Thanks for pics RD, that looks pretty good that, I expected it to look flappier (official terminology)

For the money, I’d spend a little more on a Deuter Race Air EXP.

I just need a bit more visibility not a new bag 🙁 Although it does look nice!!!

Well done lads, I get pretty bored with a lot of biking vids, but that was mega, looks like you had a right laugh. Kept me wanting to watch. Sneaky voyeur girl shot was a nice touch too 🙂

    mmmm reliability issues eh?
My Osprey is the Viper 13, so a little smaller, but would be good to know your experiences…..pics would be good too if its not a massive headache.

Yeah that might be a solution.
I might take the backpack to the shop and sneak a fitment and see what I think 🙂

Hey thanks for that mate, it may well be worth a try. It was broad daylight this morning but I still had all manner of static and flashing lights front and back, just to give me a little more chance of getting to work in one piece.

Out of interest what style of Hump did you plumb for. Undecided on super reflective white or in your face flouro red.

aha that sounds like some first hand experience there.
The Osprey I have is a Viper 13, missed that bit out and I think its smaller than the Raptor so it looks like the Hump is not for me 🙁

Oh well will have to stick more lights on my back instead.

    Thanks for your help.

Definitely something to think about, its often best to leave it to the pro’s.

Thank you TJ, I’ll look into that. I do have the bore cap tool so I’ll give it a go.

Thanks everyone. I’ll try the brake fluid / silicone spray first and see how it performs.
Is it best to strip or just remove the pads and pump the lever to push the pistons out a LITTLE, then lube that way.

    Stevo210

If I could get them turned round quickly I think I would. Need the push iron for work so can’t do without it for too long.
Think I’ll have a go at the strip option…as long as I don’t require any specialist tools 🙂
Anyone have a link to the rubber grease mentioned?
    Cheers

Ok what’s the solution on the sticky piston? The brakes are only a few months old.

    Stevo210
    Free Member

Yeah when I align them as the video, the pistons are even and disc doesnt flinch when the pads contact evenly from both sides.
Thats why Im so confused that after a while the pistons push unevenly and cause the drop in performance.

Thats why Im wondering what the hecks up!

Thanks TJ, but I should have said I’ve followed the guide from day one and it still does it. All pistons are moving ok.

Ive always fancied a set and unlike others I think they look great. And i like the look of the Orange skip (5) too !!!

I emailed Crank Brothers and asked what changes/improvements had been made to the new wheels for 2011, this was the respons

“The improvements are quite dramatic. The new 2012 wheels have a 30%
stronger rim, reinforced at both the valve hole and the weld seam. The hubs are 10 times stronger due to all new internal axles, bearings and freehub body, incorporating a wire spring and new oversized pawls. We tested the freehub against our previous version and it proved to be 10 times stronger in the pawl area (our biggest issue in the past) and is now triple sealed, making it virtually powerwash proof! The freehub spacing has also been changed to accommodate the new 10 speed drivetrains and is compatible with ALL cassettes sold today.”

Now if thats not enough to put anyone off the older version that are now been sold off cheap I dont know what is.

Hi All, yeah it was a good ride last night despite the weather, the route detour turned up some interesting little drops that I’m sure we’ll be linking in to our regular routes.
As Tom said really nice to meet new faces (and 2 surprise old ones for me!) its a small world!.
Definitely will arrange another ride soon.

    (Nathan, a surprise old one 🙂 )

Stevo210 sounds like the problems i’ve had with KMC requiring replacing in less than a yr without what i’d class harsh condtions.

I checked with the chain measuring thingy and realised it was at 1.0mm which suprised me somewhat with the timescale.
So I bought another chain hoping that my cassette (Srampg990) wasn’t too late to be saved. This was also fitted new in January. I tried fitting the new SL chain last night and low and behold it was skipping its little teeth off. Old chain is now back on.
If I had checked it earlier when the wear was enough to merit replacing it would have only been 4-5 months old.
My cars cheaper to run….rant over!!

I’m having to replace a KNC SL chain after only fitting it in January. I know we’ve had some good winter slop and not much sunny riding but surely that’s not a huge time is it?
The KMC SL is about £35 so it ain’t cheap. Be interested to see which chain has some longevity with it.

Not sure if I know that one by name but may have ridden it.

Should be a good ride which ever route we take. See you all tomorrow night!

For those who may be interested I dug out some photos of the areas we will be riding. Cows/Sheep come as standard, other routes include grumpy Bulls 🙁

See everyone on Wednesday for a 6:30 depart 🙂

On my cannondale (not a rush), the outer us anchored right at the top of the down-tube then runs from there all the way to the deraileur with the inner only. ie there is only 300mm of outer from the shifter to the top of downtube. Surely your’s is like that?

Hi there, my rush Carbon is exactly as described.

If you need some pics just let me know.

Ive used Dr Cannondale more than once, a great parts source, just a bit steep on the postage 🙂

Right ok, I must have mis read that bit.
Well Im up for that. Its difficult to choose a route when theres loads of little cool routes that can be joined up to make bigger ones.

I like the river crossings before the climb up to the slabs, got my feet very wet when I misjudged it last week, its a fair old climb up too the standedge 🙂

That’s funny you two just described the same route basically but in totally different ways. One with local trail slang and the other with official road names.
I reckon both of them are good 🙂

Might be a fair distance though depending on skill and staminer level of different riders.

PPS definitely a bring your lights, bigger the better.

I like the route that runs from the standege cutting across the moors on the Pennine Way and fork down the moorland on to the fast descent track which brings you out at the Hey Green Hotel. Very rutted and technical, in the dark anyway!
It’s a climb to get up there to start with though, maybe to boggy for some too 🙂

Here’s one up at Gisburn, Im putting my poor performance down to a belly full of home brew from the lovely Dog and Partridge the night before 🙂
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNdb8tLcdGA
    Result = sprained wrist
Any advice on how to get a YouTube vid to appear rather than a link would be appreciated 🙂

haha yeah it was the straightening up caused by me ramming the brakes on when I realised I should have been leaning and turning more, it was a lot tighter than I had planned for.

Yeah Im counting myself lucky…..must concentrate more!!!!

I think the Gold bling may have glinted some sunlight back up into my eyes 🙂

Guy behind, thought “this guy knows the way I’ll tuck in behind him”!!!

Yeah absolutely, a massive thanks to all the hard work that the volunteers put in every year to make the event possible and make sure it runs super smooth.

After reviewing a bit of the video footage I took I found this beauty (not that I’d forgotten it).
How to misjudge the tightness of a corner with style.
