Looks like a trip to a bike shop.

i hate the mine field that has been created in headset.
Convential press/Bash in cups makes more sense.

specialized stumpjumper comp 2011 bought it a year ago but it has 26 wheels.

My CX bike is my 29er.
Infact i class 29ers as flat barred CX bikes.

i have two mountain bikes but have found that my CX is my pride and joy.
Can be a road bike for sportives aswell as an “old school” MTB that can do bridleways etc.
Superb for my commuting on the derwent walk.

i also remember nodrog2 on his planet X Cx going around chopwell woods in the dark just as quick as everyone else on mountain bikes.

    what bigG said.

yet to take it in the woods but reckon this could be the year

i have the 2010 version. I propper love it. i use it to commute, dismantled railway line rides, rides on quiet country roads and i’ve done sportives on it.
I have two mountain bikes and no road bike, but i find the CX Jake snake so versitle i just put racing tires on and it becomes a road bike. but it can still fit big tires for winter and offroad.
I replaced the cantis with mini V brakes and inline barrel tensioners, awesome upgrade.

top right section of this pictures show the brake mounted to the bar.

where the clamp meets the body of the brake it’s shaped and fits nicely.
On mine if i get the bottom section to fit the top section doesnt line up and leaves about a 3mm gap.
it’s like the clamps too small or the bars too big.
But, i have 2 clamps, both do the same and 2 bars. none seem to fit like what the do in the picture, unless the bar isnt there.

yeah i ordered a kona cadabra.

Ive done ae 2 or 3 times and really enjoyed it. Done gt 10’s of time and enjoy it more.
The only stane I’ve not been to is glentrool but that’s more a family place anyhoo.
The only stane I’ve not fully enjoyed was Dalbeattie but this was 2008 and the day before we had done kirroughtree, also I have heard there is a load of new stuff at Dalbeattie since 08.

What about doing two in one day?? Mabie Dalbeattie and ae are all close together

Chopwell is really good fun thought you need to know your way round. Think most people do the power line once as part of a loop.

I’ve just rediscovered chopwell, used to do it on a Tuesday night many years ago. I’d forgotten how fun it is zipping down the single track that has a natural feel to it.
Powerline is also a lot of fun.

Been out in Chopwell woods last night and on saturday. both in the rain.
    was good fun.
completly caked in mud. cleaning after is a git.

as said earlier, and is why i like forests, wind is the total nightmare.

    Kenda Nevegals

I always used high rollers and just put up with them in the mud.

Then i bought a Giant that came with Kenda nevegals.
I find them excellent in all conditions.

arr, thanks for that. i didnt realize the stumpjumper was now 140. i remember it being 125.
wondered why specialized jumped from the 120 camber to the 160 enduro.
obvious now, why would they have a 120 camber and a 125 SJ’er derrr

good point that i had forgot.
few years ago changed from 1.9s to 2.35 and theres quite a diffence when using a bit more of the tire as suspension.

current hard tail as got mavic 717xc so 2.1 limit but if i got the new full sus and put big tires on reckon that would be enough difference for me.

there was a huge difference between the 150 FS and 100 HT that why i had the ‘big bike’ though was heavy.

    stewart4444

just not sure if it worth buying a new bike that is similar to the HT in the front travel department anyhoo.
Reckon though 4 inches at the back is gonna feel alot different to none.

    yes it’s all good.
i like the variation between the old 90’s black route bits that are all rooty then the new swoopy stuff is super fun.
    it’s pretty sweet ;o)

    i agree.
two days processing but then the order shows up at your door.

nothing really bad, but just not quite as sharp as they used to be.

not sure if that would be my cup of tea. (eg boggy soggy hike a bike, you dont get that in a trail centre.)
but it looks ace views etc and was fun to read.

Tyre problem!! Think i defo stick to tubes.
can just imagine steve cursing you as he stomped back up the hill ;o)
